“If you love Russians and Arabs”

Tropicana Rosetta Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Burntwood Staffordshire UK
May 7, 2008

This hotel is well spread out over a large landscape the room we were in first was in the 2000's and that was not the farthest away, itwas about 900 yards uphill from the main hotel and restaurant if you have walking problems forget it, we were lucky in as much as we had no hot water so they moved us to within 50 yards of the main hotel and right opposite the swimming pool. We then had a great room. The boy who cleaned the room was lazy and did not do a good job but the hotel was clean. The reception service was a bit iffy, everything was in 10 minutes but it never materialised. The food was passable but do not eat the chicken it gave my wife and I the runs, and of course the hotel was half full of our Russian friends with no manners or regard for anyone, also the second week we were invaded by Arabs I cannot print what they are like at a dining table or their manners. Even worst was that there were not enough dining tables and we had to wait and grab a table when it was free and go up one at a time for food as someone would grab your seat.Would I return to this hotel maybe not.

“Great holiday”

Tropicana Rosetta Hotel

I returned yesterday and I have no real complaints about the hotel. I stayed in the jasmine section and the rooms was nice and clean, we had a double bed, a mini fridge, a hairdryer in the bathroom and a tv with a couple of channels showing films in english.

the pool was nice, the first few days it was a bit of a shock jumping in but found each day we were there it seemed warmer and with the temperatures reaching 40 degrees you needed to jump in.

The pool boys were good and we even got beds saved for us but on the days we didnt we found that people were coming down as early as 6am putting their towels on so we found ourselves doing the same which I dont really agree with but left us no choice if we wanted a good spot which gets the sun all day.

If we couldnt get a spot, just down some steps is the new rosetta area which is a nice pool as well but we just prefered our pool as it was near to the room if we wanted to pop back for the loo or to grab a drink.

The staff at the jasmine pool was good, there is a swim up bar which is nice to sit and have beer, the prices were ok, 25 egyptian pounds for a 500ml bottle of their lager which was fine. I really really like lager but it was quite refreshing.

The main road is a nightmare, as soon as you set foot out of the hotel, we were mithered by locals asking us whether we wanted a taxi which got a bit annoying, you then hit the main road which is really busy and as you are trying to get accross another 5 taxis pull up asking if we wanted a taxi, at first we were polite but after
2 weeks we were getting really annoyed.

We would cross the road and go into the hilton fayrouz, there is the pirates bar in there with happy hour from 6-9pm with the lager being 60p up to 80p a bottle, they are do a nice steak and chips for £6.50. We watched the football in there, the staff were great and it is nice place to go. From there we go through to the beach promanade and hit the ghalaza beach bar which has 2 for 1 on all drinks from 6-9pm, nice to go for a cocktail and there is a singer on which the guy wasnt bad but there was a woman singing a couple of nights as ok but not as good as the regular man. they also do nice meals which were nice and a good price.

In naama bay, there is the camal roof top bar which a nice place for a drink and watch the world go by or there is karaoke in the tavern on thursdays and saturdays, it is mainly english that go in there.

The hotel owned beach issmall and cramped so we went to the gafy resort beach which was £2.50. each and you get a towel and bed, it is a bit quieter but we only went once, tended to stay at the pool.

the main street in naama bay has cafes on both sides where you go and try the shisha pipes and is nice to chill out.

I found the hotel staff friendly in all areas, the reception was helpful, we got a free safety deposit box and my husband arranged a cake for my birthday which he was told he would be charged for but on checking out we were told it was complimentary which was nice.

You get mithered round the pool for massages the first couple of days but once they know your face they leave you alone, my husb and had the full body massage which cost £30 which he enjoyed. they actually do it around the pool.

I would say it is worth staying if you are on a budget, it was clean and we got free towels every day. I used the laundry service for some jeans and they were very good.

On a previous review there is an email address for a lady taxi driver called Alison if you have not got a transfer, she charged us £15.00 return and it was better than battling with the taxi drivers, she was there for us when we arrived and we arranged a time for be picked up and she was great. I would definately recommend her.

“Pleasant stay at hotel”

Tropicana Rosetta Hotel

Apr 26, 2008

We stayed at the Tropicana Rosetta from 17/04/08 - 24/04/08 inclusive. On the whole we were satisfied with the resort. The room was clean and the resort as a whole was clean and tidy. The breakfast was satisfactory and a fair variety of food available.
Felt that the staff was friendly and helpful, pool area was clean.

The negative points were:

1) Sunbeds were taken very early in the mornings, some people would leave their personal towels on the sun beds overnight just to ensure they got the same spot and this was a bit unfair for other guests

2) Housekeeping was late afternoon/early evenings and we always waiting or had to ask staff when this would be done

3) During our last 2 days at the resort we had no power or water and again we had to wait and ask staff when this would come on, on the first day of the power cut we had to wait until 4pm for it to come on and on the second day we had to wait until 12pm.

4) Felt that this resort wouldnt suit eldery couples or someone with walking difficulties as there are a lot of steps and this can be very tiring.

Overall satisfied with our break at this hotel. A short 10 minute walk to Naama Bay was great, we booked B&B and ate out in the evenings and Naama Bay was a great place to hang out at night. Must say that we didnt have much of a problem with shopkeepers haggling us as we just walked past them. Great variety of food served at Naama Bay from Mexican, Indian, Thai, Pizza Hut, KFC, Sushi, Seafood, Italian.

Weather wise it was very hot, 40 degrees at day time, 31 degrees at night, no breeze and it was very hot. This was their spring time.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone going there.

“Tips to make your stay better”

Tropicana Rosetta Hotel

Agrree with previous comments that hotel is more a 3 star and could do with some up-grading in the rooms particularly the bathroom. However, the swimming pools were excellent including a seperate childrens pool and play area. Air con in room brilliant, free security boxes, rooms cleaned daily and friendly staff. I would definatley recommend meeting your Hotel Rep. we booked independently but was still given a rep called Ali. He gave us a short talk about Sharm did not push his excursions and actually helped us sort out our own trips. He was extremelly helpfull and honest e.g. he told us not to pay more than 30 Egyptian Pounds in a taxi for travel to the Old Town and Aqua Park Water park about 10 minutes drive away. Cleo Park water park is situated up the hill next to the Rosetta- 2 mins. walk, however they are charging the same admission as they do at Aqua Park which is ten times better, so well worth the £3 taxi fare to get there. As for haggling, make sure you agree a price before getting in a taxi and always offer less than the price even when buying a newspaper! We got ours for 15 E.P. (£1.50) when initially asked for 35 E.P. The hotel beach is not even worth walking to find, it is terrible, no room, no sun, no decent snorkelling. We paid 40 E.P. for the Public Beach (dont forget to take your towels) which gives you 4 sunbeds and 2 shades, when snorkelling walk to the right or left of the designated area and its brilliant. We booked a snorkelling excursion in town from a small booth at top of main street underneath the flying carpet dancer!! We paid 180 E.P. per. person which included 3 stops at sea and a nice lunch and drinks. We were picked up from our hotel and looked after by a great guy called Yasser. We found the touts in town to be a bit pushy but just say No, Thank-you- dont get into conversation as we did the first night and ended up in one of their shops for a good half hour! We met lots of genuine Egyptian people they do really like the English people and not just for their tipping, the Russian tourists seemed to be very rude and unfriendly, so a Thank-you and a smile goes a long way!

“lovely pool but would not give rooms 4 stars”

Tropicana Rosetta Hotel

Apr 13, 2008

the pool areas are very nice and clean, beds always available, great pool attendants, the room was large but needed updating and the bathroom was very grubby, breakfast was fine, overall hotel was very clean, but we did get sick of tipping all the time.
be careful crossing the very busy road outside to get to the beach and town center. the town center strip was a bit tacky when all lit up at night and even more grotty during the day.
great place for a winter destination for the weather but if i went again i would try another resort and would pick a 5 star hotel as i do not think tropicana rosetta is a 4 star.
