This was my second trip to the observatory but my family's first. My plan was to get there just before dusk so they could see the view during the day and then watch the lights come on in the city. What a spectacular sunset! But oh-so-fast! Once the sun started to dip, it just raced away!
Yes, the windows could do with a wash, and the Skydeck is enclosed with heavy mesh. But, really, do you expect Chicago's tallest building to have a truly open observation area? Wouldn't that be a mite dangerous? And maybe the Hancock Observatory doesn't compare with the Empire State Building. But then again, it's not in New York, it's in Chicago. And for Chicago...the view is magnificent.
Do invest in a CityPass if you plan on seeing more of the sights. It makes the cost of all much more managable.
