If you're interested in day trips from the Anaheim area, most of the Los Angeles area is within an easy drive of Anaheim.  Attractions that are nearby include:

Knotts Berry Farm:  This has a theme park, plus also has a good restaurants, Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant and a T.G.I.Friday's, plus a few stores. Also available is Knott's Soak City, a water park open during the summer, and a true recreation of Independence Hall

Medieval Times:  This is a dinner show restaurant for the entire family.  The crowd is assigned their favorite knight to cheer for.  The show includes "knights on horses", princesses, and a full course dinner - one eats with their hands - per Medieval Times traditions.

 

Pirates Dinner Adventure: Located next to Medieval Times, this Dinner show is themed to the Pirates theme, with a very large stage with million of gallons of water as the main attraction

 Newport Beach Fashion Island - This is a trendy shopping area in the Newport Beach area with several restaurants such as the Cheesecake Factory.  At Christmas, Newport Beach has one of the tallest decorated Christmas trees in America.

 Huntington Beach - This is a family friendly beach.  There are several fire rings to cook hot dogs and roast marshmallows.  In summer come early to claim one as they are quite popular. Main Street offers a lot of Restaurants, Bars and Shops. 

 Laguna Beach is within driving distance and is good for restaurants and shops plus good views of the ocean.  Beachhouse is a restaurant to have lunch or a sunset dinner.

Temecula Wine Country - One can drive from Anaheim to Wine Country in Temecula and go wine tasting.

 SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park are also within driving distance to Anaheim. (about 1 to 2 hours).

 San Diego also has a lot of Indian Casinos, Pala and Harrah's are the best known in the Northern San Diego area. Pechanga is also close, in Temecula, which is is southern Riverside County.
