“Fantasic hotel, great location”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

Jun 26, 2008

Caroline, Dave, Paul & Jayne - Essex, UK

We stayed 6 nights at the resort quest waikiki beach 13/06 - 20/06/08 and had a fantastic time. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were very spacious & we had booked a partial ocean view room 1726 & 1724 which had a brilliant views of waikiki beach & the pacific ocean. Waking up to that view was a fantastic feeling. The only downside to the hotel i have to say is the breakfast as there was little choice and you did have to be down very early to get anything, but that never put us off the hotel in any way as there are plenty of places nearby where you could always get breakfast if you should wish to. I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone thinking of going there. We would just like to say a very big thank-you to all the management & staff at resort quest waikiki beach for making our holiday a very memorable one.

“Great location...”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Orange County, CA
Jun 26, 2008

Our family stayed here for 6 days recently. We booked 2 rooms. On one hand, the location is very attractive, and my family really enjoyed the daily breakfast, but on the other, some incidents made me question whether I'd return.

Some things that happened during our stay:

- We were charged for the safety deposit box we didn't use. Although this was corrected right away, the staff was not very friendly when I pointed this out to her, No apology, nothing!
(note: I've only stayed at a couple hotels that ever charged for safety deposit box. I really hope, this is not going to be a standard practice. I personally found this ridicilous)

- I found a bird poop stain on one of the sheets one day. I don't know how often they changed the sheets, but obviously they changed it that one day since before the room was cleaned, the sheet definetaly did not have that stain. I'm somewhat OCD, so I checked everything before I sit/lay on it. To clarify, I'm not complaining about the sheet change, but the fact that it was changed into a sheet with a bird poop stain on it. We called Housekeeping to change the sheet right away.

- I don't know what the protocol is for Housekeeping when they walked in and the occupant is in the shower. Do they leave, do they go? Well, in my case, the housekeeping lady walked in while I was in the shower and went on with her business cleaning the room. I suppose it was my fault for not hanging the "do not disturb" sign. One other thing that I found strange was, when I finally walked out of the bathroom and noticed her, she didn't even bother turning around to acknowledge my presence even after I apologized for being in her way. Perhaps the tip we leave daily wasn't enough???

Now, moving on to my general comments about the hotel...

The goods:

- Location, location, location. It's right across from the beach, so obviously that is very convenient. It's convenient to shops, restaurants, etc.
- My family loved the breakfast.

The not-so-greats:

- The elevators. It's kinda ridicilous that you have to take two different elevators from your room to the lobby AND to go down to the street level. And for some reasons, the elevators were super slow, especially during peak hours.

- I am really big on Customer Service, so I may be a bit particular about this. I didn't find the staff friendly at all. We've stayed at different hotels in Oahu and also Maui, I think, the staff I encountered here was the least friendliest. The restaurant staff, particularly was NOT friendly ( to be fair, I'm not sure if they are under the same management, so I should probably not include them here).

- The bathroom is super small.

- Again, this is because I'm a bit OCD, but I found both of the rooms quite dirty and really dusty, especially the bathrooms.

In conclusion, while the family loved the location and distance, the hotel itself did not quite meet our expectations. Perhaps our expectations were a bit high considering the good reviews we've read?

“Fantastic Place, Full of the Aloha Spirit”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Southern CA
Jun 26, 2008

This was a carefully-researched choice. We didn't need the Ritz-Carlton, we just wanted a reasonably-priced hotel with king-sized beds and ocean views. The ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel came up with great feedback, so we booked it (king-sized bed, ocean view).

Initially they could not give us a king room; we ended up in an upper-floor double-double ocean-view room. But I still rate the place as "excellent". Why?

First, the room was unavailable because the current occupants loved the place and extended their stay. That is a strong endorsement of the hotel's high quality and level of comfort.

Second, the alternative room was still nice and clean, and the double beds were pretty comfortable, if a bit tight for two.

Third, the entire staff personified the aloha spirit and made us feel perfectly at home.

Fourth, after two nights we were upgraded to a higher-floor king room with a spectacular ocean view. We had arrived in heaven. What a joy! The room's décor was kitschy and charming, the bed was supremely comfy, and everything worked. Yes, the bathroom was not large and maybe a bit dated, but nothing was broken. And within ten minutes of arriving at the hotel that first afternoon, we had become so relaxed that we were in a state of bliss.

Fifth, Tiki's rocks. We loved the bar scene, the great food, the little bands playing on the weekend, the super-friendly wait staff.

Finally, it's the "not-so-crazed" stretch of Kalakaua, so it was less packed and nutty than a few blocks west.

Thank you, RQ Waikiki Beach Hotel, for helping make our Honolulu/O'ahu trip so memorable and romantic and wonderful.

“Nice hotel but can be quite noisy”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

My partner and I stayed here for 11 days about a week ago. The staff were very friendly and we got upgraded to an ocean view straight away - please note before I go on do NOT STAY IN ROOM 1407!! So this is the room we were placed in and it was lovely and the view was great...however, during the night I could hear the ICE MACHINE right outside our door ALL NIGHT - churning away making a terrible noise! I was not impressed so asked the staff to either turn it off or move us, they very kindly moved us to the 21st floor and the view was fantastic! I was very happy. However, once we unpacked I could hear another awful noise and realised it must have been the lifts!! We stayed in 2111 and were the first door round the corner from the lifts and by god do they make a racket! I could not sleep properly my whole stay and couldn't be bothered to ask for another room - again. This is the only thing that made our stay unpleasant. Oh and I don't think the free breakfast was that great either - horrible scrambled egg in a plastic container and the tea was nothing great either. However... the hotel is in an excellent location, right next to the beach and souvenir shops and only a 10 min walk to the Cheesecake Factory which serves delicious meals! The pool is good too and like I said the staff are very friendly - also lots of computers for internet usage. Overall, a nice hotel just a little noisy so don't stay in the rooms we stayed in otherwise you'll be on here writing exactly what I've written! :o)

“Great stay at the Waikiki Beach Hotel”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Atlanta, GA
Jun 22, 2008

We had a great stay at the hotel. The view was outstanding from the 16th floor room (see attached photo). The location was great (on Waikiki beach). The room was nice and updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. We requested a late checkout and they were able to accommodate our request even though they were fully booked on Saturday. They had a good set up for luggage storage at the bell-person area and were also able to arrange for a taxi to the airport at the required time.
Some minor dislikes:
There is a charge for internet access. The breakfast set up was crowded if you get there late and it was pre-made breakfast items (e.g. breakfast burritos or sausage egg biscuits). The trick is to send a food forager (that would be the dad) to bring back items to your room.
