“Nice, clean friendly hotel with good location for price paid”

Oriental Rivoli Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Aussie an Pomme in UK
Apr 14, 2008

Had to change to this hotel at last minute when our travel agent informed us that our original hotel was over booked and the alternative had horrendous reviews.

At the time we visited the hotel was very small, however, there was an extension underway next door that would probably make the hotel 3 to 4 times bigger! Despite this there was no evidence that this was a building site, no noise and the new room fronts facing the pool had been completed despite the rooms behind not being finished!

Location
there's 2 types of hotel in Na'ama bay, hotels on the beach and cheap(er) hotels! Of those not on the beach this is a good location. There's a main road between the hotel and the hotels that front the beach and the beach about 5 minutes walk through these hotels. It's about 20 minutes walk along the beach into the centre or about E£1/E£2 in a taxi. The road is very busy and whilst the traffic is generally easy to traverse, it may not be suited to young families!

Room
The room was very spacious, especially when compared to those on the med!! Very spacious, air con, TV with BBC world and a great shower! Ours also had a nice seating area! The beds were a little soft though for our liking. The house keeping guys always kept the room extremely clean and tidy and there was always a new towel sculpture on the beds each day!

Food
The food was repetative but there was plenty to choose from. Omelletes and pancakes made to order for breakfast as well as cereal, fruit salad plus plenty of bread and pastries. There was also a selection possibly not geared towards the British palatte (soup, salads, sausage and potatoes) but worth a go if you're adventurous enough! Dinner there was fresh pasta bar and other fresh food including stir fry cooked to order as well as a wide selection of other hot food, salads and FANTASTIC desserts!

Beach
The beach is shared with one of the other hotels (Days Inn Gafy Resort) and whilst it is spacious and has plenty of lounges, the lounges themselves aren't the most comfortable! Only issue was that the last day we were there and wanted to chill out on the beach for a few hours before our flight we were told that we would have to pay for entry to the beach (E£20 per person) even though we had only been to the beach 2 out of the 7 days we were there.

Pool
Small but nice with plenty of comfy sun lounges and a bar. Massages are offered pool side during the day.

Upsides
Nice, clean, new hotel with nice pool area. Good location if you're not staying on the main beach strip.

Downsides
Food can be repetative, main road needed to cross, but only really if with families.

“Very Nice - Hotel, Staff, Location ... all good”

Oriental Rivoli Hotel

Mar 18, 2008

We are a mid thirties couple who wanted to find a hotel for low price but still a good experience. Well, we found it. Oriental Rivoli was a very good experience for both of us. From when we arrived at the reception to our departure, the staff treated us really well and took care of all of our needs. This is a newer hotel so everything is in good shape. Located right next to a McDonalds, a Sushi restaurant, a Pharmacie, a big grocery store and a currency conversion place made it really easy for us.

The rooms are nice size and the bathroom was also very nice. The only complaint as already mentioned by others is that the rooms seem a little dark because they are painted in darker colors and the lamps used do not give out enough light. So, if they can change that, it would be perfect.

The beach is about 5 minutes short walk across the street from the hotel. You get a ticket at the reception and walk over to the beach, hand it to an attendant over there and they give you big towels. Go find one of the many beach beds/umbrellas and enjoy. It's that simple. One more thing we liked was the walk from the city center to our hotel. You walk down towards the beach and then take this promenade like walk along the beach and all the nice restaurants/resorts towards the city center. A leisurely walk down this path takes about 12-15 minutes to get to the center where the night action is. You can eat nice dinners, shop, lounge at a sheesha places in the open air and people watch.

I would definitely stay at this place again. Really liked the service and the friendly staff there. Two thumbs up.

“Small and friendly”

Oriental Rivoli Hotel

Me and my husband stayed at this hotel for 14 nights from 14.2.08. We were a little nervous about visiting sharm again as we had previously had a very bad experience at one of the all inclusive hotels, so had been very careful to select a hotel with good reviews. We were not disappointed with the Oriental Rivoli. Great loctaion, walking distance to Namma bay ( 10 mins)

Rooms: A decent size, with king size bed and plasma tv. The bathroom was really nice, good shower and hairdryer. Plenty of hanging space and always spotlessly clean.

Pool: Very cold!! as most unheated pools in winter. Again the whole area was really clean and bar staff very helpful and friendly. Snacks and drinks are available and all at good prices. There is a massage area set up, which is reasonable priced and very relaxing!

Restaurant: we booked BB at the hotel and enjoyed the buffet style breakfast. The restaurant for evening meals looked very nice but as the hotel is new and quiet it lacks any atmosphere, but i'm certain when the hotel is busier it would be nice.

Beach: This is the only real downside of the hotel. The beach is shared with the Days Inn Gafy accross the main road. This hotel is very run down and the sunloungers on the beach were really uncomfortable. The toilets were gross and the bar facilities very poor. The beach itself was very clean though and there are some dance and keep fit activities available, and a lovely view.

“terrible hotel like nursing home for old people !!!”

I had the worst experience staying during New Years Celebration in this small, ugly, dark hotel, which is like NURSING HOME for old people ! I was first time in Sharm el Sheikh and really didn't have experience and recommendation which hotel to choose ! I tried to choose and change 3 hotels during my stay to compare the services. So, I wish I would never left Hilton with 5 starts exellent fantastic services and hotel conviences and wish wouldn't never move to this holl ! It's ugly, dark, small hotel with 100 old age people, and the atmosphere you feel like sanatory or nursing home oh my god, I wanted go home rather sitting there ! No activities, no space, no pool, no entertainement, nothing ! Room the worst I have ever seen in prestige city ! Rooms don't have windows, can you believe? No windowns, rooms are damed, wet, smell dirty, ugly, we couldn't stay and sleep normaly there ! Never come back, highly not recommend, don't stay there if you don't want to make your hollidays nightmare !

“a great holiday”

just returned on 14/01/2008 after two great weeks in this hotel. It is small compared to others that we have used in sharm but it had a certain charm. Extention work is being done but the disruption was minimal I just hope when the place doubles in size it wont loose its charm. The place whole place was spotlessly clean and house-keeping were at work all day. prices in bar were fair. we were there for the new year and the staff put on a great night, the food, entertainment and atmosphere were good. Our second week the hotel was almost empty and the standard and choice of food fell a bit but we never went hungry. The only strange thing was that the room we had (211)had two small windows covered with heavy wooden lattice work looking out onto a corridor so the room was always in darkness and as there was no balcony if you woke thru the night you didnt really know if it was night or morning. I would have loved a balcony or a big window. Tariq and Essam doing massage and plucking eyebrows around the pool were fab. Staff very friendly. Close to beach and Naama Bay. All in all a great time was had and would advise anyone looking for a quiet end to the day to go here it was really good
