Just returned from the Melia with my husband and 2 teenagers. This was our 5th time to the caribeean and our 3rd in Cuba. What can I say, well the food is absolutely horrible and I am not a fussy eater. I was careful and still got sick. I had to spend an entire day sleeping from being so dehydrated. Others we spoke to got sick as well. Don't go during the rainny season or you will have to resort to staying in your room from dinner time on or you will be eaten alive by mosquitos. Also, the rainny season is considered not busy season and because of this the food choices are greatly lacking. As for cats, yes they are everywhere but I have seen them in other resorts as well. As long as they don't jump on me when I'm eating, I don't mind them too much. The rooms were very clean and the staff nice. The beach is absolutely amazing!!! The nicest I've seen in Cuba so far. We love the caribbean beaches and that is the main reason we choose a resort, however, I would like to be able to eat and not feel hungry on my entire vacation.
To sum it up, if you are going for the beach, then go, you won't be disappointed but if the pool (with activities) and food are high on your priority list, don't go. There were very little activities and water sports. My son was disapointed about that. Bring lots of Immodium and Gravol and bug repellent and flashlights for at night as the crabs are crawling around the resort!
