My wife and I live on Oahu and were out celebrating our anniversary going out for dinner in Waikiki. After dinner, on a whim we decided to find a hotel for the night, and it needed to be economical. Islander Waikiki was close by met our needs. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and refreshing and the price was right. We liked having real coffee cups and drinking glasses that were glass! The view was acceptable given the price of $109/night which is a special due to construction in the area. The location is great, close to shopping and great restaurants, closer to the beach than a lot of hotels in this price range.
There are some areas where the hotel fell short. One of which is no pool, which I think is needed when you are not on the beach and have kids. The bath room was clean but it was hard to have two people in the same area, very tight. We had a king sized bed but the mattress was low rent. The lanai is very small and only has room for one chair and table, and due to the smoking ban in most areas of Hawaii, this location is used often by smokers, then the smoke drifts into other units so you don't want to leave your door open. Parking in this area of Waikiki is very expensive at $18/ day.
Overall we were happy with our stay and would be open to come again. We would recommend this to people mostly with out kids that are budget minded that what to spend their days looking at what Hawaii has to offer or to go shopping and seeing what all Waikiki has to offer.

I would say overall that the hotel was accomodating with all the construction going on in the vicinity. I wouldn't book with families, but if you're like going with a bunch of guys then 'no' problem.
Rooms were a tad bit small but it provided all the convenience i needed. Would i stay there again? Only if i go with friends the next time around.

I am a travel agent and went to Hawaii November 4 to visit many resorts on Maui and Kauai. I had to stay on Oahu for my first night since I got in late. I decided to check out Waikiki for my clients and chose the Ohana Islander Waikiki. Needless to say, I did not like it there. I was dropped off by the shuttle in the middle of a construction zone and had to lug my bags up while 2 male workers watched me (at 10:30 at night). The check in is not on the main level; the lobby was tacky and old. My room was barely ok, but I checked for problems with the bedding and I just crashed. The bathroom was scary and I showered quickly the next morning and walked around the area. It is a good location and I could always find where I was because of the construction piles in front of the entrance. Maybe the construction efforts will help, but I found the overall cleanliness a little sketchy and everything is very dated.

My husband and I along with two of our adult children and several cousins stayed at the Ohana Islander. We requested a City View room - we were in room 1122 and the rest of my family menbers were also on the 11th floor. The view we had was showing a partial ocean view along with the main street. It looked beautiful especially at night. I had no complaints...the maid service was great, the people at the desk friendly. The only thing was the construction still going on. Who cares, we spent most of our time at the beach, shopping and going on various excursions. We also rented a car and took a drive around the whole island which was beautiful. I look forward to going back next year....by that time all the construction will be completed. No complaints from my family members either.
