“Cramped spaces”

Travelodge Motel - Philadelphia

Apr 8, 2008

Room with two double beds; conditions were cramped. Bathroom was too small to fit a washbasin. That was in the room itself. Not enough space to open our luggage. Apart from that, nothing special.

Hotel doesn't have any parking facilities; nearest one is just around the corner, 200 meters away. Parking is pricey though - $20 a day, Patriot Parking.

“No irons available!?”

Travelodge Motel - Philadelphia

Hotel is fine--except that the rooms don't come with iron and ironing board, and when I asked for one at the front desk, the clerk said they were all in use and I'd have to wait until someone returned one. Huh? Maybe....you should buy more irons if you run out of them! So I asked to file a complaint. Well, they're out of complaint forms too (why am I not surprised). So I asked where I could buy an iron; she didn't know but figured it was too late (6:15pm) to find a store that would have them anyways.

So now I have to wake up early, go walk around to find an iron, come back, iron my clothes before my meetings for the day. The lack of a basic amenity and apathetic staff pretty much spoiled my impression of this hotel.

“Travelodge just Okay”

We used Triprewards points for our two night stay in Philadelphia. We stay at quite a few Cendant hotels and had therefore built up quite a few loyalty points. We wanted to visit all the museums downtown so this hotel made for a perfect choice.

We arrived at the hotel at 9:30am (we had an early flight). We were met at the front desk by a pleasant gentleman that was happy to keep our bags for us until a room became available. i asked the clerk when he thought rooms would be ready and he stated that we should return around noon. We returned at 2:20pm to a different clerk. I stated that we would like to check in and she VERY flatly stated that check-in was at 3 and we could not do so sooner. She very rudely stated that her manager said she would get "wrote-up" if she let anyone in sooner.

My wife and I sat in the lobby for about 15 minutes when the owner arrived. He was VERY apologetic when I told him how rudely we had been treated. He immediately gave us a room. It was also funny how nicely the clerk started speaking to us when the owner got involved.

The rooms are VERY small, most, including ours without a window. The entire hotel is very nicely remodeled and our room was no exception. It was clean and very well appointed.

The hotel is located across the street from the convention center and unlike other peoples reviews, we saw no problem with vagrants or homeless people. It is also located just 2 blocks from China town. This hotel is in a good spot and for that reason only (and since it is cheaper) would I reccomend it.

The problem this hotel has is with its staff! Fix that and we would gladly return. It's a shame that more businesses don't understand the value of service anymore!

“Small But Comfy”

This is an excellent hotel for business trips, is near the main historic area and business area.
The only minor flaw I found was that they didn’t have wireless internet and the room was a bit small.
But over all the room was very clean and very well put together.

“Tiny, Noisy, Felt Unsafe”

Travelodge Motel - Philadelphia

Jan 18, 2007
11/11 found this review helpful

My son and I had to make an unexpected overnight trip to the Philadelphia area and booked the Travelodge Philadelphia the day before travel. We stayed at the hotel the night of 16 January 2007. We paid about $96.00, including taxes, for the night.

The Travelodge is located in a convenient location for visiting the city center and is in easy walking distance to the Convention Center, Chinatown, and historic attractions. Unfortunately, the location is also on a dark (at night) street in an unsafe looking area, where I would not have walked outside at night if I had not been accompanied by my son. There were many homeless people hanging out two doors down.

The hotel has no parking on site, but recommends that you park in a 24 hour attended garage about a block down the street on the right just as you enter Chinatown. The garage is clearly labeled Travelodge Parking and the parking (at the time of writing) is $15.00 a day.

The front desk clerk was extremely helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, we got a first floor room (#108), across from the check -in desk. I should have insisted on changing rooms right then, as I knew that a room next to the desk (and there are several of these) was going to be extremely noisy, and I was right. Not only was there noise off and on all night, at 3 am there was a great deal of commotion which resulted in the police being called, who ran around the hotel shouting for over 20 minutes (I never did find out what happened). They then spent several more minutes loudly gossiping with the front desk clerk until I called to complain about the noise and they left.

Our room was TINY, the smallest I've ever stayed in, and that includes hotel rooms in New York City and Europe. There was just room for 2 double beds and there was no closet area. Instead, there was a coat rack which partially hung over one of the beds. The one window gave a view of the hall, so the curtains had to be kept shut all the time, unless you wanted everyone entering the hotel to look right into the room. It was rather like being in a tomb. On the plus side, the room was clean.

Due to the very small rooms, noise level, and unsafe feeling location, I cannot recommend this hotel. I would especially caution single women travelers to stay clear, as it just didn't feel safe there.
