“No problems”

We stayed at this hotel during a week long driving tour of Iceland.

We were grateful to the staff for staying up well into the night to greet us on arrival due to flight delays out of the UK.
Armed with our hire car and map we found the hotel pretty easily from the airport.

The room was fine though nothing amazing when you consider we had to pay an additional supplement to stay here (we booked a self drive package via an agent). It was quite dated with its decor, perhaps we were paying extra for the proximity to the Blue Lagoon which is great btw.

This hotel was fairly comfortable though I did not expect such thin curtains given the extended daylight hours at this time of year. If the light impacts on your sleep I suggest an eye mask if visiting in the summer as most hotels we visited had thin curtains :(
Surely the locals do not use such thin curtains in the summer?

As others have noted the breakfast is the standard Icelandic fare. though quite basic compared to some others we experienced.

Set next to the geothermal power station it is ideally located to visit the blue lagoon. Views are of the power station not the "lagoon" but the restaurant does good food (at least the veggy option was good) and looks stunning (see their website). Breakfast is pretty terrible for an aspiring hotel including brown apple slices and bags of sliced bread. Fireside lounge area is very nice too - and decor outside the rooms is thoughtfully chosen. Rooms are pretty basic - bring your own shampoo! Beds very comfortable. When we were there they dug up the parking area outside and we had to walk across a building site with all our luggage... hmmm. Can highly recommend the blue lagoon though (just don't look at the cost).

My wife and I booked a short stopover in Iceland on our way to Norway and Latvia. We picked the Northern Lights Inn, in Grindavik because of its proximity to the airport and the Blue Lagoon.

The owner picked us up at the airport at 5:30 am local time and was cheerful and welcoming. (Don't discount the value of the pick up, Iceland's public transportation system isn't so regularly scheduled or cheap). We checked into our room and were offered breakfast. The Inn is lovely, and the rooms are comfortable. Don't expect luxury accommodations, but for the ruggedness of Iceland, the Inn is perfect.

One important tip, be certain to close the window at night. The breeze may bring some of the sulfur odor from the geothermal stations nearby. It dissipates quickly, but turn off the heat rather than leave the window open at night.

Our host recommended dinner at the Salt Fish House in a nearby town. It was the best meal we had in Iceland.

We will definitely return to the Inn, next time during the winter months to see the northern lights.

“Try and beat this hotel!”

Northern Light Inn

Mar 9, 2008

We stayed at the Northern Light Inn for a long weekend after reserving our room by email. Kristyana, who is lovely, met us at the airport and took us to the hotel, just 15 minutes drive away.

The hotel (surrounded by mountains) was great - very warm, clean and inviting and our room was spacious and comfortable.

We knew when we booked the hotel that apart from the Blue Lagoon next door we would be in the middle of nowhere - which was exactly what we wanted. We never felt isolated though because Kristyana or her staff would just jump in the car and take you where you wanted to go. During our weekend they transported us to and from the airport, to and from Grindavik (at night whilst cooking for a large party of guests) and to the Blue Lagoon twice. We only had to ask and one of the staff would drop what they were doing and grab the car keys - I defy anyone to find another hotel that would be this accommodating.

Kristyana's Kitchen, the hotel restaurant, served wonderful food which was very well presented and tasted great. I will remember our meal looking out at the snow covered mountains for a very long time.

In all, the hotel helped make our trip to Iceland very special and if were to return, which I'm sure we will as we didn't get to visit Gulfoss or the Geyser, we would definitely head back to the Northern Light Inn.

We had 2 nights at the Northern Lights hotel and we loved it, although there is building work going on, it didn't interfere with our stay at all, the staff are very helpful and nothing was too much effort, the hotel food was outstanding and fantastic location for the Blue Lagoon.

I had read various reviews about this hotel some had mixed feeling but i couldn't fault the hotel at all, it suited our purpose as we went to Iceland to see the sights not to spend all weekend in our room.

If staying here you must must must go to the Blue Lagoon, we also did the Golden circle tour which was worth every penny, a very cold day but spectacular sights and breath taking views.

I would recommend a trip to Iceland to anyone and we were lucky enough to see the Northen Lights as well, the winter I would say is the best time to go and we were lucky because it had been snowing before we got there so it really was a winter wonderland, amazing!!!!!
