I stayed at the Sheraton while at a conference. Stayed 2 nights. Room was clean and maintenance fairly good. Nice view of the river. Good location. Room service(breakfast) was very prompt food good and at temperature. Also a Starbucks in the lobby. Staff accomodating. After reading other reviews I expected noise but it was very quiet. Good trip all in all.

I stayed at this hotel June 1-5 2008 for a conference. I stayed on the 47th. floor (club room). The first room was a view of the french quarter, but I wanted a water view. I went back down to the desk, and they changed me without any problem at all. I checked in about 11:00 a.m. so I ran into no line, but I did notice that about 2:00 p.m. there was a small line, but there were people at each check-in desk helping people.

There is not really any place in the hotel to eat. They only have one place on the second floor, and after looking at their list of foods and their price I went to MCDonalds across the street.

I really liked the location, so close to everything, and with the water view I had, the lights at night were really pretty.

I found every staff member to be kind, and very helpful. If I needed extras from housekeeping they always gave it to me. I guess it could be because I tiped them each day. But I do that anywhere I stay.

I must say however that driving around the area sucks. I had such a hard time. It seems that every road is one way, and it was never the way I wanted to go. But I managed. The streets are sooooo narrow too. Watch out about parking at the hotel, it cost me over 30 bucks a night. Having a car is not nesssary unless you want to go outside of the city. You can catch a shuttle at the airport, I think it cost $15 each way. And the trolly takes you just about anywhere you would want to go in the downtown area, plus other areas. And it is only $1.25 per trolly ride.

If I went for a conference again I would stay there, but for just my self I most likely would look for a cheaper and more family friendly place. Some place I could eat at the hotel and not have to go look for something.

All and all, my stay was nice.

Though on the whole the hotel was neat, clean, and reasonably modern, I found the experience frustrating. They have a tendency to "nickel & dime" their visitors at every opportunity. The fitness center is not free; neither is internet access. Most hotels at least have free wireless internet in the common areas of the hotel (e.g. the lobby), but this one -- no such luck. Internet service is based on a tiered rate structure, with the cheapest rate being $10 for 24 hours; the most expensive rate is just under $20 for 24 hours. I reluctantly signed up for the cheapest service for one 24-hour period (as I was suffering from internet withdrawl). Initially the service didn't work, so I called the front desk, and they put me through to a support center that was able to help me get up and running. [I later found out the hotel charged me $2 for that call!] Anyway, the next day I tried to use the internet service in the conference rooms, but there was almost ZERO reception, so I got the hotel to give me a refund for the service. You'd think, if they're going to charge good money for a service (which many give away for free), that it would at least work the way it should. Anyway, all things considered, it was not one of my better hotel experiences. Management really needs to reconsider some of their policies.

Was in New Orleans for a convention with my wife. The Hotel was OK (few lines at check-in or check-out), service was average to good overall.

A few problems to note:

1. Saw many smokers having to stand (no chairs or benches) outside the hotel because there were apparently no accommodations for smokers at the Sheraton. Many complained that none of the rooms had balcony's and there was NO smoking lounge inside the hotel. In addition, some of the smokers complained that they were told that they could smoke by the pool, but they closed and locked the doors at 9:00pm. Seems like they should at least have a decent lounge for them to smoke in.....

2. The Pool - the pool is very small for a major hotel, with barely 10 lounge chairs available, also there is NO Bar or service in sight. This was probably the most disappointing thing about our trip. The pools at several of the other nearby hotels were MUCH nicer, especially the one at the Royal Senesta on Bourbon Street.

Other than that, the hotel was OK, but overall, not nearly as nice was we expected. Several of the employees were very nice and cordial.
