We stayed at the Marriott Ko'Olina resort in in June of 2008 and absolutely loved it! My parents are owners there and they gave us their week to enjoy. It was so beautiful. The rooms were large, clean and luxurious. I loved being greeted at the door during check in. We were asked to go to the Welcome center where we were greeted with Lei's and information on things to do at the resort.
The resort has every activity you would want to do in Hawaii. The resort also has some nice restaurants. We walked down to the JW Marriott near the Lagoon and ate at the Seafood Buffett that they have each Saturday night. It was wonderful.
We have 3 children ranging from 6-13. All of them just loved this vacation. We would definetly recommend families staying here.
I'll post some pictures - check them out if you get the chance.
Have fun!

As a Marriott Vacation Club International Resort owner, we were very happy to have booked at Ko Olina Beach Club. I can't say enough about how awesome this place is. It was just my wife and I celebrating our 10 year anniversary. The room, grounds, beach/lagoon area, and total resort ammenities are great. We loved getting a good lunch and a number of Mai Tai's at Kolohe's bar and grill which is right on the beach. Chucks Seafood and Steaks is also very good and prices were not bad. I like the walkway that goes around all four lagoons in Ko Olina. One way is a mile and a half walk, and was perfect for walking off dinner, or going to explore one of the other lagoons. The JW Marriott is at the other end of the walkway and has several great restaurants. If you like sushi, then Ushio Tei at the JW is a must. There was still some construction going on, but we barely even noticed it. The staff at the resort was great, and you cannot miss the "luau" on Tuesdays called Fia Fia. I say "luau" but it's more of an education show/dinner about Hawaii, and was different than any other kind of luau I'd witnessed. It started at 4:30 and didn't end until 9:30pm. That may seem long, but the time flew by. You will definitely be entertained, and will laugh a lot. I enjoyed this resort so much, we considering going again next year. This may become a tradition with us.

“Good Stay Despite Rain”

Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club

We stayed at Ko Olina in December 2007 (Sorry for the late review). Unfortunately we had three days of rain and clouds so we could not fully enjoy the resort and all it had to offer.
Ko Olina was very far from Honolulu and Waikiki but that was one of the reasons that we chose it. We wanted to experience Oahu but without the hustle and bustle of the city. Because of the rain, there was little to do around the resort so we did do a far bit of driving into the city to keep us busy. If it would have been sunny we would have taken advantage of the beautiful pool and lagoons on the property and probably would not have left much.
We stayed in a mountain view penthouse which was a very nice room and large bathroom. There was a small welcome gift box that offerred a variety of items including popcorn, sample detergent, etc.
We did eat at the pool side restaurant, Kolohe's, for the breakfast buffet and once for dinner. The breakfast buffet was pricy but the omelet station was delicious and we ate enough that we did need to eat lunch. We also ate at the steakhouse which was also expensive but good. The small marketplace at the resort also had a variety of snacks and drinks as well anything you may have forgotten at home.
The property was well maintained but I was a bit disappointed with some of the ponds. Maybe once all the construction is completed they will fill them with Koi. The construction was not an issue during our stay. We did not hear it or really see it but it was just days after Christmas and rained the entire stay.
The pool was nice although too cold during our stay to use. We did use the hot tubs several times.
The JW is the neighbor property and a nice stroll down a beach side path. They had sting rays and beautiful fish in their ponds and were worth the walk to see.
Overall, a great property! We would have liked it more if our weather was better. Oahu was not our favorite Hawaiian island but if we return in the future we would choose this property again.

“A Wonderful Place”

We just got back from one week at the Ko Olina Beach Club. We booked through the 5-day timeshare promotion and I extended it by two days. I also upgraded to a one bedroom villa. That was well worth the extra money. Overall, we loved the place. The property was well maintained and the staff was top notch. We heard absolutely no construction noise the whole time we were there. The lagoons and sunsets are amazing. We spent a lot of time at lagoon 3 (between the Beach Club lagoon and the JW Ihilani lagoon). It seemed the least busy and the snorkeling was the best. My son and I saw two or three different sea turtles in lagoon #2. One was the turtle the resort staff call "lucky." He has only three legs. The first lagoon, near the harbor marina, was the busiest, because it has a public parking lot and is used mostly by the locals. We ate at Roy's, Chuck's and Kolohe's. All were good. Roy's was excellent, but pricey. Our bill for four people was $160. The parking and other amenity's/services were expensive. We expected this going in, and after all, this is Hawaii and you pay a premium for paradise. We did the Ko Olina "Cat" snorkle/dolphin tour. It was very good and I would recommend this. The Mai Ti reception on Monday evening was nice. Also, the Fia Fia show on Tuesday's is fantastic! We were close to buying, but did not. I think I'll look for a timeshare resale and save 50-60%. The one negative that I have to report is that our timeshare presentation was supposed to take 90 minutes. It took 2 hours. I almost left because the sales person would not end the presentation. He was very nice until the end when I said we were not ready to buy. He started pushing pretty hard. I had to really be insistent. I kind of prepared myself for this so it definately did not damper our week there. Overall, we just had a great time and would definately return and recommend this resort to our friends.

“Time Share Promotion Worth It! Great time!”

Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club

4 of 5 stars
Phoenix, Arizona

We are couple in our late 20's and just returned from a 6 day/ 5 night stay at Ko Olina. We were traveling for the purposes of relaxation and were less interested with night life and sightseeing, although we did make it to a few places. Overall, we were very impressed with Ko Olina, I'm hoping this review will be helpful

Rooms: We stayed in the guest room which is the lock off portion of a time share unit. We were traveling on a time share promotion and while it is sometimes possible to upgrade to the one bedroom unit, we were unable to do this. The lock of portion of the unit was just fine. It was spacious, with a queen size bed, seating area wtih couch, end tables, coffee table, chair and TV. There was also a balcony. While you probably won't get an ocean view with this promotion, ask for a room facing some greenery, because "mountain view" may mean you overlook a parking lot. The beds have a plush down comforter, decent sheets and plenty of pillows. Very comfy. There is also a small kitchen type area with a refridgerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and silverware, bottle opener, etc. There are also glass plates, paper towels, etc. The bathroom is a nice size with a curved shower rod for more space in the shower.

Food: Everything is VERY expensive in Hawaii. There is a very limited selection of dining options at Ko Olina. There is a beach side grill (Kolohes), a steak and seafood restaurant (Chucks), a Roy's across the other side of the resort near the golfing, and Azul, fancy/upscale pricy restaurant at the Marriott Ilihani down the way. Our best meal was by far the breakfast buffett offered at Kolohes each morning from 7-10am or so. Its all you can eat for 17.50 and has made to order omelettes, oatmeal, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, waffles with fruit toppings, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties, pastries, bagels, you name it. This was delicious. We also tried the standard Kolohes dinner food and it was okay. Kolohes has an all you can eat buffett on Fri/Sat evenings with crab legs, prime rib, pork tenderloin, lobster pasta, desserts, etc. This was 37 dollars a person, and it was good, but we enjoyed the breakfast more. After our few meals, we went to the local Safeway and stocked up with groceries for the room. We had plenty of room in our fridge for groceries and there are cabinets to store food. This is a great way to travel on a budget b/c dining out at Ko Olina is not cheap. We also tried Duke's in Waikiki - this was delicious, and you must go to Leonard's Bakery in Waikiki to try the Malasadas (a donut), out of this world!

Beach/Pool: Ko Olina has several ocean lagoons (4), we spent most of our time at number 3 as this is where the most activity is. There are beach toys for rental such as snorkel equipment, boogie boards, peddle boats, etc. The beach is well maintained and very pretty. Compared to the Caribbean, it is not nearly as pretty, but the water was clear, sand soft, and its very scenic with the rock piles out at sea. Great place for kids to swim as it is roped off before you get out too far into the ocean and the waters are very calm, no waves. There were always plenty of chairs but no shade. If you walk to lagoon 2 nearer the Ilihani, there are some standing umbrella type things on their beach for shade. You can use any of the four lagoons so I recommended checking them all out as some are more quiet than others. The water was just right. As for the pool, the kids seemed to love it. No slides or anything yet, but I hear that is in the plans.

Service: The staff at Ko Olina are friendly and the service was well above average, it was super. Everyone was kind and willing tto help. The concierges went above and beyond to give you directions and assist with planning activities.

Activities: On Monday night the hotel held a Mai Tai party on the lawn (tickets were given for free at check it), this was great. A time for the guests to mingle, good drinks, and they had BBQ pork sandwhiches and snacks. We also visited the North Shore (I was not impressed) and the Dole Plantation. If you are a pineapple fan, you must visit. This was unique and fun. We went into Waikiki for a day, the beach is crystal blue, and looks quite different from the waters at Ko Olina, very big waves, lots of surfers and sight seeing. Its crowded, but worth a visit to the beach and restaurants on the strip. Once you park, you can walk to just about everything.

Overall, we had a great time. Ko Olina is secluded and not much going on at night, but a short drive to Waikiki will offer more to do if that's what you are looking for. The sales presentation was low pressure and didn't hurt our trip one bit, no big deal. The grounds are beautiful and I liked this hotel much better than the Ilhani (we just visited it for a bit while walking), but ours felt newer and the pool was much nicer for kids. Take walk to the Ilihani and check out the huge sting rays in their waters inside the resort, very cool.
As for the construction, we did not notice it.

I'd be happy to answer questions. Enjoy your trip!
