I have stayed at this hotel twice now, and if you know what to expect, you should have a fantastic holiday.
A few things to consider before booking:
- The Oasis is not a 5 star hotel as advertised, and more like a 3 star. The thing to remember is you get what you pay for. But the rooms are very clean, although a little tired, but they are cleaned every day with fresh bed linen and towels. You are limited to what swimming pools you can use.
Ask for a sea view if poss.
- I personally wouldnt go all inclusive, as it limits where you can eat, although if you do and choose to go and eat in one of the many other restaurants, i think you get some discount. I went B+B both times, as the breakfast in the Coral (Oasis) restaurant is fab- fresh fruit, cereals, bacon + egg on toast, omelette, croissants and cakes. But it does mean you then have to pay out for lunch and dinner.
- The hotel complex is massive, so great if you like walking as the grounds are lovely, there are alot of steps and hills. They do run buses all over, but you might have to wait!
- Evening entertainment is limited, and i didnt think much of it, but with all the walking and snorkelling in the day, we had alot of early nights and early mornings. There's lots going on in Naama Bay, which is only a 5min taxi ride away, and only costs £3-4 if you get a taxi from outside the front gate.
- The majority of the guests are Russian, and the hotel cater for this. They can be quite rude, especially at breakfast, but i just found them quite amusing, and dont be suprised if the womens clothing leaves little to the imagination!
- Are your transfers included in the price? When i booked they wanted £18 per Person!! If you can be bothered to haggle when you arrive there are loads of taxis waiting outside the airport. We paid £9 for four of us and it only takes 10mins. But if you want someone to meet you, you could ring the hotel in advance, and they will send one of their taxis for you. We did this on the way back, they are much nicer cars and less eratic drivers.
I would recommend this hotel to people who want a relaxing holiday, but like walking and snorkelling. They do aerobics and salsa etc by the pool, if you dont like this kind of thing go to the other pool which is up past block 34. Its lovely and peaceful there and has a pool bar. The floating jetty is great if you like snorkelling, but it can get very busy. You get free fresh laundered towels from each of the swimming pools and beach.
The beach is lovely but not if you like swimming, as because of the coral you cant get into the sea, but you can just walk along to the jetty and get in there.
There is a path that runs along the back of the beach, if you fancy a walk, you can keep walking through to the neighbouring hotels.
The hotel has its own farm where they grow all their fruit, veg , and meat, organically. So all the food is super fresh.
There are a few restaurants, my favourites being Petrus steak house, The Nautilus - on the sea front, really nice atmosphere, they have a 5star restaurant next to the Domina Prestige, i cant remember the name, but its divine, very expensive beware of drink prices £4 for a bottle of water! But they have a pianist playing, and the food is fantastic. There is also an italian pizzeria which is pretty good. I would say the prices are about the same you would expct to pay in uk.
For lunch we would usually go to the mosaic cafe, or the sports bar/internet cafe, the cafe on the beach near the jetty is pretty good to.
From what i heard the food in the other restaurants isnt up to much, but i cant really comment as didnt go there.
We went to Naam Bay ( i personally didnt like it there at all, but its worth seeing if only once) you get hassled quite alot, and dont get conned into buying anything you dont want to, you might have to be quite rude! We ate at the hard rock cafe, the food was diabolical!
We did the trip to Cairo, Fantastic!! And also the snorkelling boat trip, which was great! If you are going on any trips out of Sharm you need to get your visa at the airport when you arrive. This will save you having to go back there to purchase one.
There is a safe room in reception, its free to use ( unless you lose your key) and very secure, we left all valuables in there, and you sign in and out with a guard.
We also put money onto a coral card, as you cant pay cash in the restaurants etc, you can sign stuff to your room, but we found it easier to use the coral card to avoid any confusion at the end.
You've probably read about 'Domina time' in other reviews, its very confusing as the hotel has its own time which is an hour ahead of Egyptian, one of us set our watch to Domina and the other to Egyptian.
The one problem with the hotel is it has no public payphones, there is a phone room, but the prices were the same as using your mobile. We found the internet prices more reasonable.
I loved it here, if your looking for a cheap holiday, with lots of sun, swimming and sea its perfect. The hotel is big enough you never have to leave, it has more of a village feel than a hotel.
If your into good food dont go all inclusive!
The weather in Feb, March, and April is perfect.
Get a map from reception and go exploring, there's a lot to see and do around the complex.
