“Hotel Average - Pricey Food Good”

Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue

Apr 19, 2008

I stayed at this Hilton during a business trip. It was disappointing for a Hilton brand. The housekeeping standard is more like a motel rather than a hotel. The carpet was not vacuumed well. I had to call guest services early in the morning to bring toilet tissue since only a partial roll was left in the room on my first day of check-in.

The room had 2 queen beds and a 32-inch Flat Screen HDTV. The bed was very comfortable. The temperature control in the room worked well.

The staff were friendly. The valet service was very good.

In the lobby they had a daily fruit infused water and a fresh fruit basket for guests.

The food was good. The full service cold/hot breakfast buffet was included with the price of the room. We had dinner twice at the hotel in Delmonico's Steakhouse. It is pricey as one might expect with the Delmonico name. The soup, salads, steak and fish were all good.

If I were in the area again, I would probably stay at another hotel due to not having the room maintained to a level that matches the above average price.

“Wondeful Experience at the CIty Line Hilton”

Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue

After having read a few of the other reviews, I was a little apprehensive about our stay at the Hilton City Line...but, I am happy to say, I was nervous for naught. The hotel was recently renovated, so the issues mentioned previously are not applicable. Our room was CLEAN & new, the lobby was warm and welcoming, the staff was superbly trained and friendly, and the valet service was a big help to a mother of an active 7 month old. I must particularly single out CHANDRA at the front desk for her pleasant professional demeanor, and prompt assistance with all our issues. She truly made our stay special, and we thank her for all her help. The hotel provided a tremendously expansive buffet breakfast, and the chef was more than happy to accommodate my picky omelet requests (one egg yolk, rest egg whites, no oil, etc.). We also ordered room service, and we very pleased with the quality of the food. One aside to hotel management..the old menus in some of the rooms need to be replaced so availability of items are accurately represented. When entering and exiting the hotel, we were always pleasantly greeted by either the concierge, the bellman, or the hotel manager. The always asked if there was anything we needed, and we were grateful for the assistance they provided. We were unfamiliar with the area, and needed instructions, and were promptly helped. On word about the area...this is not in central PHILLY, so be aware when you make the reservation. It is, however, very close to the train line, so you can reach anywhere in Philly via the train. Fortunately for us, it was right around the corner from our in-laws and the university, so the location was perfect. Also, we drove in, and the area was easily accessible by car.

ALL things considered, we were very satisfied and pleased with our stay, and will definitely stay again.

“Just OK....”

Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue

My office team and I stayed at the Hilton City Ave. for a conference being held there. I have to say I was not really that impressed. First of all, the location is not that great. It's a 20 min-20 dollar cab ride to all the "action" in Philly. If you're not familiar with the area the website can be misleading, as it's not walking distance to anything.

The restaurant selection in the immediate area leaves much to be desired as well. The only restaurant you can walk to is a Chili's- we ate lunch there. We ended up staying in for dinner on the second night and ate at Delmonico's. The steaks were awesome and our waiter was great. The Polo Lounge on the other hand was not so good. The staff was downright rude at times, and the food was just OK (my salad had brown lettuce in it).

Some of the hotel staff were friendly, some not so much. Rooms and decor were clean and modern and the beds were really comfy. Oh, the outlet in the bathroom must have some sort of governor on it because my hairdryer ran soooo slow! I was not
a happy camper! I know- petty maybe, but it took me a half hour to dry my hair! I'm a woman, these things are important! :)

Overall, just OK. If you want to see Philadelphia and all it has to offer without going broke on cab rides, don't stay here!! If you have to stay for a conference in the hotel you'll be OK!!

“Loved the Lodging”

Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue

4 of 5 stars

We stayed one night at the Hilton CityLine for an event at the hotel. Friends of ours had blocked a group of rooms for a reduced rate, $149 from $164 for a kingsize bed double occupancy. We would surely stay there again.

The driveup was well staffed by friendly valet who even remembered how we had packed the car the next day on check out; the reception was most helpful and welcoming; less than 3 minutes later we were in our room with our luggage delivered. There is a warm gas fireplace and fresh fruit, plus an oak bar in the lobby. It was a relaxed feeling.

The hotel has undergone a major internal renovation. We had asked for a "new" room just to be sure and indeed it was new. The bed was excellent, with the soft thick down blanket; the bathroom was well stocked with double sinks, a classic desk was in the corner adjacent to the large window looking west; cheap wifi internet access, flat screen lcd tv, modern double cup european coffeemaker, ottoman with leather easy chair was a nice touch, and the blinds were durable to keep out sunlight if we wanted. No one rushed us out in the am and there was a nice looking buffet available which we passed on since we had a brunch event with the party group in a lovely conference room.

There is a pool and exercise room, we did not check either out.

There is a small mini shop in the lobby, and plenty of local options within a half minute drive either direction, and the major highways are close as well, Rt 23 and 76. This is a busy strip, most of Cityline is, but our room was extremely quiet, so we could have been anywhere... You can see the Philly skyline from the parking lot.

Considering the reviews below, positive and negative, I would say that the refurbished hotel deserves a 2nd look by any who missed it, since at this price, you cannot really do better in the area. This place deserves a solid 4 of 5 stars.

“Very Nice Room - Helpful Staff”

Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue

Stayed at the Hilton for 3 nights. The room was spotless with very comfortable bedding. Nice furnishings and single shot coffee/tea maker was great. Love the lounge area for drinks and the breakfast buffet is more than adequate with a nice selection. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Will be staying again this week as it's the only game in the area unless you want to spend more at the sister property next door.
