We stayed here three nights precruise. Great location – close to the airport and close enough to the port. I always try to stay at Embassy Suites for short stays as I think they are pretty consistent in quality and I like the two room idea for quietness and space. In this particular case, since my husband is a smoker, I gave in and stayed in a smoking room. Be warned that the smoking rooms have no ventilation, no fan, no way of opening a window so they are pretty gross. My husband even said it was pretty bad.
I really liked having an Outback as the onsite restaurant. The food was prepared just as in the States complete with steamed veggies – something hard to find in the islands. Just a block and a half away is the main street with Burger King, Walgreens, and other fast food type restaurants.
A block and a half away is the beach. We weren’t there for the beach and just walked over to check it out. To me, it certainly wasn’t the beautiful Caribbean beach you might expect. The block between the main street and the beach was just full of trash – disgusting actually.
The free breakfast was just passable. The omelets were edible – that’s about all I can say about them. We didn’t partake in the free happy hour but each day saw pretty long lines of people waiting for their free drinks. We didn’t use the pool but it looked nice but small.
I would stay here again for a short stay but would never select this place as a land based vacation resort.
By the way, we hired a private driver for two days through Countryside Tours. This was worth every penny. We got to see so much of the real Puerto Rico plus the tourist sites of Arecibo, Ponce, and El Yunque. The Fajardo area has beautiful beaches and resorts and I would look into that area if I were to return to Puerto Rico for a land vacation.
