“Quiet and comfortable”

Costa Dorada Beach Resort

It was the perfect quiet retreat for my family of five. We always travel with my children and my mother so the villa worked out well. Everyone had there own space. Since it was still the off season it was relatively quiet. The down side of this is that not all of the amenities were available during our entire stay. (The villa cabana was closed during the week as was the gift shop). We deemed this a small price to pay for the home style comfort and convenience we did have. We will definately be going back. Oh and just a side note they will be opening a small casino within the next few months on the property.

“poor excuse for a resort”

Costa Dorada Beach Resort

My husband and our 16 month old daughter spent one night at this poor excuse for a resort. We paid $130 for a room that looked like a cheap hotel room (a la Motel 6). There was no remote for the TV, the blankets and pillows had black hairs on them and the AC blasted the person sleeping on the bed next to it- with no way to turn the vents.

Most of the staff were rude to us, because we were Americans. Although the grounds were beautiful, the restaurant was totally over-priced for mediocre food. We were forced to pay $9 for a breakfast buffet and were not given directions about food tickets or bracelets to wear at the resort pool.

we felt we were treated badly because we were Americans and will never stay at this so called "resort" again. There were many Puerto Ricans spending their holiday weekend at the Resort the same night we were, and they were given instant attention and extra care. We were not even given a high chair for our daughter after making a request. When 2 other Puerto Rican couples came to dinner with small children...they were brought high chairs immediately.

This place was dirty and totally over priced.

“Iberostar Costa Dorado is Great”

I recently returned from a week of fun and relaxation at Iberostar Costa Dorado in Puerto Plata. This resort is first class and deserving of the high reviews it receives. I had an oceanview room, which was kept clean. The resort is very clean, and the food is pretty good. I preferred La Hacienda (mexican rest) over El Rodizio (brazilian rest) The employees go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. If you do go to Puerto Plata venture outside of the resorts, it is safe! I hired Martin Espinal as a driver and he took me any and everywhere I wanted to go. (Shopping, Sosua, Cabarete, San Felipe Fort, Amber Museum etc) Also please remember this is a poor country so if someone gives great service tip them, and try and understand when vendors are persistent with selling their wares. If you aren't interested tell them No me gusta, and they generally will leave you alone.

I went to Costa Dorado about 2yrs ago with my family the six of us stood ina room that sleeps six the beds in our room were comfortable but the room with the full bed felt like a concrete bed but thats the only bad thing i have to say about the place we went to the local supermarket and bought some food for the weekend since its like an apartment so u can cook ur own food, so i never tried the food in the restaurant but i passed it and it looks real nice the pool is clean the basketball court is by the beach i stood in villa across from the court the place is gorgeous the beach is so beautiful and when the sun rises u can climb up this coral kind of little mountain and the view is spectacular and if u dare to go to the other side of the reef theres a little cave u can explore that was to us a nice private jacuzzi when the ocean fills it
they even have a mini beach where u can put ur kids there and wont have to worry about them drowning if u go ull see what i mean the water is crystal clear beautiful i mean its like being in paradise the people are so nice. the day we left i felt so bad i swore that when i got older when i returned to puerto rico id spend my whole vacation there. they even have a trail hike through the mountain and a horse coral if thats ur kind of thing. the place is like i said before paradise.

“Won't go back; don't need to be insulted”

Costa Dorada Beach Resort

My eldest son and I spent one night at Costa Dorada Beach Resort as part of a trip to Aguadilla and the Ramey AFB where I’d been stationed (1968-1970). The hotel was easy to get to (if you're bilingual or have better maps than we did) and the staff was generally friendly and helpful. The on-site restaurant, where we ate supper and breakfast, was an open air, covered patio sort of deal with a bar right next to it. Techno music was pouring out of a boom box at the bar in the evening & the service was fairly good. Made for an interesting dinner, which was not all that exceptional.
Our room was on the second floor of one of the wings of the main building. The AC was somewhat noisy, but the worst part of it was the way the room was laid out: the person sleeping near the outside wall (and thus, near the AC unit) was blasted in the face with cold, somewhat damp air. (I stuck a chair in the way and laid one of the pillows across the back of the chair to redirect the air flow away from my face.)
The weakest moment of our stay was the morning after breakfast when we checked out. When we brought our bags downstairs, I asked my son to go back up to the room and get the TV remote before we checked out. While he was gone, one of the grounds people was talking to the two women at the registration desk. Thinking that I was not bilingual, he made the comment in Boricua that I “should have gone to Aguadilla to pick up some gay boy.” (He used the term “maricón,” a somewhat demeaning term for gays.) I thought about what he’d said for a minute and was almost about to say something about his indiscrete statement when my son returned with the TV remote. We signed out & left.
If the comment from this hotel’s staff person was any sign of the way they view their clientele, I don’t think I’ll be going back there again.
