The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus

5 of 5 stars
Ames, Iowa
Jul 21, 2008

I'm writing this review while I'm still in my room, 5:13am in the morning, about to check out from the hotel in an hour time.

My girlfriend and I stayed here at the Hilton Lodge @ McDonald's Campus for 3 nights on 7/18/08 - 7/21/08.

Our experience was phenomenal.

The front desk attendant (Mark) set us up with a King Size bed instead of the 2-Full Size beds upon request. He was very friendly, and helpful. I haven't had this much attention from a front desk attendant else where, and Mark greeted me with my last name (Mr LastName) every time he sees me come to the hotel. He arranged to have an engineer came up and fix the TV, because the controller's receiver wasn't receiving signals at all.

We were assigned to room 324, which was on the 3rd floor, all the way to the end, the farthest you can ever be, but the good thing about it is that, it was very quiet. There was a wedding party going on the 19th July 2008, and I talked to a few people in the morning, lots of them weren't happy because of the noise, and they couldn't get much sleep. After talking to everyone, I was really happy about my room assignment, as I didn't have an interrupted sleep.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, beautiful lobby, the campus is stunning, very green campus, great lake view, but NO McDonald's being served (which may be positive/negative to different people). Mark (Front Desk) told me this hotel was built more than 20 years ago, but it looks no where like that. I was told they under-went major construction/renovation to get this hotel upgraded from 3-star to 4-star, and I'd say this hotel deserve every single bit of the 4-star rating. Swimming pool is absolutely top of the class, if you happen to stay here, make sure you give it a visit, even if you don't swim, and there's a hot tub there as well, everything is built in-door. After our swim, my girlfriend had a manicure ($22 + tax + tip) and pedicure ($45 + tax + tip), and she was really happy and loved the service and results. Her nails are looking great now. They use O.P.I. products, which is my girlfriend's favorite.

However, there are some cons to this hotel. There are charges to everything, and they don't come cheap. Internet comes at $9.95 + tax, and service doesn't go by 24 hour, it resets at 3pm daily. I paid for internet service at 10am one day, and lost my service at 3pm, and had to renew my internet subscription for $9.95 + tax again. Room service was great, but comes at a hefty price, and an additional $3 and 19% automatically added for service charges, which includes gratuity. Everything else around the hotel restaurant comes with an automatic charge of 19% service/gratuity.

Room was spacious, clean, mattress is very comfortable, comes with a flat-panel LCD TV loaded with lots of channels and programs, and even come with a keyboard, if you want to use the internet on your TV. Bathroom is VERY SMALL, no bath tub, just shower with a slided glass door, and a toilet. It's so small that when you sit on the toilet, you can't open/close the door. I had to stand up and move to a corner just to open/close the bathroom door, or otherwise the door will hit me on my leg (literally), and I'm not that huge, I'm 5'7" 160 lbs. Shampoo/Conditioner/Soap products come with Lavender and Citrus scents, which we thought smelled really good. Air-conditioner was cool, and provides the right temperature for a comfortable sleep. Room comes with a built-in safe deposit box, iron board, lots of hangers in the wardrobe to accommodate my girlfriend's clothes. There are 2 cord-less phones in the room.

Conclusion: I would definitely come back for another stay, and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone I know.

The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus

We chose this hotel as a weekend getaway specifically for the pool/hottub and the overall rating.

When we arrived on the property, it was valet only on site otherwise you had to park 1/4 mile across the street with no options of them bringing in your luggage.

Room was extremely hot, had to call maintenance to fix the issue, it was never resolved, no new room was given.

Jets in whirlpool only worked in the satelitte not the main pool even those worked poorly.

Hotel is extremely outdated and more along the lines of a dorm house.

Would never stay here again.

“Really liked Oakbrook Lodge”

The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus

Jul 12, 2008

Had a 5 day stay at this hotel for a family wedding. It was great. Spacious clean modern rooms, flat screen tv, radio, clean fresh linens and towels and face flannel, all the usual shower and bath gels. Great choice from the breakfast menu. Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel courtesy bus ran us in and out of the Oakbrook shopping mall whenever we wanted. There were a great variety of shops at the mall. (look up oakbrook shopping mall for all the stores.) The hotel setting is beautiful with lots of trees and water, but a little out of the way for the city.

“What a deal!”

The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus

5 of 5 stars
Chicago,Illinois
Jul 9, 2008

We spent a total of three nights at the Oak Brook Hyatt booked through Hotwire. Our first two nights cost $75 each and the third night was $55. I can't remember getting a deal like this in such a quality hotel. The parking is across from the hotel or you can have a valet park it for you at an additional cost of $14. We stayed in a king room that was freshly remodeled.

The bar and restaurant lead outside to an open area overlooking a pond that's an excellent place to enjoy a meal or a drink. The Lodge is a little difficult to find off of Rt. 83 but well worth the stay.

“Nice and secluded”

The Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus

Mar 28, 2008

A bit off the beaten path--but it's quite nice if you are looking for something that is surrounded by trees, small lakes and wildlife.

The rooms are nicely sized. Two double beds with two full desks, lots of drawer space and a large double closet. Lots of easy to access electrical outlets for all of my charging needs.

The beds are a bit small if you are not used to full sized beds. And, I had to re-make the bed because the bottom sheet had pills. But, I checked the other bed and its sheets were fine. Mine must have been an anomaly.

The furnishings were nicely understated and relaxing.

So, here are the downsides:
1) There is no free Wifi. However, when I uttered my shock at that fact to the front desk upon check in, they gave me a coupon for a complimentary 24 hour connection.
2) There is no free use of the exercise room. Happily, the secluded grounds were accessible for running/walking so I didn't use the facilities. Use of the pool and sauna are free, however.
3) The hallways are loud and it's easily heard in the rooms. The night I was there, a family was having a birthday sleep-over for a group of 9 year olds. The girls were still playing in the hallway at 12:30 a.m. and I could hear everything. When I called to complain, nothing happened. But, the party checked out the next night so it ended up being tolerable.
4) Parking is a bit of a hike for sedentary folks. Happily, I am not. But, I may have had a different reaction if it had been raining or snowing and I wasn't prepared. However, if you have a handicapped placard, there is parking directly near the entrance.
5) It's really hard to find if you aren't familiar with the area or aren't coming to Hamburger U. We ended up finding a security guard who escorted us to the site. If not, we'd probably still be going in circles.

All in all, the pluses out-weighed the downsides. I'd absolutely stay there again. But, if you are looking for a great place with all the bells and whistles for free, you may not get it all.
