Just got back from Buenos Aires a couple of days ago. I stayed in a small, lovely boutique hotel (Art Hotel) which I thoroughly enjoyed.
The hotel is located in a great central area (Recoleta) and had plenty of shops, restaurants, banks, etc. all within walking distance to it.
I stayed in a "small and cozy" room which had two single beds in it. It reminded me of a European style hotel, though the room itself was larger than most of the ones I have experienced in various parts of Europe. The room was just the right size for two people. Unless you travel with huge pieces of luggage, there was adequate enough space for two people to move about the room. The room included a mini bar, refrig and a small (10/12" television), a small closet and bathroom. I do admit that the shower/bath was a little smaller than in a standard cabin on a cruise ship. No room to move about. The room was very clean with modern furniture in it. At first I thought that the bathroom floor was a little grungy but soon realized that it was simply the way the cement flooring looked. The housekeeper came in every day and cleaned thoroughly, including giving me new sheets and pillow cases. The only issue I had was that the air conditioner was not working. Both myself and the housekeeper tried to get it to work without success. I did not pursue it since it was really only the one night that it was warm enough to warrant it.
The staff was very friendly and very helpful. They went way out of their way to assist me in any way they could...including ordering a pizza for me one night when I decided to dine in. The price of the hotel includes breakfast which was very good. The breakfast included at least two kinds of freshly squeezed juices (delicious), breads, fruits, cereal, yogurt, quail eggs, cheese and ham slices.
The hotel actually has a small art gallary on the first floor of the hotel. It is a nice collection of paintings, I believe that were done by local artists. The lobby area has massive leather furniture which is very comfortable. There were always fresh, lovely flowers about the place which made the place even more pleasant. The hotel also offerred free use of two computers as well which I appreciated since I did use them more than once.
The area was very safe and I had no problem walking around by myself (a woman) even after dark.
If / When I go back to Buenos Aires, I would definitely stay there again.
