“Good service and decent hotel though problems!”

Hilton Houston Southwest

Having stayed in many Hilton properties over the course of my life, I have come to expect a certain standard from their hotels. Unfortunately, the Hilton Houston Southwest does not completely live up to the Hilton name and has much room for improvement. I recently stayed in the hotel over one weekend for a conference but had several problems with the hotel.

PROS:
1) Location - the hotel is located right alongside Highway 59 and is close to the I-610 loop and Galleria area. Therefore, the hotel makes for a very convenient central base in order to reach other parts of the city, as Houston and its suburbs are quite spread out.
2) Service - the best thing the Hilton has going for itself is its service. From the fantastic night manager to the very attentive Desert Rose restaurant staff, everyone I encountered tried their best to make my stay pleasant despite the problems.
3) Standard room and free internet - my room(s) had all the standard features of a Hilton though I wish they would upgrade to two queen beds instead of two double beds, which are too small.

CONS:
1) Maintenance - the hotel definitely has problems with upkeep and maintenance. On my first night, the air-conditioning was not properly functioning, and since there is no night duty electrician or engineer, I was moved to another room. However, in my second room, the locks were broken and the latch was coming off its hinges, so half the time, the door would not close properly. Finally, I was moved to a third room and comped free breakfast. However, this is still unacceptable, especially from a Hilton property.
2) Cleanliness - even though the hotel has had a recent renovation, it's showing signs of premature wear and tear, such as carpet stains and paint peeling. The room bathrooms (I saw three of them) already have mildew stains in the showers. Plus, I saw a cockroach or two running through the corridors, which was just the icing on top of a disappointing stay.

Overall, if the upkeep and maintenance of the hotel could be brought up to its same level of staff service and friendliness, then this would be a fantastic Hilton property. Until then, it has a long way to go.

“Good, not great”

Hilton Houston Southwest

Jun 10, 2008

We went to this place on our first night of being married. We decided to come back. Was not where near as impressed. We may have had Rosy colored glasses on 2 years ago.

Front Desk Night Auditor was nice. She was the only person I saw from the hotel, but she made a good impression.

The elevators were fine.

The hallways were dimly lit, and I felt very loud walking down them, though I was trying to be as quiet as I could be. The hallways were clean.

The room was clean. The only downside was the ac was on and off all night. It became very hard to breath at times. We did have a smoking room, so the room kept getting hotter and hotter. The ac also had the ugly carved wooden box thing on top of it.

We still had fun, loved the bedding.

We got the room for $50.00.. (using hotels.com mistake of $50.00 off any hotel room for platinum members heh heh)

Great room, great value. Renting a movie was $15. Even at a 4star hotel its only 8-12. Anyway, great stay.

“Good stay, good service, good value”

Hilton Houston Southwest

4 of 5 stars
Albuquerque
Apr 3, 2008

My son and I stayed here to attend the NCAA Basketball South Regionals. His wife got an excellent rate for us by prepaying. While not a luxury property, I found the hotel to be perfectly comfortable, quiet and clean, with attentive service and none of the problems mentioned in older reviews Our 3rd -floor room was good-sized with comfy beds, easy chair, and desk. The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels and the usual toiletries. At first I thought there was no hair-dryer, but found it in the closet.
Breakfast was not included, but there was an ample buffet for $11 in the restaurant, where we also had a good lunch one day.
There is a small gift shop (which seemed to run out of newspapers too soon) and a car rental desk on site.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel and spent a very relaxing weekend here.

This hotel needs a little TLC. Possibly some updating, and I was not at all impressed with the service I have come to expect from Hilton hotels.

“Very nice stay”

Hilton Houston Southwest

Really enjoyed my stay here even if it was just for one night on business. The room was large and clean with a nice large flat-screen television and a nice, large desk for computer workspace.

Bathroom was well lit and decent sized with Evelyn and Crabtree products making for a pleasant experience as well.

The staff was helpful and very accommodating, especially those who worked in the hotel's restaurant. Only problem was checking out the next morning and just one person working the desk during "rush hour." They need to work on that a bit but otherwise this was a really nice stay.
