“Just what we were looking for!”

Best Western Independence Park Hotel

For a three star hotel- this one was tops! I was weary of staying in a 3 star hotel for a planned get-away for my husband's birthday, I wanted something special, but we couldn't afford a 4 star so soon after xmas. This hotel was PERFECT for the price!! The entrance is rather elegant with the grand staircase and fireplace sitting room. The deskman, Chris, was very friendly and so helpful! We had room 207 (1 queen), it didn't have a view, nor was it big, but it was very quiet and perfect for what I was looking for. The tall ceilings were impressive and the ammenities were nice. I had to call down for a shower cap and Chris had it ready to go for me. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. We dined at the Plough and The Stars (irish cuisine- and you can dress up) which was a block away. Visited the usual Olde City attractions. Had a drink at the classy Society Hill bar (just a block from the hotel as well). We had fun playing checkers beside the warm fire when we returned. The afternoon tea was nice.. cookies and tea (informal). The breakfast was GREAT! I wasn't expecting so much from a 3 star. Make your own Belgium waffles with strawberry compost/syrup. Fresh fruits, bagels, muffins, cereal, ETC in a skylit room. Very refreshing way to start the morning. Very comfortable place. No party kids, and not too stuffy.

I will note that the shower could have been more clean (some mildew spots on the wallpaper), but really that's my only complaint if any.

“Satisfaction”

Best Western Independence Park Hotel

We recently stayed overnight at this Best Western Independence Park Hotel and was quite pleased. Greeted with a warm and friendly front desk person (Chris) our stay was off to a great start. The quiet and cozy atmoshpere was pleasing and the rooms were great; clean (which I am overly concerned about) fresh and very quaint. The internet options, the free movie channels and the continental breakfast was fabulous. I loved the fact that we could make our own belgium waffles and the assortment of bagels, bread, muffins, cereals, yogurts, juices, coffee etc... (I know a few complained about the lask of food in previous reviews; maybe it has improved. Anyway, we were impressed and will definately come and visit again. Cannot beat the price for such a wonderful stay and such an ideal location.

About the ghost... still wondering if it was in my dream or the real deal here... hoping it was a dream!!!!!

BEST RESTAURANT: SFIZZIOS (block away) Amazing Italian food and greta prices.

“Just avoid the rooms at the front”

Best Western Independence Park Hotel

We had room 201. It seems that there are two rooms on each floor facing the street. I would avoid these, especially the ones on the 2nd floor.

We had a the hotel sign right outside our window and it was lit up with very bright lights that we could not block. To add to that, there was whooping and hollering on the street until past 2 am and this was a Monday night. It all added up to a terrible night's sleep.

The next morning I asked for a quieter room which was accommodated, though we got a pull-out sofa instead of a second bed. But the room was extremely quiet.

Location, as others have stated was excellent. Right in the heart of the historic district. Very very convenient.

Staff was friendly, rooms were clean, no complaints other than the noise in those front rooms.

We were a little disappointed in the breakfast. Maybe it's just me but when I think of Belgian Waffles I think of fresh fruit, whipped cream etc. These were make your own with only syrup. Pretty basic and filled the need but still not what was expected.

I would recommend this hotel.

“Older Hotel with Charm”

Best Western Independence Park Hotel

This is a historic hotel that has a lot of charm but like older hotels, has some eccentricities. The best part of this hotel is its location! Less than 3 blocks from the historic Philadelphia attractions: Penn's Landing, Independence Hall, etc. You have to pay $13 for 24 hour parking that you do NOT have come/go privileges so its best to plan on leaving the car in the lot and walking to everything. The breakfast look fancy with tables already set with glassware but is VERY limited. Basically, its make your own waffles or cereal. The first room we had was one queen and it was VERY small so we paid an extra $10 for a king room and it was well worth it. The decor is new and clean and the bath had its own jets and big fluffy towels. The front desk was friendly and helpful. We loved that this hotel has a resident ghost although we had no supernatural encounters. Overall, if you want the location and the charm of a historic hotel this is perfect but you have to expect some downfalls such as smaller rooms and some imperfections.

“Location, location, location”

Best Western Independence Park Hotel

Our family truly enjoyed our stay June 16, 2005. Because of the excellent location, we were able to walk to all the attractions we wanted to see in our short visit. Liberty Bell, Independence Hall were in easy walking distance. We also joined the Ghost Tour in the early evening and Lights of Liberty Show at 10:00 p.m. We felt very safe walking back to the hotel even at that late time of night.

We were very pleased with the room rate. We expected rates for that area of Philly would be much higher. The staff was friendly at check-in and helpful in finding a restaurant for dinner. There were numerous ones nearby-again, within walking distance. The rooms were very nice, clean and appeared to be recently updated. The breakfast was good - a nice selection of cereals, fruit, and our son especially liked the "make your own waffle" bar. We look forward to another trip to Philly and another stay at the Independence Park Hotel.
