I'm writing this review while I'm still in my room, 5:13am in the morning, about to check out from the hotel in an hour time.
My girlfriend and I stayed here at the Hilton Lodge @ McDonald's Campus for 3 nights on 7/18/08 - 7/21/08.
Our experience was phenomenal.
The front desk attendant (Mark) set us up with a King Size bed instead of the 2-Full Size beds upon request. He was very friendly, and helpful. I haven't had this much attention from a front desk attendant else where, and Mark greeted me with my last name (Mr LastName) every time he sees me come to the hotel. He arranged to have an engineer came up and fix the TV, because the controller's receiver wasn't receiving signals at all.
We were assigned to room 324, which was on the 3rd floor, all the way to the end, the farthest you can ever be, but the good thing about it is that, it was very quiet. There was a wedding party going on the 19th July 2008, and I talked to a few people in the morning, lots of them weren't happy because of the noise, and they couldn't get much sleep. After talking to everyone, I was really happy about my room assignment, as I didn't have an interrupted sleep.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful, beautiful lobby, the campus is stunning, very green campus, great lake view, but NO McDonald's being served (which may be positive/negative to different people). Mark (Front Desk) told me this hotel was built more than 20 years ago, but it looks no where like that. I was told they under-went major construction/renovation to get this hotel upgraded from 3-star to 4-star, and I'd say this hotel deserve every single bit of the 4-star rating. Swimming pool is absolutely top of the class, if you happen to stay here, make sure you give it a visit, even if you don't swim, and there's a hot tub there as well, everything is built in-door. After our swim, my girlfriend had a manicure ($22 + tax + tip) and pedicure ($45 + tax + tip), and she was really happy and loved the service and results. Her nails are looking great now. They use O.P.I. products, which is my girlfriend's favorite.
However, there are some cons to this hotel. There are charges to everything, and they don't come cheap. Internet comes at $9.95 + tax, and service doesn't go by 24 hour, it resets at 3pm daily. I paid for internet service at 10am one day, and lost my service at 3pm, and had to renew my internet subscription for $9.95 + tax again. Room service was great, but comes at a hefty price, and an additional $3 and 19% automatically added for service charges, which includes gratuity. Everything else around the hotel restaurant comes with an automatic charge of 19% service/gratuity.
Room was spacious, clean, mattress is very comfortable, comes with a flat-panel LCD TV loaded with lots of channels and programs, and even come with a keyboard, if you want to use the internet on your TV. Bathroom is VERY SMALL, no bath tub, just shower with a slided glass door, and a toilet. It's so small that when you sit on the toilet, you can't open/close the door. I had to stand up and move to a corner just to open/close the bathroom door, or otherwise the door will hit me on my leg (literally), and I'm not that huge, I'm 5'7" 160 lbs. Shampoo/Conditioner/Soap products come with Lavender and Citrus scents, which we thought smelled really good. Air-conditioner was cool, and provides the right temperature for a comfortable sleep. Room comes with a built-in safe deposit box, iron board, lots of hangers in the wardrobe to accommodate my girlfriend's clothes. There are 2 cord-less phones in the room.
Conclusion: I would definitely come back for another stay, and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone I know.
