“Great Accommodations, fun atmosphere”

Royal Lahaina Resort

5 of 5 stars
North Dakota
Jul 19, 2008

We were in Maui to Get Mauied and our travel agent helped us pick out a hotel. The hotel had undergone major rennovations just prior to our stay, and most of the reviews pre-rennovation were not good so we were nervous about staying at the Royal Lahaina. The hotel ended up being beautiful. We were upgraded to an ocean view room, although it seemed like we would probably be able to see the ocean from any room they could have given us. The room overlooked the luau grounds so we could see and hear the festivities from our balcony. The staff was always friendly. The property has 2 pools, but we never did use them because we were too busy exploring the island. The beach is OK...but a little narrow. I was disappointed that there was no boardwalk to walk along the length of the beach, there was also zero lighting on the beach so it felt unsafe at night. There is great snorkeling to the west of the property-about a 5 minute walk. The breakfast buffet is good, but pretty expensive. The biggest complaint of the whole experience was the parking. You had a pay $10 a day to park and they squeeze as many parking spots as they can into the lot. Bigger people probably wouldn't even be able to get out of the vehicle the spots were so tight. Everyone got door dings. If you came back to the hotel late at night you would have to park a long ways away because of all the luau guests.
Overall this hotel gets a big thumbs up! Don't forget to bring cash for the bellmen that INSIST on bringing your luggage up to your room.

“The Royal Lahaina Our Home away from home”

Royal Lahaina Resort

Jul 18, 2008

It's hard to put into words the Aloha spirit that the Royal Lahaina has, from your first greeting of welcome home to we look forward to your return. We decided to give R L a try last year we were a little apprehensive until we saw our room, from the custom made furniture to the beautiful ocean view everything was simply Hawaii. We fell in love with the R L , it is a laid back Hotel not over crowded, the beach is the best ,you can actually relax and enjoy your surroundings. The staff has a excellent Aloha spirt and very accomadating. We had one of the guard shack personell check us in with a big smile and with the greeting of welcome home. Hawaii is our favorite place to vacation this was our 7th trip and have already booked our trip for next year, but it's the hospitality of Hotels like this one that make you want to come back to home year after year. God Bless and Aloha until we meet again

“Treated Like Royalty at the Royal Lahaina Resort”

Royal Lahaina Resort

Jul 13, 2008

We stayed at the RL on june 8 -15. We arrived very late from a long flight from texas (and after encountering a very rude rental car clerk). The Bellman, Steve greeted us and the smiling checkin clerk made us feel better immediately! We had a oceanview room and found it to be excellent. The beds were comfty and the room was spotless. The remodeling was well designed with beautiful wood beds , shutters, large LCD tv, frig, safe and large shower. I thought the size of the room was large for the money and each day it was cleaned very well. My daughter enjoyed the shampoos and soaps (coconut )that were left each day! The view of the ocean was priceless!

The beach is not crowded and the snorkeling was great . The walk to whalers village is so relaxing and there is a small mall. "the fairway" with great shave ice and CJ's deli. the grounds were beautiful also with lots of beautiful flowers, trees, birds and pools. We enjoyed the hotel luau on the grounds , good drinks and food. It was a perfect week at the RL, the entire staff was always friendly and helpful. Each time we returned to the parking lot, the clerk always said "welcome Home" which really was a nice touch and he really meant it! They made us feel like royalty because they treated us GREAT! The week ended with a outside viewing of the movie "Enchanted" . (they even supplied the popcorn) under the stars listening to the ocean and movie. It truely was an enchanted week at the RL. We hope to return again one day!

“Royal Lahaina Cottages not so Bad, for a Family.”

Royal Lahaina Resort

3 of 5 stars
San Jose, CA
Jul 12, 2008

After hearing so many bad things about the cottages at the RL I was very concerned to say the least. Im not sure what the expectations of the other reviewers but our family of 6 had a great time. They gave us three connecting rooms and everyone had enough space. The staff was helpful and if we needed anything to get set up for our 11 day stay, they brought it right away. We were not right on the beach but it took three minutes to walk to a nice beach to find shells and swim all day and another 10 minute walk to Kaanapali shore for awesome snorkling. I know they are tearing these down soon and so if you want a good deal and money to spend on activities (we were busy with activities 6 days out of the 11) check it out we reallly had a great time.
I highly recomend for a very nice but expensive meal, Mama's Fish house in Paia in the Kuau Cove - gorgous views and delicious Mai tai's great fish. For cheap grinds with the kids try Moose McGillycuddy's in Lahaina along Front Street. They boast a full menu at really, I mean really, reasonable prices as well as a full bar happy hour, any drink $3.00. Nice! Good ambiance as well.
Overall, our stay way memorable and relaxing. Not luxurious or upscale, but if you are on a budget but want to have fun try the RL

“Almost perfect hotel!”

Royal Lahaina Resort

4 of 5 stars
Riverside, CA
Jul 10, 2008

Me and two others had reserved a garden cottage and was disappointed when we arrived. The hotel had done a typical 'hotel thing' and overbooked the cottages. They offered us 'upgraded tower rooms with an ocean view'. We decided to take this. Other than the room being merely a PARTIAL ocean view, it was wonderful! The room and grounds were immaculate and the staff was very helpful. I also liked the fact that the hotel had their own beach - not too crowded at all.

My only criticism I have...constructive really - not a complaint...is that there is a design flaw in their sink mirror area. It's the lighting and the fact that most of the mirrors are sunk too deep away from you and the light to look closely at your face. (which may be a good thing after a night of Maitai's!) Males had trouble seeing close enough for a good shave, and I couldn't see well enough to apply makeup very well. One of those magnified mirrors would help that without ruining the decor much. Just a suggestion!!!
