We visited friends in New Hampshire and had the opportunity to see the lakes of New Hampshire along with a visit to the White Mountains. We particularly like Newfound Lake located just outside of Bristol, NH which is the cleanest lake we have ever experienced. You can see your toes in 5 feet of water and the scenery is just spectacular. Most of the lake is privately owned property so that the lake stays clean throughout the year with a minimum of boat traffic and only one access public beach that is part of a state park. We are told that the lake is spring fed and turns over about twice a year even though in some areas of the lake it is 192 feet deep.
The White Mountains is also spectacular and the best mountain scenery outside of Colorado. We visited the historic Mt Washington Hotel which is a historic site in that it was at this hotel almost 100 years ago that the US dollar was selected as the reference currency against which all other currencies are related to. The hotel is situated in the mountains and has a grandeur about it that is old world. At one time it was the place where President's, Stateman and hollywood actors entertained there guests from abroad.
