Overall I found the hotel very clean, staff very friendly and the food and service fine. The hotel itself is part of an enormous complex. You are really entering a large village than a hotel. To get around the hotel you use taf-taf’s (open air buses) which stop outside your apartment block every 5 minutes. From the Aquamarine hotel its about a 5-10 min walk to the Breakfast restaurant (no joke). You will be surprised just how big the place is.
On the food front there are many restaurants. They all do excellent food although the Sultan buffet restaurant wasn’t up to scratch and it was ridulously over priced. We didn't suffer from the dreaded Pharoah's revenge so the food must be pretty good.
The swimming pool by the Aquamarine hotel was pretty empty so it was very pleasant for sun bathing and swimming. The private beaches are great and there are plenty of Scuba Diving facilities.
As an English guest in this hotel I would note four things:
1) Go all inclusive, the prices at the hotel if you pay are akin to English prices and even then still expensive. If we had gone all inclusive our stay would have been very cheap. As it was we spent over 500 pounds on Food and drinks over our 10 day stay. I don’t believe staying at the Aquamarine allows you to go all inclusive, I may be wrong but you could stay at the Sultan and the other hotels within the complex for this and not miss out.
2) If you wish to be around other English holidaymakers this isn’t for you. I can speak some Italian and wanted to pick up more by staying here but the hotel is part of an Italian chain and the guests are mainly Italian or Russian. I found it quite refreshing to be on our own and unbothered. Fellow Brits might like tp be around other Brits.
3) Always check your bill, particularly in the hotel supermarket where they will try and stitch you up. After taking issue once I got the right change subsequent times. I think sometimes the checkout staff just think of a number. I had to query a few restaurant bills as well.
4) The hotel has its own time zone!!! Egypt is 2 hours ahead of British time but the hotel is 3 hours ahead of British time (1 hour ahead of Egyptian time). No one outside the hotel knows what Domina time is so be warned when you arrive and leave the hotel.
If you need cash there are cashpoints at the hotel reception. For paying guests (not all-inclusive guests) you can get a ‘Coral’ card which you can put cash on and use at the various restaurants and bars of the complex. They don’t take cash at the bars and restaurants so the alternative is to sign it to your room. With a coral card at least you can keep an eye on your spending as the amount remaining comes with the bills.
