My mother and I stayed a total of approximately 14 nights between Jan 08 & Feb 08. My father was in the VA Hospital and we felt this was a safe and convenient place to stay. The nightmare starts with miscellaneous things not working heater- extremely loud- dirty bathtubs- terrible showerheads-corroded with hard water minerals. That was bearable, but the staff is NOT!! My mother left the VA hospital to check into the hotel to leave her bags for the night.and was going back to the hospital. She received a phone call from the doctor on her way to the hotel. She was told my father was not doing well and they didn't think that he would survive. She walked into the Holiday Inn, which she stay out previously at least 12 times in the past month. She was treated with complete disrespect by the manager Mr. Barkley. She wanted to use my credit card to check in which was used many times before without me and they said she could be a thief. I was willing to fax the hotel a letter that authorized them to use my credit card. That was not good enough. I said I would contact the credit card company to give my authorization and that was good enough for Mr Barkley. I even contacted Priority Club which my mother and I are members of. They contacted Mr Barkley and he would not budge.
Well, my mother said oh, there is a money machine in the lobby, I'll get cash to pay you. She walked to the machine and it wasn't working. As she was walking back to the desk, the front desk staff including Mr Barkley were laughing at my mother. She explained to them the dire situation with my father in the hospital and they were not willing to help my mom in any way. She eventually went to the horse race facility across the street and got the cash to pay for the room.
The next day I came down to Philadelphia to be with my mom and presented my credit card and driver license. I asked to speak with Mr Barkley and he told the employee that he was on lunch and when he was through with his lunch he would see me. ( Great customer service huh??) I told the employee that we were going to the room and for him to come to our room or call on the room phone to discuss, the past night situation. HE NEVER DID!! The next morning we went to the front desk to check out and Inez welcomed my mother right away. She knew my mom because of all the nights she stayed there. My mother told Inez of the previous situation and she apologized for Mr Barkley and the staff.
To sum it up my mother ended up being charged for an extra night that she didn't stay there and my father died in the VA Hospital the next day. Please boycott this hotel for my family and yours. Would you want to deal with these kind of people when your going through such a emotional time. Thank you in advance for not using this hotel. Melissa
