“Incredible Unit #55 !”

Poipu Kapili

Just got home late last night from Easter week in Kauai -- I can still hear the ocean and feel the warm sun as if I were still sitting on the lawn outside our condo at Poipu Kapili. It was an amazing trip. Unit #55 is probably the nicest one in the whole condo development. There are others that are not rented through the management company (#51 on the edge of the big open grass looked really nice because the occupants get the benefit of windows and grass all around, and it's rented privately and was way less expensive than what we paid for #55). As the reviewer below noted, though, unit #55 has been recently rennovated and is just beautiful. Very classy. My inlaws were with us and they rented unit #6. Yuck is all I can say. Some of the furnishings in #6 were ok -- the guest bedroom has a very cool canopy bed. But it just didn't compare to how nice our #55 was. The construction on the island sucks. That can't be avoided. It's everywhere. Beautiful mountain views are obscured by gross netting that the developers put up everywhere. Small, quaint, quiet Koloa is soon to have a giant shopping mall directly across the street. The old quiet slow pace of Kauai will soon be a thing of the past. But for now, even with the construction, it's still like it has always been and is less commercial than other islands. We also ate at Plantation Gardens a couple of times, once with a group of 9, and it was wonderful. Just what we were looking for. Oh and the luau at the Sheraton was amazing! The dancers and the emcee Dickie Chan put so much effort into that show and the result was just first class. Even my 6 and 8 year old kids were entranced.

“A Very Pleasant Surprise!”

Poipu Kapili

My husband and I spent a week in unit #48 Poipu Kapili. We had read some negative comments about the Turtle Cove property - which is owned by the same person as the Kapili unit- on Travel Advisor. After talking with the owner and addressing some of these negetive comments we decided to try the Kapili suite. It was the best equipped condo that we have used in 30 years- great kitchen - lacking nothing . Great dishes, glasses, pots/pans - very nice- beautiful art, many many "extras "- beach chairs, plentiful towels/ linens and much much more. . It is located just across the street from one of the best beaches on the island near the Sheraton Hotel and only a little more than a mile from the wonderful old historic town of Koloa. The grounds are immaculately maintained. The unit was exceptionally clean and well furnished. Although the unit is "a one bedroom" - 6 could easily be comfortable with two pull out beds in the very large livingroom and 2 very spacious bathrooms. We had been "warned" about construction and LARGE construction it is! - but is certainly was not a problem except to navigate around a confusing "detour" sign near the property. Thank you for a wonderful week on the "sunny side" of Kauai! Hope we can return. We are anxious to return before the extended developement that is in the planning "turns" the quiet piece of paradise into a more commercial area.

“Unit 55 was fantastic for a family vacation”

Poipu Kapili

The Poipu Kapili is a great choice for a family vacation. Unit 55 (visible on their site) has been recently remodeled. Ocean is so close it is LOUD at night. Great bedrooms, bath, modern kitchen, living room. Three flatscreens. Fast and free WiFi.

We ate breakfast in, lunch on the road, and dinner out. The Sheraton Beach is a 5 min walk and the Kiahuna Restaurants a 10 min walk. Dive Kauai recommended for Scuba. Best restaurants: Beach House, Plantation Garden, Casablanca, Pomodoro.

BTW, for those with lingering Iniki concerns -- the island is fully recovered. Main difference is that there are now chickens everywhere -- many more than before 9/11/92.

“Loved Poipu Kapili #51!”

Poipu Kapili

I cannot imagine a better location on Kauai then Poipu Kapili, or a better location at Poipu Kapili than Unit 51. It’s a corner unit with a lawn between it and the next buiding, and it’s closest to the ocean, which you can see from either of the two patios. If there’s a shower, there’s usually a rainbow right outside the window. Take a glass of wine and sit outside to watch the sunset. Walk to the beach, or to Spouting Horn. Enjoy the flowers and the roosters. I’ve read the negative review about the construction noise, and yes, you can hear it – but it didn’t bother me, and it doesn’t start really early. I slept VERY well. My two traveling companions had been here before, and did notice the increased traffic on the road right in front of the unit (due to a detour because of the construction), but to me it just seemed like ordinary traffic. This unit had everything we needed for comfort and enjoyment, including much appreciated fresh tropical flowers and a bottle of Hawaiian wine on our arrival. The owner checked in to make sure everything was going well, which was also appreciated. Our two week visit was wonderful, and I can't wait to come back!

“Poipu Kapili Will not Disappoint”

Poipu Kapili

Feb 17, 2008

I just completed an 8 day stay at Popipu Kapili which was delightful. The staff is excellent and willing to assist in any way possible. The condos are a very short walk from the Sheraton Hotel which has a wonderful beach and all the amenities that a hotel of that caliber has to offer.

The Kapili property was impeccably maintained and the pool was cleaned and service every day. Perhaps the most surprising highlight was the peacefulness and quiet. I was directed to this property by the reviews posted on Trip Advisor and became concerned with all the reviews citing the construction noise. There was absolutely no disturbance. The only construction noise was from behind the condo complex where they are building new condos. However, they respected the workday schedule and it posed no problem.

I booked what was described as the Penthouse which had an ocean view from the third floor of the three story complex. In all honesty, I beliveve the term "Penthouse" is somewhat misleading. At least in my mind, I was expecting above average accomodations and amenities and I have to say the 2BR/2BA condo we were in was simply average in that regard, It was large, it was spacious, it had a wraparound lanai which was accessible from each room and in actuality it was fine. However, it needed updating, the carpet could have been cleaned, and the amenities upgraded. I would say there was nothing to distinguish this condo from perhaps the regular 2BR at a lower rate. To make this truly a "Penthouse" accomodation, more should be done to it.

Other than that, expect a wonderful, relaxing experience at this property and all that Poipu section of Kauai has to offer. Do not miss dinner at the Beach House Restaurant at sunset--it cannot be beat and it is a short ride or walk from the condo. The staff recommended it and they will direct you. It was tremendous.
