“Affinia turned out to be a nice choice...”

Affinia Chicago

5 of 5 stars
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
May 10, 2008

I love to stay in the modern design hotels and since my favourite hotel in Chicago was fully booked after many doubts I booked this hotel. I went there without any expectations, just with a thought of having a bed under the roof. This stay turned out to be a lovely one. I liked almost finished lobby of the hotel and the staff of the hotel were incredibly welcoming. So, that was a nice start. Check in very friendly and smooth. I must say I am not a lover of modern classic/posch style which I think discribes the style of the Affinia. But somehow I did like the styte of the rooms in Affinia. It felt homey. Bathroom was huge ( I asked for walk in shower). Aveda products was a plus. I loved the bed and slept very good in it.
The locations is great too.Magnificient mile is just on the corner.
Like someone mentioned before, there is one thing I can't understand why the internet/wifi is charged service at Affinia? I loved my stay at Affinia but for my next stay I will go back to my favourite hotel which offers internet free of charge. Sometimes, these little details and not big lines of the hotel that counts when making final decision choosing hotel. But I will definately check the hotel. Maybe they will change their policy on the internet...I am not the only one who finds it strange after all... Beside this, I do really recommend this hotel to anyone!

“Magnificent”

Affinia Chicago

May 10, 2008

I was completely blown away by this hotel. It was magnificent.

I got a great deal and I am so happy that I stayed here. Before arriving I was nervous as I had read a few bad reviews about the impact the renovation was having on peoples stay, for example very noisy. However, whilst the renovation was still going on and the gym was not open nor the restaurant, it made no difference to me.

My room was huge, bathroom was spacious with excellent water pressure, bed was perfect and the view was amazing.

Hotel is so close to the great shops of Magnificent Mile, plus a comfortable walking distance to Hancock tower and Millennium Park.

“Great Hotel, Great People”

Affinia Chicago

May 10, 2008

My husband I stayed at the Affinia Chicago in March for a convention. We heard that the hotel had undergone a renovation and read great reviews. Unfamiliar with Chicago, we trusted the reviews, crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We were not let down.

Upon arrival, the lobby was still undergoing renovations and preparing for the opening of their restaurant. Our room was ready, so check in was smooth and easy. There are complimentary bottles of water and snacks for you at the front desk...great after a 10 hour flight or a long day of walking around the city.

Daniel, the bellman, helped with our bags and gave us a brief rundown of places to go. Such a great guy, it was southern hospitality at it's best. The room we booked was a Jr. Suite and it was fabulous!! (take a look at photos) The layout was great and it was nice to be able to spread out and lounge. The Affinia has some cool services. They offer several pillow options to choose from, walking tours to download, exercise videos for the room, etc. All of the toiletries in the room are from Aveda. I'm a huge couch potato at home, so I appreciated the flat screen that could swivel to face the bed or the couch.

Location off the Magnificent Mile was terrific. One block off the mile, the hotel is located behind Neiman Marcus. Around the corner was a 24-hour Walgreens. If you are visiting for a conference at McCormick Place the Affinia does not have a shuttle service but don't worry, there are several hotels next to the Affinia that you can catch. The hotel was very quiet and elevators were fast. Very clean, with comfy beds, water pressure in bath is perfect . I recommend the Jr. Suite; it's spacious enough that I could sleep without being bothered while my husband worked on his laptop.

We were sad to leave at the end of the week but needed to get back home for Easter...but our plans changed. There was a freak snowstorm that hit on Friday and our flight back home was cancelled! We couldn't get back home until the night of Easter Sunday!

I immediately got on the phone at the airport and called the Affinia. Spoke with Milton, the Front Desk Manager. He was so helpful and friendly during that stressful moment. He was able to get us checked back into another suite with an even better rate! When we got there, the staff was great to us and were so sorry that we wouldn't be able to get home for Easter. Thank you so much to everyone there.

We fell in love with Chicago and will return during the summer. The city is beautiful, so much to do and see, but most of all the people were so wonderful. We will return to the Affinia and highly recommend it to others if they are looking for a hotel in this terrific city.

“excellent hotel, perfect location”

Affinia Chicago

5 of 5 stars
manchester, UK
May 6, 2008

As others have said, once all the construction works are completed I suspect that the prices this hotel can (legitimately) charge will put it out of our price range. Which will be a pity because it is an excellent hotel, & the location couldn't be better. The room was very spacious, with separate sitting & study areas & a nice bathroom.
Only 3 minor points: downstairs they were serving a free basic breakfast (coffee & pastries), but we only knew of it on our last morning - nobody had mentioned this; the cost of internet - $9.99 - is a bit dear especially when lots of motels now offer it free; there was only powered milk in the rooms, which wasn't that nice. But none of these really spolied a really enjoyable stay.

“Nice Hotel”

Affinia Chicago

May 3, 2008

I like the Affinia....a lot. The location is PERFECT! but i have to admit, it was the staff that sold it. We arrived at about 11am on Sunday, so the rooms were not available. So they stored our luggage while we had lunch. When we returned at about 1pm there were two available. I have to admit I am a very picky person when it comes to where I lay my head. The staff was wonderful. They took me to both rooms to see which one I wanted, which i thought was great.

We ended up going with a third one on the 11th floor. I wanted a king bed instead of a queen. The roomshave a real minimalist feel. Kind of funky and retro. We got a huge room where there were steps leading to the bed. One drawer and a flat screen tv with a couple of lamps, oh and a desk. We lost out on the brand new shower in our room, which i was really bummed about. It is not a luxury suite, but it is really nice. Very clean which I am very picky about. I didn't have the constant need to scratch when I was there. There was some paint chipping on the wall right over the sink. I told the front desk and they said they are going to fix it.

Everything is new here. Yes there is still construction and the restaurant is not done, but there are so many places to eat right outside the hotel, that you don't miss it.

Again the staff was perfect. They greeted us with a smile and every wish was their command. If we needed directions, reservations, water or phone numbers, they were more than willing to help us. Loved em!

I would stay here again!
