Myself, spouse, 16 yr old daughter and her best friend visited Waikiki/O'ahu April 2008. We rented a 1 bdrm kitchenette for 8 nights. It was a corner unit, great space, clean room/hotel, extremely friendly staff, very accomodating. Short walk(2 blocks) to the beach and very near shopping and International Marketplace. Only complaint...pullout sofabed mattress wasn' t all that comfortable. Good pricing. Overall great experience.

“Good place to stay”

We stayed at the Ohana East for 1 night at the beginning and 3 nights at the end of our vacation in November 2007.

The hotel is in a great location, 1 block back from the beach, ABC store right across the road and plenty of eateries within a short distance.

Check in on both occasions was a breeze, staff were very friendly and courteous. The room was nice, nothing spectacular, but a nice comfortable king size bed, tv with plenty of channels, plenty of storage space and a good size fridge. The bathroom was quite small and the shower was even smaller, but for the 5-10 minutes you spend in there it was fine. Both times we had rooms that overlooked the main road and it did get a little noisy during the night with traffic, but it didn't bother me too much, and i'm a pretty light sleeper.

The elevators weren't the most pleasant experience and during busy periods you could be waiting a long time for one.

We didn't use the pool but we had a view of it from our room and it looked nice.

We used the tour booking service in the lobby to book a tour of Pearl Harbor and they were very helpful and we really enjoyed the tour.

Another very useful feature of this hotel is if you're flying Hawaiian airlines to the mainland you can check in your bags and get your ticket in the lobby, but you have to be there when the Hawaiian airlines rep is there in the morning and it looks like she's only there for a short amount of time (be there by 9:30am). We were flying to San Diego and found it so much easier to not travel with our bags to the airport and just go straight to security.

Overall we really enjoyed this hotel. Compared to prices of some other hotels in Waikiki it is a bargain, but don't expect a 5 star hotel. If you want to save your money for other things then I recommend this hotel. If you expect plush rooms with ocean views then stay somewhere else.

“Nice Hotel, Was Happy Overall”

Took my mom to Hawaii in November of 2005 for vacation. Asked for a room near the top, which was honored. Forgot to ask to be away from elevators, we were right next door to them and the maids closet. Neither of which was too much of a bother. Nice, clean room - however the beds were pretty hard! After a day of walking and sightseeing, they were not the most comfortable to be coming back to at the end of the night. Good AC, nice spacious bathroom save for the smallest shower I have ever used. I could barely turn around in it and had to crouch to rinse my hair, (I'm only 5'6!). Coffee maker and fridge in room. Anything you could ever want is within walking distance, access to Waikiki beach was easy. Staff very nice and helpful. Enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again.

“Good Value for money”

My family (including 3 children ) stayed at the Ohana East and we were very pleasantly surprised. We had read some people complaining that it was expensive, but that is their travel agent's fault. We had a 1 bedroom kitchenette on the 18th floor and we recieved ocean views ( we did not pay for ocean views). The room was clean, the maid service was effiecient (our rooms were made up by 9.30 daily ) and I thought the hotel represented excellant value.Yes, the bathrooms are small, but how much room do you need, the free local calls were great as was the free trolley pass.Great location and friendly staff.

“Basic but you're in Hawaii--not a hotel room.”

We stayed here for two weeks this past February as part of a pro-bowl vacation and it was a nice stay (not Fabulous) but nice.We had a few issues upon checking in the room, the bathroom needed to be re-cleaned and the closet in the bathroom seemed rather odd, the wait for the elevators seemed quite lengthy but we were just happy to be in Hawaii on vacation!

We did request the following morning that our room be changed because trying to get ready with that closet in the bathroom proved more trying on our marriage than family holidays. The new room we were given was on a higher floor, had a nicer view, more spacious and was quieter since we were so far away from street level and the front desk staff were really lovely and helpful.

Pool area was simple, plenty of lounge chairs, the bar staff could work on their people skills-one bar maid seemed like she had on "cranky pants" every time we saw her working, we stopped going to the bar and brought our own cocktails/sodas poolside instead.

The hotel is in a wonderful location, walking distance to everything and just one black from the beach!

For what we would spend for one week at a "big name" hotel chain we stayed for TWO weeks at the OHANA and I'd prefer to spend more time in PARADISE than say "we're at the Hilton or the grand Hyatt (overrated by the way)".

It's all relative and really how much time do you spend in a hotel room when you're in Hawaii?
