“Honeymoon from Hell”

Costa Dorada Beach Resort

My husband and I just returned from our stay at Costa Dorada Beach Resort, which is by far the worst resort in Puerto Rico. It definitely does not live up to its name. I live in the Northern area in Puerto Rico and love doing tourism within the Island. I've been to many Paradors, Hotels and Resorts in Puerto Rico so I have a strong basis for comparison. My husband and I planned a short honeymoon vacation and made a reservation for 3 nights/4 days. However, we only stayed 2 nights because of our terrible experience at the resort. The rooms were very unattended; we had ants all over the bathroom; the air conditioning was either too cold or too hot and we could not control the temperature (if we wanted to change the temperature we had to call the front desk so they could send someone with a master control to change it); we found pubic hairs in the bed; the balcony view was a decorative fountain with green water; the "restaurant" does not have air conditioner so there were flyes all over the food being served; the beach is too dangerous to go in the water and there's absolutely nothing to do but go to the pool so you'll be very bored.

The personnel strives to give good service and treat customers the best they can. However, this does not helps at all because the facilities are extremely deteriorated.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! Rincón Beach Resort and Rincón of the Seas are excellent alternatives.

“Disappointed. Go to another place.”

Didn't expect what I found in Costa Dorada Beach Resort. I live in PR and this is the worst hotel to stay. The room service is poor they didn't put toilet paper and they changed from high to low the air conditioner. The maintenance of the hotel is the worst. Now I can see why I didn’t find any pictures of the rooms and surrounding areas. I reserved for 4 days and 3 nights and I only stayed for 3 days. In 2005 I stayed in Rincon Beach Resort (in Rincon) and I give a 5 out of 5. All the opposite from Costa Dorada Beach Resort. I also heard that Villa Montaña (in Isabela) is also a good hotel.

Don’t stay if you want to save money. Rincon of the Seas and Rincon Beach Resort are better. Also there are many guesthouses in Rincon with excellent service. I’m a surfer who lives in Ponce, PR and believe me Costa Dorada is the worst. Things that I enjoyed: Isabela, waves, and Happy Belly’s restaurant.

“Worst of All”

The picture looked good so I reserved for 3 nights.Well first they put paper wristbands on us to wear while there, then it turns out you have to cross a public road to get over to the beach. That's not too bad but there was a gate that's kept locked to get to the beach and no one knew where the key was !The grounds are filled with nice palm trees that are filled with coconuts that drop.A helmet would be nice.In the room the flapper lock on door was hanging by 1 screw, the phone didn't work, the clock did't work ,to lock the sliding patio door they had drilled a hole at the top of it and slid a nail in to lock it.It goes on &on.After one sleepless night we checked out.

My husband and I (along with our 16yr old daughter) had the misfortune of staying at this so called "Resort" what a waste of our time and money!!! we only checked in this place, because my daughter was taking surfing lessons and the other places were booked, upon checking in they put a bright colored florescent band on your wrist (they say so that they know who their guests are) and you are told not to remove it until you check-out, so if you are going to be more than one night and are visiting other areas, everyone knows that you are a visitor to the area (kind of scary, when you think about it, u walking around and some person can read your band and find out where you are staying, resort has no seen security) Bartender was not very bright, I asked for a "Mojito" he didn't know what it was, not even a "Cuba Libre" which is bacardi and coke. No breakfast, Restaurant was over priced staff did not look to friendly (it was empty every night we were staying. You Have to go to Happy Belly's restaurant, great staff and views of the surfers, foods isn't tooooo bad either!!! Also on Rt 2, Mr. Mofongo's is delicious and reasonable priced, I got the Mofongo stuffed Lobster for under $16.00 and had BIG chunks of lobster( and lots of em). No Room Service, you have to pay machine for ice (25cents, you got maybe a small glass full , if you were lucky) The beach is across a road and does not have easy access, it's a slope with no easy footing, unless your spry and sure footed, otherwise you have to literally jump 3 feet to reach it. I could go on about this so called resort, but if you do find yourself in Isabela, I reccomend you stay either in Aguadilla(cielo de Mar is nice) or in Guajataca and make the drive to Isabela(it's about 15 to 30 minutes depending where you stay). Also, if you are looking for surf lessons, Werner Vega is the go to guy, he is a GREAT surf instructor, he has been giving my child lessons for about the last 4or 5 yrs (every time we go to Puerto Rico). If anyone out there knows of any other places in Isabela other than the ones in the "Que Pasa" magazine, to stay at, please let me know. To date I have stayed at the "Sonia Rican house--terrible, my whole family got sick from the pool. Villa Montana seems to never have availabilty, no matter when we go, also they advertise one set of rates & quote & charge different rates. TSK. TSk.

“I'd rather stay in a motel 6!!!”

This past weekend was the worst in history, my husband and I have not seen such a dirty so called "Resort". This is the first thing that comes to my mind, a resort?? Who named this place a resort? Areas are dirty, all the rails by the stairs are so full of rust that I'm surprised they have not falled off. In the bar by the pool the very rude waitress charged my husband who is american $4 for a small perrier water. When he told me (I'm puertorican) I went back and she got very nervous so gave me $1 back, charging him more because she thought he was a gringo tourist. My husband only stayed 10 minutes inside the pool because it was so filthy you could not even see the bottom, an old and rusty jacuzzi by the pool full of bugs, the kids pool dirty and full of bugs also. Now if you're shocked wait until you hear this! The rooms are nothing like they have in their advertisement. An old, cheap and dirty mattress that would not stay in place, sheets had old stains God knows from what, a/c was blowing in my face but that's how the room is arranged. Coffemaker yes with 2 cups and one of them very dirty yeak! oh but no coffee....yes you have to buy the coffee in a vending machine for the price of $2.....the shower made me gag because it was so dirty and ants all over the walls, curly black hair by the toilet!! we both have ash blonde hair. No guides in the room to where was the restaurant located, if they had room service, ammenities located or nothing. My husband and I had to look for everything by ourselves and then they have so many rules like no food or drinks in the rooms, no visitors, etc...When they told us that in the reception we felt we were going into a prison. All this for the price of $169.00 dollars per night. With this kind of money we could have stayed at a 5 star hotel. We will never stay there again and I am going to make sure these people get visited by the Health department. My husband says any motel would have been better. Don't fall for the pictures they have in their web site, that's the mistake I made.
