Overall, the hotel was pretty good. The room was clean, and the price was quite reasonable.

The AC in the room didn't work, and even though we had a non-smoking room, it smelled smoky. Other than those minor complaints, we were happy with the hotel.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Kyoto in January 2007. The location is a bit out of the way, but we had done our homework before and knew it wasn't right in the thick of things. The room was on the small side, but accommodated our family of 4 just fine. The shopping mall in the basement was fabulous as were the restaurants located nearby. We would definitely stay here again. We paid about $100 USD per night for our rooom which is a bargain in Kyoto.

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights in early October. We booked a non smoking room over the hotels's website for less than $100 per night. The room was clean and quiet. We didn't spend much time in the hotel, a bus stop with several routes which takes you to the highlights in the city is a 5 minute walk. We took the shuttle from the train station to the hotel, the shuttle stop at the train station is hard to find, it is not where all the hotels are picking up at and is across the street from the station. It was free and ran on time. We had breakfast one morning in the resturant it was a full western/eastern style buffet for about $12 per person. Aside from the breakfast there were no other food options in the hotel, but there is a mall/department store right next door with several options, only problem is they all closed at 8 or 9 pm, so no late night options if you arrive late to eat at. Better to eat at the train station and then head to the hotel, however you may then miss the last shuttle bus and have to take a city bus to the hotel. We would stay there again.

My friends and I decided to take a weekend trip to visit my friend in Kyoto, so we stayed here using my father's points. We just wanted someplace to sleep and were not too worried about the property, as it was free. We did not have any problem finding the taxi shuttle from the Kyoto station, and had a fun ride with the shuttle driver....As we are all unfamiliar with the city, we were happy the the property at first....When my one friend wanted to take the bus to meet a friend, she waited for an hour for the bus to come (i think it was an off-peak time). I do not think we would have enjoyed the trip as much if my local friend did not drive us around. If he had not offered his assistance, we would have had a much more difficult time navigating our way and figuring out transportation (and mind you, we all lived in Japan at that point for a while and all studied Japanese, speaking moderately-very well). It just seemed that having to wait for the bus, go on the subway/train to all the places we wished to go to would have been much more cumbersome. Anyway, the room was good- we took advantage of a Pizza Hut deal that the hotel offered. The hotel is obviously not a 5-star luxury hotel, but as we were out all day, and did not want to pay, it fit our needs perfectly. With this being said, if you do not wish to pay high prices, and have enough time to allow for transportation allowances, I would advise this hotel.
