“Really good value-especially if you have kids”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

Jul 18, 2008

We were very happy we chose this property. Slightly contemporary motif, vs other embassy's we have been to. Nice decor. Very helpful staff. Location is important to think of here. you are close to the financial center and virtually right on the water. Also, right next to world trade center site. But if you want to be seeing things closer to times square and the Rock, you may want to stay closer--but be prepared to deal with price and noise if you do. From the embassy, you need to walk a bit to the closest subway station --and then several stops to get to times square or city park areas. We were fine with this, given the value and the quiet. Still, very good deal with the hot breakfast -- which was pretty good --and the manager special of drinks and snacks at the end of the day when you get back from sight seeing.

“Great Place to Stay”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

5 of 5 stars
Lewiston, Idaho
Jul 16, 2008

The Embassy Suite Hotel was as expected - Excellent. The room and hotel were the usual great place to stay - good service - clean - friendly - etc, but we were concerned about walking around the area. We thought that being in the Financial District that at night it might be scary - Not at All. We walked around the area, to the subway and had no problems. Our only problem was returning on the subway at 1:00 pm from a Broadway Show our first night and making a wrong exit out of the subway. We walked into the City Hall area - lost and no one would help. We asked a policeman - who spoke broken English and he did not know where the Hotel was and could not direct us, flagged down a taxi and did not have the address so he would not help. At last I was able to flag down another taxi who was not really happy about a small fare but did take us to the hotel.
Other than that - our stay was great. I would recommend the New York ES to everyone.

“Great Base location for a NY trip!”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

We recently returned from a trip to pay homage to Yankee Stadium. Our home base was the Embassy Suites Hotel. I found the rooms to be very clean, bedding comfortable, and lots of room to move around. We were there for 3 days and ate breakfast at the hotel 2 of the 3 days. I can't say that the food we had was a great experience. There is a buffet line and a cooked to order line. Both lines were long and the tables did not seem laid out very well to accommodate traffic everyone seemed to run into each other . There were so many people trying to eat that there was no time to peruse the selection, if you saw something you liked - you better grab it 'cause there is no getting back in line. The quality of the food was very very average. Nothing great at all. I base my above average rating on one of the staff - the concierge I worked with is named Joseph. I must have emailed him 50 times prior to my arrival, he always answered my question as promptly as possible and I never encountered a "I'm too busy " attitude with him. He was full of suggestions on what there was to do and how to get there to do them. He arranged a 4th of July cruise on the Shearwater which is a 100 year old yacht, that was a great time - worth looking into. The hotel itself is located on the Hudson river right by Battery Park. Battery park is a great place to start off ,there is lots of bench room to sit down and figure out your day, or just sit and watch the boats and the statue of liberty. The hotel is also walking distance to Ground Zero to honor the fallen towers. Firestation Station 10 is right across the street. Go buy a t-shirt , the profits go to the widows fund. the highlight of my trip was Yankee Stadium, Yanks beat Red Sox so that made my day. (See pics).
I am from upstate NY originally and my husband is from Chicago - and he had the typical NY 'kers are snobs attitude, but even he said the "everything he had heard about NY had been proved wrong" people were great and so was the city!
We rode the subway and it wasn't too bad, and fairly easy to get us where we had to go.

“Loved Embassy Suites in NYC”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

5 of 5 stars
San Diego
Jul 7, 2008

A waterfront two room suite in Manhattan with free breakfast and free drinks every night? It seems too good to be true, but it's not. We stayed here over Christmas 2004 and got a ridiculously cheap rate, I think $150 - surely it's much more now. We have also stayed at the Doubletree Times Square with HH points - I'd never pay for that hotel at those rates - and I much prefer the Embassy Suites. Sure, it's in lower Manhattan far away from all the tourist things - and the nearest subway station is several blocks away...but you have to be prepared to walk in NYC and get around using the subway. Once you do it, you'll see it's pretty easy. NYC is definitely not a place for the timid anyway.

Free breakfast is standard, like all the ES hotels - but this one has a lovely view of the street with lots of windows. It's also the ONLY ES I've stayed at where they checked your room number as you entered - most are pretty lax about checking and I've stayed at dozens all over the place.

Room is typical for ES although maybe a bit smaller. The minibar is an unwelcome addition and I tried to put jam a soda in there I'd bought elsewhere (being as there was no refrigerator) and a innocent "ding" "ding" came with every attempt. Of course, each time I jostled anything in there, I was charged for minibar items - but these came off the bill very easily when I explained what had happened - they didn't even check. I get the feeling I'm not the only one this has happened to!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Location nice & quiet, lots nearby, waterfront, spacious rooms
    • Disliked — Minibar - I hate them. Far from subway stops.

“Great value for NYC”

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City

3 of 5 stars
Washington DC, District of Columbia
Jun 29, 2008

Was in NY for two nights for business earlier this year. Wanted a good value near battery park. Embassy suites turned out to be a really good find. My only complaint that the location of my room in particular didn't lend itself to very good insulation of the room and I found the middle of the night a bit cold. Very convenient hotel for work that needs to be done in the financial district. Right next to some shops and a movie theater by the World Trade Center site. With the outrageous prices being charged in NY hotels this was a great deal. Found the room impeccably clean and the free breakfast just fine.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — price and convenience to financial district... it was also quiet
    • Disliked — cold room (looked like it was just the design of my room)
