We stayed here for 2 nights in April.
Overall we were quite satisfied. The concierges were very helpful. The reception staff were mixed, some very helpful and friendly, others a bit brusque in comparison to the usual friendly welcome you get when in Malaysia.
Reception area is very large and impressive.
We were quite happy with our room, as it was very spacious and well-furnished. Bathroom tiles were showing a bit of mould around the bathtub and bathroom could have done with an upgrade (other Renaissance hotels have nicer, newer bathrooms). This is not to say the bathroom cleaning was not up to standard, the mould is something that would need to be addressed as part of a refurbishment.
Breakfast was very good. There was a very large selection of American and Asian breakfast dishes.
The hotel is approx. 15 mins. walk from the historical centre, passing by lots of Indian food and clothes stores. Alternatively, you can take a taxi for about 14 RM, but because of the one-way street system, you will find you are doing a roundabout tour of the city to get to your destination, especially when travelling from the centre back to the hotel. If you are spending the day viewing Melaka's sights in the historic centre, it is not convenient to drop into the hotel for a break and a cool-down in the middle of the day.
Tip: To see a unique part of Melaka, go to Kampung Morten. This is 5 mins walk from the hotel. Turn left as you leave the hotel, then right. Ahead you will see a footbridge. Cross this, and you will find yourself in a village-like atmosphere, with pretty houses and charming gardens.
