We loved our vacation to Key West. We flew to Miami and drove down through the keys in a convertible, being from the Midwest, the sun felt so very warm and rejuvenating. Don't be in a hurry as this is a slow drive, but beautiful. We stayed at Banana Bay Resort. It was older but really quiet and had a great continental breakfast. The highlight for us was probably snorkeling at Big Pine Key. It took me awhile to catch on, but after that we wished we would have done it everyday at a different location. We will definitly go there again. Rented a 3 wheeled car to drive around. Had tons of laughs at our own expense as I was the reverse!! Duval street is really fun to sit and people watch as well as shop the unique gift shops. We had a wonderful time in the warm tropical environment and then we had to come back to ice and cold!

I didn't know what to expect at first. I read positive and negative reviews from various hotel websites. Banana Bay Resort was my first pick due to the price and distance from all attractions.
The resort was located on the main road and easy to get to. My wife and I were very surprised once we were inside the resort. The room was super clean and the view from our balcony was amazing. Surrounded by palm trees and great view to the pool and private resort beach. The whirlpool and the tiki bar was a surprise we didn't know about.

We were not sure what to expect having read both good and bad reviews before we left. Although the main office is right on US 1 and is not much to look at from the road, we were pleasantly surprised by the pool area and the large, clean rooms. We were fortunate to have an end room which overlooked both the pool and the ocean. Planned to stay only one night but stayed two. Read that this resort was "clothing optional" but never saw any evidence. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was good. Better value than hotels on the other side of US 1 as they do not have ocean side sunning beaches. Would definitely stay here again.

Our plane was delayed so we missed our connection and ended up waiting stand by in the Atlanta Airport for 24 hours. We finally arrived in Key West 24 hours later then we planned, we were exhausted, it was nearly 10:00pm. We took a cab to the Banana Bay Resort, which we had already paid for, when I went to the front desk to check in I was told that because we had not called they gave our room to someone else (keep in mind we already paid for our stay) and they didn't have any other rooms available. I was told it was our fault for not calling and they would not refund our money from the 1st night and didn't have any place for us to stay. Thank goodness Expedia helped us out and got us another place to stay, they were very helpful. We still did not get any money back from the 1st night and had to pay extra for the hotel we ended up at.
