“Would stay there again.”

Latham Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Charlottesville, VA
May 13, 2008

My friend and I came to Philadelphia to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit. The Latham was one of the Philadelphia Art Museum participating hotels which gave us VIP tickets to the exhibit as part of our room cost. We loved the hotel. Our room was well appointed and gave us a cozy feeling. It was clean with comfortable beds and two bottles of water. That's refreshing considering most hotels have the mini-fridge which is outrageously priced. Our view of the old church just added to the charm. Theafternoon staff was not as friendly as I would have expected. Not rude. Just not what we are used to "Southern Hospitality." However the Sat morning staff made up for it. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to my friends.

“Not a bad hotel but not great service either!”

Latham Hotel

Pittsburgh, PA
May 8, 2008

We stayed here while in the city for an engagement party. The location is GREAT--you can walk anywhere in the city pretty much, very convenient. Also, the valet service was very convenient. The room itself was not bad, a little old but not dirty or anything--just in need of an update I think. I really had no problem with the room or the hotel itself... the problems were with the staff. Upon arrival, I wanted to pay for the room up-front in cash, because I didn't want to carry all that cash around with me for the entire weekend. I personally prefer to pay cash rather than use my credit card, and the staff was not thrilled about it for some reason. I felt like what business of it is theirs how I like to pay?? Anyway, after an annoying debate about it, the room was paid for in cash. And to be nice, I even gave them my credit card number in case of extra costs, damages, etc. so they wouldn't feel stiffed if something happened. Anyway, we were only staying there for one night, and the next morning I noticed a bill had been slipped under our door. It was a bill for the room, as if I hadn't already paid! Also, we were charged for 2 nights on this bill! Upon checkout, I explained the situation, but the staff was rude and acted like I was lying that I had already paid claiming that there was no record of me paying cash. Thank god for the maintenance man... he had seen me check in and was standing near the desk during check out and confirmed my story. All in all, the hotel waived the erroneous bill, but they had already put a hold on my card (for TWO nights stay), so I had to wait for a week or two for the hold to fall off. So annoying. Aside from the staff, the hotel was fine... I just wouldn't tell my friends to stay there, given my experience.

“It was great.”

Philadelphia

We had a wonderful stay at the Latham Hotel.

Our room was clean, decent size and the shower had great water pressure.

The best part about the Latham is the location. It is one block from Rittenhouse Square, which is a litlle wonderful park. There is shopping galore, great restaurants and Starbucks right outside the door.
The staff was polite and helpful.

We would stay there again.

“One less place to stay in Philly”

Latham Hotel

New York, NY

If you are interested in a good night sleep, comfortable bed, even floors to walk on and a room without ants.... do not stay at this hotel! My family and I (party of 4) stayed at the Latham this past weekend and it was a horrible experience. My boyfriend and I had a previous experience at the Latham in 2002, which was positive. This time around, only one of our reserved rooms was ready upon check in. Also the carpet was torn, window cracked, mattress sagged with uncomfortable linens, rust on the bathroom ceiling and the overall decor of the hotel was outdated and disgusting. When we verbalized our concerns to the staff, we received a half-hearted apology and no efforts were made to make our stay better (we didn't even receive extra towels that we requested). As someone who frequents Philadelphia at least once a year, I will NEVER stay at this hotel again. The are much better hotels in the same area, so do your research.

“Won't stay here again.. -”

This used to be a great little hotel and it is in a wonderful part of town. BUT...
the restaurant has been closed for months and the hotel has no alternative arrangements - so NO ROOM SERVICE! And worse, they did not tell us that when we reserved.
Clearly they are cutting all corners - they even de-commissioned the ice machines on all but two floors - but again, did not tell us that either.
Dirty, too - I don't think the bedspreads have been cleaned for a really long time. One lamp didn't work, another outlet was off.

Sad, but I don't recommend it and won't stay there again.
