“Take my advice, Upgrade to the Royal”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

May 8, 2008

I'd stayed at the Savoy 2 years ago so knew that we had to pay for an upgrade to the Royal Savoy.

We had a fabulous time and there was no luxury spared! The staff are brilliant and when they found out we were 'Royal' immediately went that extra mile. Within the Royal, you have 2 exclusive pools and when others tried to use our pools, they were politely asked to leave.

Food is fantastic, but make sure you try the new restaurants at the 'Soho Square' area (just outside the hotel complex). The best by far was the Bombay which serves middle eastern indian food. It is by far THE best indian food I've ever tasted. If you want to get that extra quality, then I suggest you tip the bar man which we did every day. For about £4 a day, he brought drinks to us around the pool and ensured we were never without water or snacks.

Unfortunately it's true what they say about the Russians. They are by far, the most rude, arrogant and awful group of tourists. Even their children are vile and rude! The egyptian people are so friendly and it was incredibly frustrating to watch the Russians barking orders at these lovely people. My boyfriend had a fight with 2 russian girls who told us to move because they wanted our pool umbrella! Bleeding cheek.

“The honest overall review”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

May 4, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

We have just comeback from a one week stay at the Savoy in Sharm. If you are going and have been worried by previous reviews, then don't be, you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves.

Lets start by saying that this is by no means anyway like the Savoy in London (obviously) but it is a genuine 5 star hotel with a real feel of class. We were all inclusive (s class), this is by far the most popular option with most of the holiday makers using this option. I would strongly advise you to use the a la carte restaurants as to be honest we thought the buffet restaurant was not really upto standard for a hotel like this (also the staff seemed so miserable, elsewhere they are so friendly). The restaurants are the Italian, Fish, Asian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and the Morgana which was a mix of meat, fish and pizza.

The rooms are very nice but the bathroom was a bit tired (still fine though). The room is cleaned everyday, I feel that maybe tipping your cleaner early on maybe a good idea as ours kept knocking on our door checking everything was ok! hint hint.

The beach is actually really nice but busy, you can paddle in to the sea to cool off but then the coral comes in and you are unable to go out any further, there is a jetty that takes you out to a clear area.
You will find 3 pools, all are very nice, all 3 have different depths. The pool bar is very good and the waiters and bar staff all speak good english, they seem to like a bit of an argument with each other though, at one point almost coming to blows!!

One downside though, and I hate to stereotype, the russian men and women are so rude, the girls parade around the place like prima donnas, and loved to be looked at. There is a mix of nationalities, the main been Russian or Ukranian, English and Italian (very nice), and I believe some Saudi and Egyptians too.

Overall this was a great holiday, the weather was incredibly hot everyday, do not hesitate in booking or staying in this hotel, we paid £525 each for one week all inclusive, Bargain. Don't forget to use your free laundry service, free massage (book early as I could only get in on my last day) and free glass bottom boat trip.

“Everything was OK! But there were rough management mistakes at the end”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

2 of 5 stars
Russia, Moscow

My wife and me returned from Savoy 20 Apr 08. In general we like this hotel. The staff were great and courteous. The territory were wonderful. The room was spacious and nice but not 5 stars (a little bit old furniture i have to sad).
Food in A La carte restaurant were great, especially in Italian restaurant! But the main restraunt was dull and monotonous in food. The qualitty of meat in main restraunt was bad, as meat was rubber on taste.(((

By the end of our vacation we were very disappointed by management of Savoy concerning check out from the hotel. We had very late flight to Moscow at 11.30 p.m. in night, so we liked to prolong for additional money our staying in room at least by 18.00 p.m. We asked receptionist about prolonging from the fist day of our vacation, they answered us come at morning on the last day, but on the last day of vacation they said to us "STRONG NO". We were surprised.

So my wife and me had to stay more than 8 hours on the sofa in Lobby. NO free food for S-class after 12.00 a.m. NO free drinks after 12.00 a.m - everything for great additional money and staying the hole day at sofa!!! I have been in many countries around the world and never seen so abominable relation for guests after check out!!! I think they had to provide us by S-class food and drinks till evening as they failed with room prlonging of staying.

SO I HAVE TO ASK you dear travelers - IS THIS FIVE STARS CHECK OUT??? And i have to ask you definitely NO!!!!

You can expect five star check in but don't expect five star check out! This is Savoy Egypt! Good Bye! After 12.00 o'clock check out you will almost nothing for Savoy staff and management, i said ALMOST as they will not forget to ask you fill in guest relation form)))))

Keep in mind this information. And also keep in mind that in general Savoy was good and freindly but with specific of making hotel buisness in Egyptian tradition.

“Royal Savoy - dream come true”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

Apr 23, 2008
7/7 found this review helpful

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a one week break in the Royal Savoy. The reviews on the Trip Advisor are varied and I was pensive as to whether the resort was a good choice. However we enjoyed our break away immensely but there are a few areas that I would like to advise other people on.

In order to get the best deal I would suggest calling around various agents - Thomas Cook were VERY competitive and we used their quote to drive down the price at other Agents. In the end for one week, half board in the Royal Savoy we paid £810 each, though we did only book a few weeks in advance.

The £810 included, free transfers to and from the Hotel, a private area for breakfast, Free alcoholic and soft drinks from the pool bar and lounge between 12 -8 pm, free canapés and fresh fruit throughout the day. A private swimming pool and 25% off dinner and drinks in other restaurants (except the Eest restaurant - no discount). All the above they are reluctant to tell you and we had to ask numerous questions to find all this out.

The room was large and spacious with a four poster bed, nice size bathroom, small lounge area and balcony, we were located on the ground floor and therefore you do NOT get a sea view as stated in the brochure and travel agent, due to the palm trees in the way and the lay of the land is not conducive to seeing much. Each day the linen would be changed and fresh cakes would be placed in the room.

The staff are friendly and helpful; a small amount of tipping at the beginning is not essential but often helps (by small amount I mean £10 throughout the whole week we stayed).

We only went to two restaurants as they book up VERY quickly, you have to call at 1pm as by around 3pm they are all fully booked. The Tirana restaurant is awful, equivalent to school dinners and mass produced food, bland and rubbery, however we had a 25% discount and we went to the Sea Food Restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is also good value for money, two Maine Lobster tails and drinks came to around £40.

The other downfall of the bars and restaurants is the cleanliness of the glasses, they only seem to rinse them rather then wash them. Also you may have to ask a few times for items such as water, drinks or ketchup, as they seem to forget.

The Egyptian massage is worth a try and good value for money £40 for an hour.

The beach is not as great as it looks and no romantic walks along it as it is busy during the day and not very long, the sand is also rather rough and my girlfriend cut her foot either on a shard of glass or maybe the sand itself.

We went to the local market via the free bus transfer, book this early as it is busy and you wont get a slot unless you do. Its good fun to haggle with the locals but decrease their prices by at least half, though they will negotiate it up you will still get what you want for a reasonable price.

Pools - there are 3 pools for everyone and one restricted for Royal Savoy guests. The pools are freezing cold all day and therefore rather empty (take a lilo with you as there is plenty of room). I have never seen SO many topless sunbathers and g-string bikinis, so be warned if you are on a family holiday. At least 35% of the women (mostly Russian but some English also) felt it necessary to either sunbathe topless and have thong bikinis, it is slightly off putting as some walk around and some are also in the pool.

On a daily basis they encourage a water aerobics class, however it is more like people messing around in the pool then real Aerobics, the music is 90's chart music and whilst they flail around they shout and whoop with joy! So dont sit near them as it is a bit ridiculous and not really a work out of any sort.

The Sharm airport is rather light on shops and the prices are not that low so it may be worthwhile buying your items from Gatwick.

The holiday was amazing and we enjoyed every moment of it and we spent in total around £1000 each, it was great value for money and a relaxing one week break. I would return there and also recommend this to others. I would say that you should stay in the Royal Savoy as it can get a bit busy and loud by the other pools.

hope this is of help

“Let Down by the Food and Beverage”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

My Family and I enjoyed a relaxing time at this hotel. The place is spotless and impressive ,but let down by the staffs execution .The management admitted that the costal hotel market is ultra competitive and staff come and go .The staff don't know how to make an acholic drink and never drink and test them.(At nearly 10 euros a throw they ought to)
The food is the same .It feels like a rip off ,although I believe they just dont have ability at managemement.Your not looked after.I have never seen so muuch food and beverage thrown away .What a waste .Training is ongoing but never lasts.I am not saying its horrible but everything is with chips .Fish can be cold but not fresh.During peak times you have to wait 30 min for a table .Other holiday makers were of the same opinion. The large buffet breakfast hall is overun with guests and disorganised staff. We ate out most of the time in Old Sharm Market which was fantastic.Go Bed and Breakfast if you must.We would not revist this hotel on this basis.Nice people- all completly out of their depth!4 star at best.Watch for the expensive 5 min water sports 35 euro a person.
