To surf the Internet at any public Internet point in Italy, a valid ID ( like passport or drivers'  license) is required; your identification will be photocopied on site by the owner of the internet point.  This is a an anti-terrorism measure, passed by the Italian government in 2005 and also applies to public fax use.
