After reading all the glowing reviews, we booked the king suite at the Belmont for a long weekend in August. We normally stay in hotels or B&Bs, but were looking for a little more space. All the reviews stressed how clean the place was. I cannot call this place clean. There were bugs flying around the bathroom sink from the time we arrived until the time we left. There were two plastic chairs and a table outside the room. When we arrived, one chair had a large dirty puddle, and the other had a large clump of hair that looked like it was pulled from a drain. The table had an ashtray with a used cigarette in it.
There were no toiletries in the room except for a bar of soap. When I asked Mo if he had any shampoo, etc., he told me they used to, but the guests kept dropping them in the toilet. Apparently they generally rent to morons. (Another indication is that they don't take credit card reservations - you need to mail a money order, though Mo eventually waived that when I protested.) Mo took me to a shed with a large, filthy box filled with the shampoo bottles that previous guests had left, and offered me to help myself. He told me I would not find any body wash as he keeps those leftovers for himself. We instead headed of to CVS for some toiletries and RAID.
If you've ever stayed at a bed and breakfast, you may be misled by the "pool-side breakfast" as we were. This consisted of the following: a couple of ziploc bags so old that the writing on them had faded, filled with generic corn flakes, some milk in a trough of ice, some random bread in bags or plastic wrap, and a few bananas. The pool was regularly surrounded by beer and cigarettes, and the people consuming them.
The room was a decent size, though the linens were harsh. There was no closet. If you book the king suite, remember that everyone else in the motel is paying half what you are, so don't expect more than they do based on what you are paying.
The motel may fit in well with the town. Unlike other Jersey Shore towns we'd stayed in (Spring Lake, Ocean City, Barnegat Light), Seaside Heights does not seem to attract summer-home builders or upscale vacationers. The houses in the neighborhood of the motel are mainly tiny houses the size of our Manhattan apartment, surrounded by chain-link fences with ten "Beware of Dog" signs and shirtless residents drinking beer on the front lawn. The ocean is nice, but the boardwalk is a shlocky collection of fried Oreo stands. My advice - the Jersey shore is lined with beautiful beaches and towns - skip Seaside Heights and skip the Belmont Motel.

From this review, I gather the main objection to our property was that this was not a Bed &
Breakfast in Spring Lake or Barnegat Light. Well, yes, it is a Motel in
Seaside Heights. This reviewer's cleanliness complaints were with the "puddle"
on an outside chair, which was because of rain that week. (which always makes
customers a little "less happy" with the establishment. His other complaint on
cleanliness was the "bugs flying around".. We cannot control bugs flying
through open doors. Crawling bugs would be a legitimate complaint. The biggest problem was the lack of toiletries supplied. He is correct that we do not supply
shampoo, body wash etc., however, we have never advertised as such and Moe was
only trying to be accomodating by trying to offer him what we had from our storage room .
Our continental poolside breakfast is enjoyed by all our guests, (we get many compliments on our home made banana nut bread and other goodies) and most find
it to be more than adequate. I do take exception to your attack of the quality
of our guests. We love our customers and if you felt they were beneath you, perhaps you need to go to Spring Lake or Barnegat Light.
Sorry, its NOT the Belmont Bed & Breakfast in Spring Lake, it's the Belmont Motel in Seaside Heights, and 99% of our customers find it a pleasant and clean place
to spend their vacation time.
