“Convenient pre-cruise stay”

Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino

We stayed here three nights precruise. Great location – close to the airport and close enough to the port. I always try to stay at Embassy Suites for short stays as I think they are pretty consistent in quality and I like the two room idea for quietness and space. In this particular case, since my husband is a smoker, I gave in and stayed in a smoking room. Be warned that the smoking rooms have no ventilation, no fan, no way of opening a window so they are pretty gross. My husband even said it was pretty bad.

I really liked having an Outback as the onsite restaurant. The food was prepared just as in the States complete with steamed veggies – something hard to find in the islands. Just a block and a half away is the main street with Burger King, Walgreens, and other fast food type restaurants.

A block and a half away is the beach. We weren’t there for the beach and just walked over to check it out. To me, it certainly wasn’t the beautiful Caribbean beach you might expect. The block between the main street and the beach was just full of trash – disgusting actually.

The free breakfast was just passable. The omelets were edible – that’s about all I can say about them. We didn’t partake in the free happy hour but each day saw pretty long lines of people waiting for their free drinks. We didn’t use the pool but it looked nice but small.

I would stay here again for a short stay but would never select this place as a land based vacation resort.

By the way, we hired a private driver for two days through Countryside Tours. This was worth every penny. We got to see so much of the real Puerto Rico plus the tourist sites of Arecibo, Ponce, and El Yunque. The Fajardo area has beautiful beaches and resorts and I would look into that area if I were to return to Puerto Rico for a land vacation.

“Family friendly”

Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino

Our stay was ok. At check in the staff was not as friendly as we expected. The made to order breakfast was good and also included in price. Our room was clean although there was a great big stain in the carpet under the dinette table (looked like coffee) we found some Skiddles Candies stuck to one of the bed sheets. We complained and Our resort fee was waved. The pool area was noisy the hotel is a few yards away from one of the airport runways. Overall not a bad experience. Don't know about staying here again.

“Great Hotel Near the Airport”

As many reviewers have written, this is a nice hotel near the airport. The pool is great for kids and the beach is a short walk from the hotel. The small casino was not crowded during the week and the breakfast buffet was above average.

Like most Embassy Suites, the rooms were clean and the staff was attentive.

Overall, a great place to stay for a day or two before leaving Puerto Rico.

On a side note, I've read some reviews about the expensive taxis to Old San Juan and recommending renting a car. This is a fine idea if you are going to tour part of the island, but if you are planning on only going to Old San Juan you can take the bus for $0.75 each way. It takes 45 minutes, but it is a straight shot.

“Nice stay at the Embassy Suites”

Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino

We just came home from a long weekend to Puerto Rico. We picked the Embassy Suites because of the short distance from the airport. The hotel was clean and neat and the extra room in the suite was great! The beach is a 2 minute walk from the hotel which we didn't mind at all. We stayed all day - the water was beautiful. The hotel is also walking distance from nice restaurants so we didn't feel like we needed a car during our short stay.

“Handy, Clean and Nice Big Rooms”

Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino

Jan 17, 2008

The hotel is literally right beside the airport landing strip and beside the freeway, yet you can't hear these noises from your room. The casino is located in the atrium and the noise from the live music filtered up to the rooms, but the great thing about the Embassy Suites is that you can close the door to your separate bedroom and you can't hear a thing.

I thought it was neat to sit at the very spacious and well conceived pool and literally watch the planes coming down. The pool's waterfall, for the most part filters out the plane noise. There were enough chaise lounges for everyone who came to the pool (and it was full) and you can get a massage and other spa services poolside.

The food at the Outback located in the hotel was terrific and the service that we received from the Embassy staff was great, especially the day manager, Bo.

Overall, great location with clean rooms, good service, good food , conveniently located by the airport and other good restaurants, blocks away from the beach and for sightseeing into Old San Juan. I understand the taxi fares from this area to be a little high to go to Old San Juan and would recommend renting a car for the $40 a day which would also allow you access to the Rain Forest and the Caves. Parking rates at the Embassy are $14 and $20 for self and valet parking, respectively.
