“My stay in Sheraton Philadelphia”

Sheraton University City Hotel

4 of 5 stars
New York
Jul 22, 2008

If you want to stay downtown, this is the place. I was there on my business and had to be all over the area, and everything was on walking distance or public transportation was right there . The Lobby area was very nice and the desk staff polite. Customer service is just great! People are very friendly. They know how to treat their customers.
Room was clean, renovated, modern and a very decent size. I am always very picky about beds, but the Sheraton has some of the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel. Really enjoyed my stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to visitors.

“Typical Sheraton mixed effort”

Sheraton University City Hotel

New York, NY

This hotel is a bargain option for "full service" lodging in shooting distance to downtown Philly, and very well located for Penn, Drexel or the Philly Zoo. The common-area and dining-room vibe is very Holiday Inn. The rooms are spacious but nothing special.

A particular annoyance for late spring -- the hotel has a big business in proms! Those prom kids' deportment leaves a lot to be desired.

“No Complaints!”

I booked this through hotwire and got a relatively good deal, especially with last minute booking on hotwire <$100.

I've stayed here before and it was really good and I loved the area.

Some things to note on your trip here:

1) This is a college area, so If you're a older couple, it probably wouldn't be appropriate for you. Younger couples/singles will love it since it is really a booming college town with Drexel, University of Penn, etc around

2) It is a little ways off from main downtown, thus said you will need a car, or will need to ride the SEPTA (Train/BUS). While you could walk 20 or so blocks most people won't be into doing this.

3) If your'e coming into 30th Street station, then this is a great place for you as it's located only 61/2 blocks away.

4) I'm not sure if this applies to all rooms but I stayed on the 8th floor, and had Internet Access via terminal in my room, so you may not need a computer.

5) The rooms are pretty big, although the bathroom may seem small. It's just a great value for your'e money.

I recommend this for singles, younger couples, and those looking for a quiet get-away. I would not recommend for Older Couples (40's + ) or those who don't like a college atmosphere.

Hope this is helpfull.

“Small room, but overall okay”

Sheraton University City Hotel

May 12, 2008

We got this room for about $100 on Hotwire. We stayed one night and I would say we had an okay stay. Nothing to write home about.
The room was small, but the beds were really comfy. The carpeting was stained, and little things like the wallpaper peeling in the bathroom makes me think this place needs a little remodeling.
They don't use fitted sheets on their beds which is my pet peeve.
A computer was provided in the room with internet access. We didn't have to pull ours out to check the weather and maps, etc., which was nice.
No complimentary breakfast here. Parking is $15. It's an easy drive to the Visitor Center in Center City (another $15 to park there....)
The front desk staff was very friendly, efficient and professional.
The pool was closed (and will be until May 23rd) unfortunately b/c it was really hot and the kids would've loved to swim.
The walls are a little thin - we could hear the people in the next room banging around, but it was quickly resolved when we called the front desk and complained.
Overall, for $100, it was a good stay. But I would've been pretty disappointed if I had paid the going rate of $288.

“Typical Sheraton - Room for Much Improvement”

Sheraton University City Hotel

2 of 5 stars
New York
Apr 24, 2008

We tend to avoid Sheratons and Hiltons. We find them to be overpriced for what they offer. We stayed at the Sheraton University City because of visiting U Penn, a short walk from the hotel.

The check-in was the best part of the stay. The woman who helped us was the most professional and courteous front desk person we ever had.

Supposedly, the hotel was recently renovated. The room had ink stains on the carpeting. The bathroom is small, but adaquate. The coffee maker had stale water in it (we decided not to bother with it after that). There were no tea bags, only coffee (no great loss, I guess, since we weren't going to use the dirty coffeee maker). The linens and towels were fine. Good internet service. The room is large enough for 2 queen beds, but the hotel only offers double beds or kings.

The room was quiet. We faced U Penn, so the views were attarctive. It's conveniently located, with many dining options nearby.

We would grudgingly stay here again if we had to because of the convenience to U Penn, and because the Hilton (which we rate the same as Sheraton) is more expensive. Also, the parking fee at the Sheraton is only $15, while it's $25 at the Hilton. The parking spots were of a good size for our Lexus SUV (contrary to some other comment about the spots being tight).
