“Great breakfasts”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

Apr 12, 2008

We stayed for a chill-out week in April. The location is ideal - just 10 minutes by taxi from the airport, although only about a quarter of a mile as the crow flies! Nevertheless there is no disturbance from the planes. Make sure you haggle with the taxi driver - he tried to charge us £25 to start with, which we got down to £10 and on our return journey, with some help from a local, we paid £6.
The facilities are good - there is a quite large beach and plenty of sunbeds there and at the pool. Our standard room had everything you needed, including bathrobes, tea and coffee etc. and an evening service when the bathroom was cleaned again, beds turned down and little chocolates left for us.
The staff were mostly very good, especially the long suffering guest relations person, who seemed to have the hardest job of the lot - plenty of people seemed to have something to complain about, including us - see below...
We went B&B, although most guests seemed to be on all inclusive terms and we felt we were made to feel second class, although our view was that as we got to select from full menus instead of a limited choice, and could buy better wine by the bottle, instead of just by the glass, ours was a better deal unless you really wanted to over indulge!
The buffet breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice aimed at the different nationalities staying there - mainly Brits and Russians. There were several restaurants of varying standards. The main one was self service buffet style and felt a bit like a feeeding station rather than a dining expereince in the evenings. The a la carte restaurants were better, especially the Italian one, but for all these you needed to book. Bookings were only taken between 1pm and 5pm, although when we first arrived , we were not told of this, and ended up having to complain to the deputy general manager before we could get a meal on the first night! They were quite rigid about the booking system and we saw people turned away from restaurants with plenty of empty tables, because they hadn't booked.
Opening times of bars was another problem for us - the beach and pool bars close at sunset (defined quite early by some of the bar staff) leaving nowhere where you could get a beer before you had showered and changed out of beach/tennis clothes
if you want to play any serious tennis this hotel is not for you - the 2 clay courts are very poorly maintained and virtually unplayable unless you just volley!
We enjoyed the stay, but if we went back to Sharm would probably try a different hotel.

“Fantastic Hotel, we loved it”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

We stayed at the Savoy (Royal Savoy) a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children and I was especially concerned about the reviews on trip advisor. We were there for 2 weeks and loved it. Beautiful hotel, lovely grounds, fantastic people who can’t do enough for you. Staying in the Royal Savoy means you have some lovely benefits:-

·Royal Savoy Lounge
This is a dedicated lounge for RS guests only, you can eat your breakfast and have fresh omelettes, and the usual items

Canapes at lunch time, afternoon/evening

No children after 6pm are allowed in the lounge area

·Royal Savoy Swimming Pools
2 pools, 1 childrens and 1 for other guests, not very large but more than adequate.
Watch out for other guests coming in as that happened a lot and you have to tell the staff who then point out that it’s private

·Cakes delivered to your room every afternoon, as well as ‘Turn down service’ where they leave a chocolate on your pillow which is a nice touch

Restaurants

·Priority booking – you have to book a table for the restaurants and you can book it with the main Royal Savoy Reception on the morning, other guests have to queue up at 1pm to book their table for the evening

·The Main Tirana is buffet style is fine
·The Rosemarino is the Italian and is the best one, good choice of food, excellent quality
·Morgana is great for lunch, freshly cooked Pizzas (not on the menu) but they will cook them for you, no problem, they are quite large so don’t ask for too many.

S Class

We were all inclusive which is ‘S ‘Class so you go to any of the restaurants and there is a specific ‘S’ class menu which is very good. Take a look at the drinks menu for ‘S’ class as well which is also good. If you want other drinks you can have them but you will be charged for them.

Bedrooms

The rooms are very nice but not quite as good as maybe they could be, nothing wrong with them but you may expect something a bit more with staying in the Royal Savoy’. The bedlinen is changed every day, cleaned well and lovely friendly staff. Tea and coffee making facilities in your room although our tea bags never got replenishes so we had to keep on asking for them. Also the shampoo / shower gel doesdoesn’t automatically get replenished, so again ask for it.

Would we go back, yes, definitely.

“i 100 percent recommend this hotel”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

i just returned from this hotel and it was my 2nd time in sharm.i normally stay at the hilton resort but i am very glad that i choose the savoy.

The hotel is situated close to naama bay and the airport and is in a good location. This hotel has everything and you need not leave the resort. It has several restaurants a 3 pools all of which are beautiful and a beach.

The hotel rooms are cleaned twice a day, very polite staff and thete is notthing that they would not do for you.The staff are very accomodating, room service is very nice and the hotel on the whole is excellent

Highlights have to be the nightclub on the resort, all ages of people and each night has a different theme.Music was good club decor is egyptian themed.

There is always stuff to do at this hotel thats what makes it enjoyable.Free shuttle bus to naama bay, restaurants, and a spa.I had a massage and a chakuzi and it was very very nice.If you are all inclusive this is free.

On this note i would advise people to take the bed and breakfast option and if you want to upgrade to all inclusive when you are there it is 30 english pounds a day.The food is nice but not alot of selection.the spirits that you get in the all inclusivce option are egytian spirits but you will only be able to tell the difference if you are a real drinker. You have to pay extra for brands such as courvossier or martell.

On the beach there is always volleyball, netball, watersports. If you are a diver you will be in paradise. There is a kids club and they show movies for kids and play games there is ALWAYS entertainment.

Overall on a scale of 1 to 10 i would rate this hotel a 8 out of 10.Sometimes the service can be slow but they are very apologetic so i cannot fault them.I would strongly recommend this hotel as i went to view some of the rest that i was interested before i left engand and i will say that what you see in the brochures is NOT what you get so be cautious.

Book the savoy...its the best experience i have had and it was all under one roof...where else can you find a hotel withe evrything and you have no need to leave the resort.

“Excellent Service at the Savoy.”

My wife and I stayed here fro 9th to 16th of March 2008. We were all inclusive or S Class. With flights from Manchester and transfers it cost £1,500 for the two of us so it is not cheap. However we considered it good value considering what exceptional treatment we received. All staff are very friendly and helpfull. Tipping is not demanded but it certainly helps them and they reward you with great service. We stayed in a garden view room, and this is exactly what it says, but you mainly get a view of the block in front of your own. This is not a problem as we knew about it before. If I go again I would book a Pool/Sea view room

Only ate in the Buffet restaurant TIRANA on the first evening and for breakfast and it was quite good. Every other night we ate in the A La Carte restaurants, all of which are excellent. Rosmarino Italian was our favourite. Bookings for these are not a problem. The hotel was full to capacity but we got what we wanted each day. Food was always excellent.

Safari bar was our favourite place for a drink in the evenings with live music each night. My favourite tipple Cognac or Brandy though was not included in the All inclusive.

Each guest can have 7 items of laundry cleaned for free per week. If I had known we would not have taken as many shirts etc. The free massages were great as was the free Glass bottom boat trip.

My only previous stay in Sharm El Sheikh was at the CORAL SEA RESORT. that hotel is nowhere near as good as this hotel.

Savoy Air Con is great. Room was great, with free mini bar filled once only. It lasted us well. Tea and coffee facilities in room.

I would go back again for sure.

“Fantasic time”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

For one week 1/2 board in the Savoy cost £480. Great value for money, and had a great holiday relaxing in the sun.
If you think you are going to have the same standard of food, room or service as the Savoy in London - think again we are in Egypt.

Best ponits.
Great bar down in reception area Safari bar and amazing terrance where they show English movies every night - really romantic, so laid back if you manage to get a sofa all to yourself.

Bedrooms -
Standard bedrooms are OK, clean and big, but not luxury. If you upgrade to the Royal Savoy there is a very big difference,.

SPA
Not great at all - use the hotel spa hotel 5 min walk down the road for treatments only.
Booking system they use stresses you out. Very over priced as well. OK but not "the SPA EXPERIENCE" you would expect.

Food.
We were 1/2 board, and the breakfast was great for me. Loads of fruit and good choice.
You get fed up of the evening buffet - but alway plenty food, hot and tastey - but it is a buffet, so dont expect wonders.
Loads of other restaurant to choice from which we ended up eating in most night - but for people on a budget they are expensive.

The drink -/ wine is very very expensive £12 brandy and cheepest French wine was £60 a bottle for something that cost £6.99 in UK shop. Thanks to this website someone had mentioned this so we brought our own duty free out. Made friends with a waiter and we drank our own wine at dinner. Bring a corksrew with you.

Beach
Beach boys great, always got a sunbed on beach, but I used the towel boys to locate them for me and tiped them a pound everyday. - always help full.

Service
I had excellent service, very friendly people, but I was tipping which helps and I made friends with a few which helps and brings out the best in them

Swim miming and Snorkeling
amazing reef off the beach - best variety I have seen
Beach good - but no good for young children because it goes straight into coral

Areas were there is poor service
Reception - as useful as a chocolate screw driver - drive you mad and really slow
Safari bar - really really slow with getting drinks out
Allot of Russians on all inclusive deals that are pushy, but this is throughout Egypt now.

All in all great hotel for £460 1/2 board for the week, just tried to book again for March 2008 - Easter - but there is building works next door - building a hotel - so not a good idea.

The only three hotels that are worth booking in this area are
Savoy or Royal Savoy
Ritz Carlton
4 Season
These three hotels are 5 star delux class - as good as you will get in this area.

As far as I can see in Egypt - all hotels seem to call themselves 5 star - and this is very scary
