Spent 5 nights in Maui. Small Island of Hawaii, easily accessible with a rented car. Hotel rooms comfortable but small bathroom. Car parking limited. Self parking not well signposted, but when found certainly better than Valet parking.
Swimming pool good, but may be overcrowded during peak seasons. The Beach is very narrow. 5 minutes drive from Lahaina centre and "Safeways" for groceries.
Hotel Luaau was on special offer (2 for 1). Not really worth it at full price, but acceptable at the reduced price.
Drove to Hana - very windey road which gives you a headache. Not much in Hana to do! Also drove up to the volcano crater, very picturesque. Overall good holiday for those that windsurf!

“bad honeymoon”

We stayed here for 6 nights on our honeymoon, before going to the Kauai Hyatt (what a difference!!).

The parking sucked. The self park lot was always full at night b/c of the 2 luau's they have on property. The spots are SO close together that I noticed everyone (incuding us) had to have the passenger exit the car and THEN pull into the spot. 4 star? They have complimentary valet parking until 11pm which no one knew about it seemed, but you still have to tip them for that, which adds up when you do it every day muliple times per day.

Our rental car was broken into our first day of our honeymoon and all of our credit cards, cash, ATM cards, IDs, the works were stolen. I immediately went to the front desk and was offered no help. He told me to dial 911 from the room and that our "resort fee" would cover the charge for that. I asked if I could use the internet for the day to get our CC numbers to cancel and he said SURE! "We have a wonderful business center" and when I confirmed he told me that you just needed to put a CC in to make it work. Whaaaaaaat?! I went to the room and called 3 different times to the front desk before I finally got someone who would give us the internet for free for one day so we can deal with our huge emergency. I expected MUCH more when we were paying over $500 a NIGHT for a hotel.

Breakfast buffet was included but the birds were disgusting, the lines were about 1/2 hr long after 8am, and the tip wasn't included! The waitstaff merely pour your coffee... its not worth the tip!

I too had low expectations after reading reviews. If we had paid the prices on the hotel website I may have been a bit disappointed. I booked 4 nights through Hotwire for $212 per night, then we paid an additional $50 per night to upgrade to an ocean view when we arrived (I tried to get a free upgrade....but no go). We self-parked, which worked out great and is free! I agree....the rooms, mainly the bathrooms do need updating to Hyatt standards, but were clean. Grounds are beautiful. We never had a problem getting a place by the pool, and compared to the Sheraton the pool was really nice and clean. They also have the cushioned lounge chairs....which is a big deal to me. My husband and I both thought the pool food was really good. All staff we encountered were really nice.

Overall a great stay and would stay again, assuming we got a good deal again. For people willing to pay top dollar, your money goes a lot farther at the Four Seasons in Wailea.....which is absolutly fabulous in every way.

“Loved Maui, won't stay here again”

The grounds are gorgeous, but beauty is only skin deep at this place. Firstly- it's billed as a 4 star hotel with the prices to match. They charge you for everything- internet access, a crappy "cabana" on the beach ($40 per day) and by Cabana, I mean 2 attached beat up wooden deck chairs with old mats and a beat up cover to pull up to keep out of the sun. The watchdogs that patrol the "cabanas" are quite abrupt stalking over to you repeatedly and asking "did you pay to use this?" and they'll do it several times during your use of them, a different person each time. I've stayed at a comfort inn in bumshoe, GA that offers more freebies (including high-speed internet) than this place did.

What absolutely horrified me the most were the COCKROACHES IN THE FOOD. We had vouchers for complimentary breakfast every morning in the pavillion which is the casual, partially outdoor buffet area. On tuesday morning, our second day there I opened up the bread bin to pull out a couple of pieces of bread for toasting and when I took the first piece, cockroaches scattered from the bin. I nearly threw up, and was pretty shaken. I told the staff in the restaurant about it and they threw the bread away, but didn't seen to shocked about it. Needless to say, we wouldn't eat in there again. I also told the front desk about it, and they sent a mgr out who was rude and abruptly told us the dining manager would see us about it and walked away. The dining room mananger was quite concerned about what happened, and thanked us for saying something and told us to use the Swan Court breakfast area for the remainder of our stay, which we did twice, but were really leery about doing so.

Another really unsanitary thing is the birds that are all over the place in both the pavillion and swan court. While the hot foods are covered, the pastries and fruit, nor the serving spoons are not. they have birds ALL OVER THEM constantly, and while the birds are quite cute, they're still dirty. The sit on the spoons and pick food off them, they drop their feathers in the food, they sit all over the tables, the chairs, there's [--] on the walls, etc. It's really unsanitary and the staff just says "oh well, there's nothing we can do about it"

Well, I can...I won't be staying here again.

“Not worth the Price, but OK”

This hotel was OK, just OK. The scenery is nice. They have swans on the grownds, and a bunch of exotic birds.

Be careful, they are currently doing construction in the hallways, and you will smell paint thinner, spackle, paint, etc, and see large equipment outside your door if you go there now. This is not acceptable. I am only giving them the 2 stars because of the nice birds. They were full when I got there, so they didn't really care about me since I am only a gold member.

This hotel is not recommended. I was just there on my honeymoon, and you can get a better value at one of the hotels next door. Feel free to contact me for recommendations based on what your interests are.

Also breakfast was included, but the tip wasn't. They're not as good as starwood or hilton. I just found that distasteful since we paid so much for the room. The beach chairs on the ocean aren't even included, you must reserve them.

The beach in front of the hotel has rough water. Do not swim there, walk 1/2 mile on a path to the real beach at Whalers Village, or stay at the Sheraton 1/2 mile away on a beautiful private beach.
