“A buisness hotel”

Lowry Hotel

In this hotel we had an excellent room and can't find fault with it, but the longer we stayed there the more problems arose.
It is a very unatmospheric hotel that seems set up purely for business travellers and not for a luxury relaxation which is what we would expect with a leading hotel and the price we were paying.
The restaurant was a bit uninspiring so we didn't eat there and the breakfast was average but overpriced and also whilst we were having it there were a lot of staff meetings going on and so we kind of got ignored.
During the night we were woken by the room next door playing extremly loud music on their room cd player but it was dealt with very quickly by reception although if the soundproofing isn't good enough the players shouldn't be in the room.
Also, in the morning, the sun hit the room windows and it was a freaky February day that was the middle of a heatwave. Unfortunately, this meant our room was like a sauna (around 35 degrees) and when we asked reception if the air con could be put on they said it wasn't late enough in the year to put it on so I would just have to enjoy the warmth. My wife loves the heat but by 10am she couldn't stand it and we checked out. Reception admitted quite a few people had complained about the heat and so they said 'Sorry' and that was it! I expected more considering what had happened. That is extremely poor customer service.
A very dissapointing stay

“Awesome!”

Lowry Hotel

Mar 11, 2008

Booked into this Hotel on recommendation and loved it.

I asked to be on the top floor looking out towards Salford - views are brilliant- floor to ceiling windows. Comfortable good sized room, comfy bed, flat screen TV and decent bathroom.

Keep your eyes peeled for celebs too! - i saw a couple of professional footballers during my stay.

A quality hotel and bang in the city center. Would definatley stay again.

“Bring on the Poles”

The Lowry is the only place to stay in Manchester if you are looking for a comfortable, modern , airy hotel. Very good size rooms.
Unfortunately the staff have an attitude problem which is common in Manchester, in that the locally recruited staff can not do right, because they have no idea what right is, and seem to have had no training to correct this inherent weakness. They are surly, nasty, cocky, arrogant , resentful and sneering.
However, the situation has improved somewhat in the last year or two since the arrival of Polish employees. Smiling, well groomed, eager to please , pleasant and a natural ability in the hospitality industry. Head for a Pole and keep away from the Mancunians if you want to enjoy the stay.
Management seems to be aware of the problem, and although powerless to do anything about it, is always ready to apologise.

“Is the Lowry any Good ?”

Lowry Hotel

This is a 5 star for accomadation only. The service and attitude of the staff from the management downwards was very poor for a hotel ,that is apparently a leading hotel of the world.
From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we received no help or assistance from :
a) The doorman ( watched as I struggled to open the door with cases)

b) Reception (when enquiring about parking my car which was stuck behind the England football team coaches, I was infromed park it yourself)

c) Reception again ( when I phoned to query why £30 had been added to my bill for drinks that I had never ordered or received ,did nothing about it, claiming it was me who had ordered drinks in the bar despite being out of the hotel that night)

d) Bar Staff ( tried to bill me for High Tea despite being told twice that I had paid for it in the booking)

e) Bar Staff ( very poor service for high tea we were asked 3 times for our order)

f)Management ( when I complained by email I was initially given the brush off stating that this was below the normal service (not according to other reviews on this site)

g) Doorman (watched me struggle with my bags as I left (consistent))

h) Breakfast Staff (slow and had to be asked for refills for orange)

The hotel itself is very nice and with better staff would be more than worthy of 5 stars. It is very well placed with the City Centre within close walking distance and the rooms are very modern and stylish. However the double bed was 2 singles zipped together this is shocking for a hotel of this stature.

I am just back from having stayed in The Ritz London for about the same price. If the management at The Lowry want to see a real 5 star hotel go and stay here. The service and accomodation were second to none. You felt like you were the guests of the Ritz at the Lowry I felt I was an inconvenience especially when the mega rich footballers were staying (maybe they give better tips so receive more attention) My tip don't stay here until service improves. All paying guests deserve the same level of attention. Visit The Ritz or Gleaneagles they have got the correct idea.

“Not value for money.”

We thought we would push the boat out and spend a night here on our way up to Scotland.
We had no complaints except it is way overpriced. If your company is paying for the stay thats fair enough but when its coming out of your hard earned salary, it hurts.
The room was very large, contemporary, large tv, radio etc but the bed was 2 singles pushed together and at the rate charged isnt ideal. Breakfast was extra £16 each and not worth it. None of the breakfast staff spoke English.
Check-in and out was efficient.
