“Little worn out...”

Kempinski Hotel Park Chateau Buenos Aires

3 of 5 stars
Argentina
Jan 12, 2008

I was planning to stay at this hotel for 3 nights, but I decided to leave and stayed just one.
Before I start writing, I have to say that it was my fault to choose such a classical, reinascentist-like hotel when my style is more minimalist and modern. Said so, I comment the following:

PROS:
- location: in the middle of everything (Recoleta, Santa Fe street, shops, etc). Safe area and nice to walk around and shop. Even when it is in a crowded area, the block is quite calm.
- staff is attentive
- my bed was very good: good sommier and mattress. They said this was because my room was a renewed one.

CONS:
- I consider the decoration to be too old fashioned and quite heavy. Though, this is the style of the hotel and I should have been aware of this. However, what I find not so good is that furniture looks old and somewhat worn out. It is not that you find a "kitsch" decoration but impeccable. No. Furniture does not seem either new or original. Expect dark green walls in your room, red covers for the bed, golden picture frames, etc. Besides, the whole building is not new or renewed. Walls are a little worn out, the windows on the rooms are from the 70s at least.
- bathroom was small and old. It was not "classical": it was old. Just white, with an old jacuzzi ( I estimate, 15 years or more), not pleasant for me.

Overall, it is not unpleasant, especially if you like this kind of decoration. I felt like being installed in a not so impeccable museum.

“Superb”

Kempinski Hotel Park Chateau Buenos Aires

5 of 5 stars
Sheffield
Dec 13, 2007

I arrived at the hotel after a long heavy journey and was immediately welcomed by the staff. They were very polite and very helpful indeed. The room was amazing, a little kitsch but in a good way. The Chez lounge was a nice touch along with the in room Spa bath. The cleaning staff were very attentive and I found that they cleaned my room every time I left. Great breakfast in the mornings. The location is very good and you can stroll into town if you want or get one of the very reasonably priced taxis from outside. I was running late at check out and staff allowed me to check out quickly and sorted a taxi out for me to allow me to catch my flight on time. Overall great service and worth every penny.

“Enjoyed our 5 day stay”

Kempinski Hotel Park Chateau Buenos Aires

4 of 5 stars
Burlington, Ontario
Dec 3, 2007

Our stay was from Nov 19th to Nov 24th. Many people are critical of this hotel but I can't understand why. This is not the Four Seasons and I knew that going in, coupled with the fact the Park Chateau is a boutique hotel which adds to its charm. We found the service to be first rate and the price ($130+tax) to suit our budget. We found the front desk staff to be very helpful and would stay there again.

“Not to the Kempinski Standard”

Kempinski Hotel Park Chateau Buenos Aires

2 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
Dec 1, 2007

I am rarely compelled to write a comment on a travel experience but this hotel is so far below the Kempinski standard that I must warn others before making the same mistake.

On arrival the small lobby was filled with patrons and their luggage waiting to be checked in. No early check in was available that day, possibly owing to the small size of the hotel. As I did check in, the bell boy summed up the experience I was about to have by offering "It is a very good location but a very old hotel." Old is not bad to me when it has been well kept and, in fact, I prefer historic properties. Unfortunately the Park Chateau is just old.

The finishes are heavily worn, my low quality sheets had holes in them, and not only was there no steam iron in my room (not unusual outside the US), the front desk informed me that the hotel does not lend irons to the guest rooms (this was a first for me anywhere in the world).

Please do not be fooled by the four star category rating offered on most travel sites. This property is a low three star hotel and I am dissapointed by the Kempinski brand for allowing the use of its name on this property.

“Noisy and uncooperative.”

Kempinski Hotel Park Chateau Buenos Aires

2 of 5 stars
Montevideo
Oct 13, 2007

My family and I stayed there for our first visit to Buenos Aires. We were able to get in the room early upon arrival and they were helpful in selecting the correct rooms for our famiy ( allowed us to look at them before giving us our room assignment). Some of the staff was helpful but some were uncoooperative and had a chip on their shoulder. I heard them speak english and spanish.
The room was a nice size with a queen bed or two full size bed and a futon that a kid can sleep on if you want , to small for an adult and hard ( I know this because I had to sleep on it for one night). The bathroom was ok (old and no fan) , seemed like we never had enough towels. The elevator was small and as said prior could barely hold 3 people. The stairs were always full of things so it made it difficult to go up and down them ( roomservice trays, linens, etc.) When we were checking out they were getting ready for a busy weekend and were sold out on the day we left so they had no late checkout but would hold your luggage for you until you were done with your sightseeing. The same day the whole staff look hurried and wanted the people that were checking out , out of the hotel. We began hearing the cleaning of the rooms at 800am after we had stayed out until 100 am for a tango show, so you really couldn't get good rest. To clean the rooms they were using a shop vac vacuum that sounded like a jet engine and made it very noisy. Location was not bad in Ricolletta within 6 to 12 blocks of Florida Street and the Cemetary ( easy to grab a cab: 15 -20 pesos aregentinos to most place (5-10 american dollars) ). The breakfast was nothing special they had some runny eggs, bread , and sour fruit and juices. The breakfast was until 1030 am and they would take everything away( drinks and food) at that time even if there were people sitting there eating. I would not stay there again unless I was in desperate need of a place to stay.
