Just got home late last night from Easter week in Kauai -- I can still hear the ocean and feel the warm sun as if I were still sitting on the lawn outside our condo at Poipu Kapili. It was an amazing trip. Unit #55 is probably the nicest one in the whole condo development. There are others that are not rented through the management company (#51 on the edge of the big open grass looked really nice because the occupants get the benefit of windows and grass all around, and it's rented privately and was way less expensive than what we paid for #55). As the reviewer below noted, though, unit #55 has been recently rennovated and is just beautiful. Very classy. My inlaws were with us and they rented unit #6. Yuck is all I can say. Some of the furnishings in #6 were ok -- the guest bedroom has a very cool canopy bed. But it just didn't compare to how nice our #55 was. The construction on the island sucks. That can't be avoided. It's everywhere. Beautiful mountain views are obscured by gross netting that the developers put up everywhere. Small, quaint, quiet Koloa is soon to have a giant shopping mall directly across the street. The old quiet slow pace of Kauai will soon be a thing of the past. But for now, even with the construction, it's still like it has always been and is less commercial than other islands. We also ate at Plantation Gardens a couple of times, once with a group of 9, and it was wonderful. Just what we were looking for. Oh and the luau at the Sheraton was amazing! The dancers and the emcee Dickie Chan put so much effort into that show and the result was just first class. Even my 6 and 8 year old kids were entranced.
