Marblue Villa Suites

We stayed in a Veranda Suite at Marblue for 2 nights in late April and would recommend this hotel to those who like boutique style properties and a peaceful relaxed atmosphere. Our room was on the top floor with a lovely view overlooking the pool and sea. The room had a bedroom with a very comfortable king sized bed and extra cushions, then through a (lockable) door there was a lounge type area with sofa bed, with just a heavy curtain separating this from the balcony. A great place to relax, enjoy the breeze, the view and complimentary cocktail on arrival! Both rooms had ceiling fans, and the bedroom had an air conditioning unit. A map of the local area is provided, marking out the various accommodation and eating options, which is very useful, along with a list of excursions available. The owners will call Treasure Tours on your behalf, who will make the actual arrangements and confirm to you.
Breakfast was excellent, with a menu provided to select from. We had their “splendid” breakfast included in our rate, which included tea or coffee, fresh fruit, orange juice, omelette (or eggs however you like them), bacon, and French toast or pancakes or plain toast. Axel’s omelettes were particularly good, as was the French toast!
We also ate one evening in their restaurant, which is in a very nice setting in the grounds, overlooking the sea (you could also eat in your room on request). Axel handwrites a daily menu depending on what is available locally. We enjoyed a prawn cocktail and lobster bisque as starters (12USD), followed by coconut prawn curry and butterfish (25USD). They offer wine but only red or white, so we took our own bottle of rose which they very kindly allowed us to drink at no charge. The food overall was excellent.
Marblue is in a good location to walk to other establishments – Jakes and Jack Sprats are a 10min walk for eating, and Dougie’s Bar at Jakes is an excellent spot to watch the sunset (Marblue is around the corner and doesn’t have the same view). If you walk out of Marblue’s beach gate and walk to the left for 5mins, in front of JaJa Villa there is a very nice cove with calm water where you can paddle/swim/float. Directly in front of Marblue itself it is rocky and not suitable for swimming.
We booked a boat trip to Black River to see the crocs and back via Pelican Bar through Treasure Tours, and were taken in a local fishing boat from the beach round the corner by a guy called Peck. The benefit of this is that it is just you and the local boat guys so the trip can be tailor-made. The fishing boat can also go further up Black River than the big tourist launches which can’t get under a bridge. We saw a couple of crocs in the lower reaches, and had a swim and a snack lunch of stuffed crab-backs further up, before heading back out to sea for a cool off stop (paddle and rum punch/beer) at Pelican Bar – heaven! Highly recommend this trip which cost USD120 for the 2 of us, leaving 9.30am and returning around 2.30pm – just don’t forget your suntan lotion/hat as no shade on the boat! There are plenty of other scenic spots in the area: Lovers Leap, Alligator Pond for lunch at Little Ochie, Alligator Hole, the deserted beach at Long Bay for collecting shells, but you really need a car to visit these.
Overall we spent a very enjoyable couple of nights, with very welcoming hosts in Andrea and Axel and loved the relaxing feel to the area around Treasure Beach. We have already recommended the hotel to friends who are now staying this weekend!

I decided to forgo the popular Jake's and try out MarBlue. I was very impressed - so much so that I want to go back tomorrow, hang out by the pool, and eat and drink the wonderful food served here. The rooms are immaculate - beautifully decorated and designed. There are 2 pools with the water nearby (a decent swimming beach is a 2 minute walk away). The place is pretty mellow so if you are looking for a rowdy happy hour head over to Jake's - and then come back to enjoy Axel's fresh fish. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming and have done a great job with this place. I look forward to coming back.

“great birthday retreat”

I decided to spend my birthday weekend at Marblue Domicil and 12 of my friends accompanied me. It was perfect, not only the hotel but the ambience and allure of Treasure Beach.
The staff were attentive and the food great. Breakfast was a real treat, course after course of local and traditional items and the pineapples were ooh so ooooo sweet.
Captain Denis took all of us on a boat ride up the Black River and gave us the adventure of a lifetime . We rested at a shop on the river bank and had freshly baked crabback . Afterwards we ventured out to sea to the Pelican bar for a few rounds of ice cold Red Stripe beer. This is a man made wooden structure in the middle of the ocean on a white sand bank. My American guests were thrilled beyond belief.
I would return to Marblue at the drop of a pin. Thanks Axel, Andrea, Tommy, Elisha, Cheryl , Claudette, Devane, Dashel and of course our Chef, the indomitable ' Preacher'

“Return to Marblue”

Hi to everyone at Marblue - and thank you all so much for another fantastic visit.

We stayed at Marblue in November 2005 and wrote a review after that visit. We returned to stay for a week in April 2007. Since staying here in 2005 I have travelled alot but have not found anywhere as welcoming, relaxing and stylish without being at all pretentious. I was very surprised to find that staying at Marblue a second time was even better - I would not have thought this was possible!

Our welcome was lovely - like old friends and made us feel very special. As I wrote in my last review, the hotel is small, personal, stylish and excellent food. A private plunge pool (which is larger than I envisaged) was a fantastic addition to our room. There is private space to sunbathe around the plunge pool and a fab seat built into a corner which was perfect for reading whilst sitting waist deep in the pool.

Andrea and Axel have also built a bar and restaurant by the beach. It is a very relaxed environment and we felt quite overwhelmed by the stunning views over the beach and the sea whilst we ate. For some reason this was particularly remarkable at breakfast - and makes for a very peaceful start to your day. The food, as ever, was first class. Axel loves to create and often talked about ideas for the menu for the following day. He likes to take account of personal likes and dislikes along with what fresh produce is available. The menu really is created on that basis - handwritten each day.

Thank you all so much for making this another fantastic visit. We have never returned to the same hotel on holiday before and cannot wait to come back again. You have created something very special.

“Private Luxury”

Marblue Villa Suites

My wife and I went down to Jamaica for our honeymoon in January of 2006. The idea of having a mass produced vacation wasn't what we wanted, we wanted to stay in a nice place but long lines and buffets were not our cup of tea. We chose to stay in a couple of places including Marblue and Tensing Pen.

Marblue is really really nice. We stayed in one of the Verandah suites and it was great. When we showed up there was a botttle of complimentary champagne, the food was always exceptional and the hotel was spotless. When we were there we were the only guests (which was odd since I am not used such a high level of service) but I am sure that Marblue will soon be one of those places where it will be impossible to find an open room. We always went with the suggested meals and the food was really really good. Make sure you try a traditional breakfast.

While we were in Treasure beach we wandered the streets visiting local bras and restaurants and never felt unsafe and we were also never solicited for stuff. This was really nice, it made us feel like were were almost local and that our Jamaica experience was "more real" then the all-inclusive mega-resorts.

The beach was rocky and the waves crashed in front of the hotel so there was no swimming close to the hotel in the sea but the hotel did have 2 small clean pools and were amused by an angry little crab in the rocks.

Captain Dennis took us to see the aligators and to the peican bar, we also went to Ys Falls, had the roadside shrimp, and had jerk chicken at Ruby's place. I highly recommend it all.

If you are into the idea of staying in a huge resort Marblue may not be for you. It is really intimate. If the idea appeals to you of staying close to the locals in a really nice romantic place with only a handfull of other suites, I can't recommend Marblue more highly. I plan to return.
