“worst food ever”

Just returned from the Melia with my husband and 2 teenagers. This was our 5th time to the caribeean and our 3rd in Cuba. What can I say, well the food is absolutely horrible and I am not a fussy eater. I was careful and still got sick. I had to spend an entire day sleeping from being so dehydrated. Others we spoke to got sick as well. Don't go during the rainny season or you will have to resort to staying in your room from dinner time on or you will be eaten alive by mosquitos. Also, the rainny season is considered not busy season and because of this the food choices are greatly lacking. As for cats, yes they are everywhere but I have seen them in other resorts as well. As long as they don't jump on me when I'm eating, I don't mind them too much. The rooms were very clean and the staff nice. The beach is absolutely amazing!!! The nicest I've seen in Cuba so far. We love the caribbean beaches and that is the main reason we choose a resort, however, I would like to be able to eat and not feel hungry on my entire vacation.

To sum it up, if you are going for the beach, then go, you won't be disappointed but if the pool (with activities) and food are high on your priority list, don't go. There were very little activities and water sports. My son was disapointed about that. Bring lots of Immodium and Gravol and bug repellent and flashlights for at night as the crabs are crawling around the resort!

“Great Resort”

Had a wonderful week at Melia Cayo Santa Maria. The 90 minute ride to the resort went by quickly - thank heavens for the A/C on the bus. Weather was very warm & humid - and yes, the mosquitos were abundant.

However, the staff at the resort were exceptional. I was so impressed by how they remembered names, preferences, drinks, etc.

The resort was not busy, so had no problem with chairs by the pool or beach. The beach was wonderful - very clean, white sand. However a litlle deeper and more of a drop off than I expected. Not a problem for me, but with small children, something to think about.

The pools were beautiful, and really enjoyed the floaters provided. Lots of activities around the pool - fashion shows, synchro swimming, bikes - lots to keep you awake.

Again, staff made your day pass quickly with attentiveness, friendliness - and not just the bar and wait staff - I was very impressed with the pool staff, garden staff as well. Took the time to thank you for being there and any gifts you were able to give.

Food was okay - a little boring, but welcome to Cuba!!!

The bus trip back to the airport was a real eye opener - in broad daylight the towns we drove through were very poor and hard to accept after a week at a luxury resort.

Totally enjoyed the trip - dismayed at the nearby towns and living conditions!

“Look out for the Mozzies........”

A lovely hotel with beautiful beaches, but watch out for the Mozzies, take plenty of spray 100DET, rooms great, staff on the whole alright, although service can be slow.
Be prepared to be tied to resort complex, you're at the end of a 49 Km causeway, and there is nothing else there.
Food was dissappointing Chips & Sprouts for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
Take the 3 day trip to Havana it's fantastic, and a break from the Hotel / Mozzies.

“Wow! What A Great Vacation!”

anybody looking for a really nice resort, with a knockout beach.
great people and a great room. This is the place. My wife and I
just got back from a week @ Melia Santa Maria and WE WERE TREATED LIKE ROYALTY. The staff were very nice and baked a special cake for our anniversary dinner. The next day they invited us to another special dinner.

The food was very good in the buffet, especially breakfast. Fresh
omlettes and eggs cooked to order.

The Italian restaurant was very nice, try the fish or pasta. The Mediteranean was good as well, order the steak it was really nice.

The beach bar was nice for lunch as well the 24hr snack bar had
great meals for lunch as well. Try the tropical pizza, very good.

The rooms are large, we were on the second floor block 17 with an ocean view. I would recommend that. The pools are beautiful, and the grounds are lovely. Try the amazing spa, it's worth it.

If you wand a nice vacation to relax, and are looking for an amazing beach. I highly recommend this resort.

Tell Lasaro that Daniel say's hello!
