Decided to stay here based on the tripadvisor reviews, and I was 100% pleased. Arrived at midnight, to be greeted by the Manager Mitch. Despite having to wait up that late for us, he was genuinely friendly and actually quite funny. He upgraded us to a casita with a small kitchen and separate living area - at no extra cost! The back door opened up onto the beautiful courtyard. The casita was immaculate and very comfortable. Truly a home away from home. Loved the breakfast sunroom that overlooked the courtyard. Lenn, cooked up a yummy breakfast each day of eggs, bacon and pancakes or french toast. With my husband away at meetings, I ate alone, never once feeling uncomfortable or as if I was being rushed. While our reservation was for three nights, my husband was called back to his office and we needed to leave after the second night. Mitch was very gracious in not charging us the third night. Not only did he do that, but he gave us suggestions as to where we might go while waiting for our plane to depart. He suggested Sky City. About and hour drive from the inn - it was definitely worth it. Mitch was on target again! We were so pleased we went. By the way, if you happen to go to Sky City, try to get Dale as your tour guide - she was awesome! As far as Old Town goes, it's definitely somewhat of a "tourist trap", although the church and buildings definitely have the history. Had lunch at the Church Street Cafe. They were friendly and food was good. Being a frequent traveler for both business and pleasure, I'm usually anxious to get home. I must admit, I wish I could have stayed a little longer at Casas De Suenos. It was just too heavenly.

Walk to Old Town easily from Casa de Suenos and when you return chill out in the garden. Three women shared an airconditioned two-bedroom casita with sofa sleeper in the living room. The foldout bed was comfortable enough that I crashed at 11:00 and did not wake up until 9:30 the next morning. A full kitchen and dining room was available for our private use but we opted for breakfast in the small cafe where excellent omelets were created according to each guest's taste preferences. Staff is very service oriented. One big plus is an internet connection that is provided to all guest's free of charge. For golfers, there's a course right across the street. Before buying any jewelry I suggest a visit to the Turquoise Museum, which is also within walking distance, as you'll be much more knowledgeable after your trip through this educational museum.

“Cool, funky, friendly casas, not a hotel 'box,' and that's good”

Casas de Suenos

Jul 25, 2005

Picking a place to stay off the internet is always a gamble, but recently I rolled the dice on Casas de Suenos in Alburqueque, and came up a winner. The pictures on their website don't do it justice, so I thought I would add this review. Our family (my wife & I, and a 12 yr old) were traveling on an extended road trip through NM and Colorado, and wanted to stop in ABQ so I could visit a good buddy. The Casas looked kinda cool on the website, but I thought the price would be hard to justify because my wife is usually very thrifty. I gambled that since breakfast would be included, and we could cook dinners in the casa, we would actually save money, or at least break even relative to a traditional hotel "box."

From the moment my wife walked in through the funky entrance she was hooked. My wife and daughter went immediately exploring the internal central coutyard rosegarden that all the casas back up to, while I checked in. Some lucky corporate traveler was ahead of me, and the poor guy didn't have any real confirmation, but the clerk de Suenos was very gracious in handling his check in. The clerk must have felt bad about my wait or something because he offered to upgrade me from a one-bedroom with sleeper sofa to a 2 bedroom. Ok! I wasn't mad, I was just grooving on the lobby, but now I'm even happier!

Previously over the phone I had asked about parking, since that is a problem at a lot of "in-city" boutique hotels. He told me not a problem, and boy was he right. We had our own personal driveway that was literally 4 steps away from our front door of our own little house. And what a house. A big living room, formal dining room 2 bedrooms all with cool, sturdy original funky SWestern furniture & original art. Newly refinished real hardwood floors. Our own Kitchen with modern appliances, including a real refrigerator, brand new space age gas stove, microwave, & coffee maker, and all the dishes and silverware. I was suddenly very jealous of the corporate traveler. What a great place for an extended stay!

I don't even remember looking at a menu for breakfast. The cook came out into the wonderful atrium like breakfast area and met me and asked what I wanted, he could cook anything, I asked about omelots, and he described many wonderful ingredients, and half-jokingly I said OK to all of that, and he replied cheerfully, "one kitchen sink omelot coming up!"

The location can't be beat, you are one block away from a big city park, a few blocks from old town. I am very noise sensitive, but the thick adobe walls must be a great sound insulator.

My only caution is that if you like traditional, box hotels, you may not care for this place. If you like funky, restored bungalows, in town, & when you consider the value of the breakfast, ability to cook dinner in your own kitchen, spread out in a living room, this is living. So we are kicking ourselves that we didn't book more nights at this lovely find.

“Home Away from Home (without the work!)”

Casas de Suenos

We found this magical place on the Internet, choosing it based on a TripAdvisor review soon after the owners began renovating the units. Casa de Suenos is a cultural gem in the Boutique Hotel industry. We found the provisions basic to all hotels to be excellent. The ambience is spacious, warm, comfortable, with an authentic Southwestern feel.

Breakfast is superb - a down to earth meal and very filling. The breakfast nook - surrounded by windows - brings in lots of sun and a fireplace keeps you even warmer in the winter. Tastefully decorated, the interior of the rooms are one of kind, each having a unique characteristic and amenity, including hardwood floors, poster beds and we had a nice Jacuzzi tub. Some of the rooms even have surround-sound, flat-screen television and fast-speed Internet. Located next to a golf course, privacy is at a premium, even though Albuquerque’s Old Town center is a walking distance away.

The price was right then, (February 2005), when it was probably still a best-kept secret.

What really made this place special was the quality of the staff - how they made us feel at home and treated us as if we had known them for years. Originally from New Orleans, the owners are well traveled, knowledgeable of the region, and always available to make your stay well worth a return trip. Whatever your reason is to stay in Albuquerque, Casa de Suenos is a dream haven come true!

If you need Sheraton-type sameness... Casa de Suenos may not be for you. However, if you want a unique place to stay with a truly local feel, it's wonderful. The grounds are so lovely, several small gardens, each different. Lots of southwestern-style furnishings in the Kachina suite, with plenty of room on a queen-size fold out in the living room for our teen-age son. The plumbing has not been completely modernized, but that is easily outweighted by the charm of everything else. Great breakfast cooked to order! Very friendly and helpful staff.
