This was my first visit to the Islands so I may not be judging fairly, although I have traveled many places around the globe. I feel that this was a terrific value for the $. Following are the goods and bads in my opinion. I felt that the GARDEN AREA was fantastic- traditional-coy pond two standard pools, 2 spas walking trails that travers the area. I'm understanding that they may be removeing some of this for an up-to-date swimming park; I hope not. Next on the list of good things was the at RESORT SHOPPING--They have several small stores on the lower level which include everything from groceries to clothing. All items were very competivly priced. There is shopping across the street but the prices are about the same although drinks were cheeper across the street. The last good value, was the RESORT RESTURANT. The food as compared to other high end resturants was fantastic-everything from fresh fish-n-chips to catch-of-the-day with fresh veggie and 5 star sauces--the price, better than outside resturants. burgers to fancy meals, 11 to 25 $. We eat out several times but we seemed to always go back to the resort resturant.
Sorry to say there were some issues with our stay. First, our room was in the (left side as view facing the beach) wing of the resort (7th floor); garden room. It had a nice view of the beach that was a plus, but the AC DID NOT FUNCTION the entire time--no biggy as the room had a small window on the parking lot side and a very large lani sideing door window on the garden/beach side. The problem was the NOISE. The noise on the pool side just echoed between the two wings, and for whatever reason the parking lot noise just seemed to jump into that small window; not sure why. Second not so good item was the beach. It was OK to average, but from the water line out was mixed rocks with sand. You must have water shoes and watch the knees; you will come back with skin up knees. It's fine if you just want to wade to cool off, but forget body suring and be careful if boogie boarding. The last item of issue was our arrangements for a suttle ride back to the airport. Sam (bellman), did great job arranging a taxi van for what they call the "SUTTLE RATE". The problem was that instead of the quoted price of $75.00 for four adults at the end of the 40 minute drive, the driver (who by the way was not the registered licensed person), tried to charge us $94.10. He claimed the he didn't understand english. We even asked him when we got in the van that this was going to be $75--he just knodded. When we got to the airport, it was not until I took his hand-held radio and tried to contact his boss before he excepted the $75. It seemed to us that he was using some elses van and was trying to get the metered rate instead of the quoted rate. Lesson learned verify with your driver before you load up, the actual cost of the shuttle. Other than that I would stay here again but I'd more chosey about the room location.

Aloha! It was great to hear that these guests, like so many others took advantage of and enjoyed the resort amenities offered right on property at Ka'anapali Shores.
We have installed a brand new A/C system throughout the resort in 2008, so perhaps this the unit in this particular room did not get installed properly.
We have more than 50,000 visitors each year that spend time in the ocean without incident. We were disappointed to read that these folks were an exception to the norm. One of the things that makes our beach so popular with divers and snorkelers is the beautiful reef formations and fish that frequent them. As is true of every beach, one will want to be cognizant of the height of the "tide" if one chooses to boogie board or body surf.
Our Bell department staff are only allowed to call licensed, reputable shuttle services. We will research this incident and report it to the company involved to ensure against similar, future occurrences.
Mahalo for sharing!
