My fiancée and I, along with her parents, stayed at this hotel April 10-13.The purpose of our trip was to scout venues for our wedding. Despite a pleasant experience with friendly bell and front desk staff, Friday would entail the beginning of some major challenges.

Upon returning to the hotel on Friday evening we recognized a multitude of activity both inside and outside of the hotel. It was clear the restaurant and roof top bar were both very popular on the weekend. The problem is the music being played, particularly the sound of the bass, made it impossible for us to sleep. The noise did not subside until 2AM, essentially destroying any potential of a good night’s sleep.

Much to our chagrin, the unbearable noise levels would continue on Saturday evening and persist until after 3AM! My future mother-in-law called the front desk and complained about the intrusive noise. The front desk agent advised they could accommodate a room change, however this obviously was not a practical solution at that time of the morning.

That afternoon we inquired about utilizing the venue for a Friday evening rehearsal type event. We were advised someone would call us on our cell phone. We did not hear from him and therefore requested he meet with us when we returned to the hotel in the afternoon. He briefly spoke with us and was smug at best. He advised there is a 10K minimum for the roof top space during that time frame. To be honest, we would not spend ten dollars with him based on his poor and unaccommodating attitude. Later in the day we spotted him standing on the beach. We called him over and attempted to again converse about the possibility of having the event there. He appeared annoyed when we asked him to put a proposal together for us prior to our departure the next day (Sunday). We asked him to leave it for us and of course he did not. Based on his insulting attitude we were not surprised.

The most frustrating part of the experience was that there was absolutely no communication regarding the potential for noise disruption on either night. I do not have to guess if this was an accident. Every guest of that hotel should be made aware at check-in, or prior to booking, of the noise levels that persist into the wee hours of the morning. The hotel has obviously made a choice to be a night club on the weekends at the price of its unsuspecting hotel guests.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a great time. The staff was exceptional, the room was clean and had a great view of the sea. I was nervous about all of the "noise" in other reviews, but on our Wed. Thur. and Friday night stay we never heard a thing. This hotel is close to everything and a great starting off point for doing and seeing many of the main things that PR has to offer. The staff could not have been more helpful. The valets, restaurant and front desk were very attentive and the beach guy came with the chairs before we could pick out our spot on the beach. Great location, great room and great staff -- you can't ask for more when travelling.

my wife and i just returned from a fantastic 4 day vacation at the water club in san juan puerto rico. our rom was spotless and had a great view of the beach directly across the street. the front desk service was superb and we were able to check in over 2 hours early. virna of your desires once again went out of her way to make our stay special. my wife loved the chocolate covered strawberries awaiting us when we got to our room. bob the general manager has his wonderful staff all very professional, friendly and polite. william greeted us at the door like we were family not tourists. kevin who takes care of your every need on the beach is a very well spoken , intelligent guy who takes his job seriously and also goes out of his way to insure you have a stress free day at their beautiful beach. well as you can tell by my review we will be returning soon to the water club, are favorite hotel in san juan! thanks once again to bob and his staff for a fantastic stay!!!! jim and eddi maxwell

The San Juan Water and Beach Club, a boutique (read “small”) hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico attacks this rule “Big Time”!

I climbed the crumbling steps up to the small lobby and discovered problem number one: In an effort to be “hip”, I suppose, the public areas are lit in a strange blue hue. It does look cool, I admit, but you soon realize you can’t see a thing, especially if you’ve just come out of the bright tropical sunshine.

I groped my way to an elevator and stumbled on the miss-aligned entryway. “My friend has tripped on that twice,” a fellow passenger told me.

To this point, I admit, my complaints are rather trivial.

Here is how General Manager Bob Sassani really puts it to his guests: NOISE.

I’m talking chest-thumping, window-rattling, concrete-vibrating noise. As many as four nights a week, DJ “Tall Rick” sets up a frightening battery of tweeters, woofers and sub-woofers and fires off barrage after barrage of ear-splitting racket in the outdoor, rooftop disco.

This could be fun if you want to party until well past 2 AM each night; it is sheer Hell if you’d like to get any sleep!

Trust me, if you’re over thirty, you’re going to wanna take out DJ Tall Rick, GM Sassani and anyone else associated with this amateurish excuse for a hotel. I tried calling the night manager one morning after 2 AM to run up a white flag of surrender, but no one would speak to me. “Call back tomorrow,” desk clerk Cynthia instructed.

A resort condo a few blocks away is organizing legal action to put a lid on this rude neighbor, a place that is giving Puerto Rico tourism a black eye.

Water Club, take the racket inside, tone it down and . . . grow up!
