It has taken me a long time to post this review (we took our honeymoon in January 2008), perhaps because I don't know where to begin! We loved our stay at Volcano Village Lodge! We also enjoyed our time on Oahu and Maui, but the highlight of our two week vacation was definitely our stay at VVL. We noted that other reviewers regretted the fact that they only had a short stay at VVL, so we booked 5 nights in the Hale Manaluna suite (at the time it was named Hale Mahina).
At first we were a little nervous that our suite would be louder/have less privacy than the others because it is attached to the main Hale. Not once did we find this to be a problem. The property is small and intimate, the guests are few (only five suites), and Kay are her staff worked like magical elves. We were very pleased with our suite, and after a quick tour of the others (when the other guests had checked out), we decided that Hale Manaluna was indeed our favorite.
Aside from the beauty of VVL, the breakfasts were delicious and we found that we had enough left over to pack a snack/light lunch for our hiking adventures later in the day. They even provided soy milk for my husband since he is lactose intolerant. My parents also worked with Kay to organize a private chef-prepared dinner in our room one night to celebrate. It was a nice romantic touch and the food was wonderful.
We found everything about VVL to be fantastic and truly enjoyed our stay. Not only would we highly recommend it, we definitely plan to visit when we return in the future.
