Feeling nostalgic for your long lost youth? Book a room at this motel, and you'll knock 30 years off your age, because you'll think you're still in the 1970's. I know I did. I wish I'd kept my bell bottoms. The facts:
This property commands rates that are actually sometimes higher than the much superior neigbouring Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Howard Johnson hotels. I found staff to be friendly, but that was about the only positive aspect of my stay. The property is a warren of corridors and stairwells that haphazardly connect the two wings. It appears the original design had outside corridors, but at some point they closed them all in. Good idea for winter, but in the heat of summer, the room A/C units expell their hot exhaust into them and they become swelteringly hot. You really could use a map to find your way to any part of the property other than rooms sharing the same corridor. Invariably, you end up going outside and entering via the lobby. Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs ... even if you're on the first floor. There are no elevators, and the pool and deck areas are below the main floor due to hotel's being situated on a slope.
My "premium" room, was large, and the A/C worked, but the bathroom fixtures, sink, toilet and tub appeared to be at least voting age. I haven't seen a harvest gold tub for decades. There was a bit of mold on the tub surround, but nothing too alarming. The microwave and mini-fridge (not available in all rooms) were handy, but I couldn't get the free high speed wi-fi to work due to its weak signal. Furniture, bedding and a comfortable recliner armchair were the best features of the room. Carpeting was clean with no visible stains. There was a small balcony with a couple of dirty plastic deck chairs, but the outdoor carpet was ragged and barely hid the rotting plywood flooring underneath (due to the dripping A/C unit). Overall, it is an overiding lack of maintenance that diminishes the value of this hotel.
The free breakfast was the typical cold barebones fare prevalent in most budget hotel/motel properties. Hot beverages, juice, milk, cereal, breads and a bit of fruit, but no waffle maker or hard-boiled eggs.
The indoor pool and outdoor deck areas were pleasant, but in need of maintenance and a bit more upkeep.
The Travelodge is probably the weakest link in the Cendent chain's Burlington area properties. I had a particular reason for staying at this motel, otherwise I'd have chosen to stay elsewhere. I didn't expect much and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
