Frankly I am shocked to read ANY positive reviews of this hotel on trip advisor. Unfortunately, we read them and booked at the PK partly due to these reviews, and we were extremely disappointed. Maybe our expectations were just too high, having stayed at nicer hotels in the past.
To say that the PK is old and run down is understating the truth. If you want a hotel that is clean, new, nice, modern; Then this is not your place. Our arrival in their drive up area was greeted by a mob of people also arriving, but not a single solitary valet, and not a single, solitary bellman. I was finally told that they don't valet, and told to pull around back to their self-parking garage. For the privilege of parking my own car in their dilapidated, crowded garage that has NO ELEVATOR in it, I was CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $20 A DAY. So if you plan to have a rental car, factor that into your costs.
Our "ocean view" room on the 19th floor (also paid $50 more a night for the ocean view) was a view of buildings, but if you walked out on the crumbling deck and looked 90 degrees to the right, you had a ocean view, so I guess that counts. The elevators to get to the 19th floor were always crowded and slow, and stopped on the 12th floor (with no passengers waiting) every single time you went down.
The lobby and pool area were a constant area of activity, and the free pineapple was a nice touch, especially when waiting in the lengthy lines to check in and check out. The TV checkout system doesn't work, and the business center computers are nice in that they are complimentary, but not nice in that they are not connected to any printers, so you can't print boarding passes or anything like that.
The hallways, corridors, carpet, EVERYTHING, has a musty 1960's, run down feel to it. Sheraton/Westin have 3 other properties within walking distance and all of them, especially the Sheraton Waikiki just down the way, are nicer and classier. The PK is obviously the poor stepchild of the rest and they have not put a dime into the place in 30 years, I guarantee that.
The room was a joke. Standard size, old furniture. I didn't know they still made color TV's as small as the one in this room, it was like 10 inches, in a terrible old cabinet. The bed was actually fairly new it seemed and comfortable, but the A/C worked very poorly. I called maintenance about it after the first night and was told they would look at it. Not sure if they did, but it did not improve. The bathroom was dingy and the tile and counters were old, old, old. The whole place is badly in need of a makeover, or the wrecking ball.
We also booked on a package where we were offered $100 "dining credit" for any of the restaurants in this hotel or the sister properties. We had 2 great meals at Rum Fire, at the OTHER Sheraton, only to find out when we checked out, that the $100 was for "food only". No drinks, none of the tax, nothing but purely food was covered, so we didn't even make it to $100 on our stay. What a scam! This was nowhere in the fine print, but what can you do at this point?
