My partner and I stayed at this hotel a few years back and we loved it. The service was amazing, it may be because we went out of season and it was a little quieter.
I do agree there were a few Russians there, but it is a great place to mix with other cultures and try new things.
The hotel has everything you could want and if it's not there they will arrange it for you.
the staff were amazing and honest.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and we are planning to go again.

“Russian Revolt...ing”

Me, my partner and friends stayed at this hotel for a week in Oct/Nov 07.

Lots of Russians who are rude beyond description!

The headline of the holiday has to be the dining experience which was utter chaos and a battle of mind games with the hundreds of Russians. There was at least one hilarious incident each visit, including the aggresive sandwich maker who guarded his area with sharperned tongues and an obsessive approach to the way a sandwhich was prepared, God help anybody to approach his little butty station when he wasn't there, be warned and sit close by for the fun and whatever you don't ask for mayo after the filling has been put in.

The Pizza queue will send you back to cold war bread queues but persevere as the rest of the food is very basic! There are themed food nights but also a nighlty 'British' section, stay away from the fight for anaemic, limp, very un-British chips.

The staff were mostly friendly, Mohammed in the main bar, after regular small tips, brought our drinks before we had finished the last...always good.

The hotel was very clean and the pool area was very nice, the entertainment team (from Russia and Italy) will drive you mad though, there will be several attempts each day you are there to get you to play water polo, water aerobics etc.

The Red Sea made up for any of the above, the snorkelling at the hotel's beach was absolutely fantastic. A boat trip to Ras Mohammed (including snorkelling) was well worth the tenner it cost.

For what I paid I got what I expected, if you're going to Egypt for sun and sea it's great, if your going for a fine dining experience give it a wide berth.

“Back in the USSR....”

Tropicana Grand Oasis Resort

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Tropicana Grand Oasis for the first two weeks of October 2007 and had a great time.

The biggest problem is not the hotel or staff, but the guests. The proportion of guests seemed to be 80% Russian, 15% Italian, 3% British, 2% Other. I'm all for mixing with other nationalities on Holiday, but there were just too many Russians, many of whom are quite rude towards the staff and other guests (pushing in ques at meal times was a favorite).

The pool area is really nice.

The beach is terraced and only good for the snorkelling, which is brilliant. We went on the red sea cruise which was meant to have some of the best snorkelling in the area. All it did was make us realise how good it was at our beach, although it was a good trip none-the-less.

The food is quite good, but being all inclusive, it's never going to win any awards. There are three a la cart restaurants that you can eat at. You need to book and can eat at them every night if you like. We only ate at the italian which was nice.

The service is good on the whole, but seemed to be a bit 'all or nothing'. By this I mean you were either waiting ages for a drink, or being bombarded with drinks you didn't really want (lobby bar).

The pool bar staff were great. Only downside of drinking there was having to endure the 'entertainment' which would probably be great if you were Russian....

We were with Thomson and went on the Stars and Dinner trip, Quad Bikes and red Sea Cruise. All were really good and recommended.

The weather was perfect, 28 to 34 degrees in the day.

Naama Bay is a good night out. We went a few times and ate out very cheaply. £5 for fillet steak! £4-5 each way for taxis, but there is a free bus from the hotel you can book.

Would recommed this hotel, but wouldn't go back. The world is too big to go the same place every year.

“Not a hotel for the British! Not recommended”

Tropicana Grand Oasis Resort

My boyfriend and i stayed at the TGO for a week in Early October 2007 and i have to be honest, we did not enjoy the stay at all. I really would not recommend this hotel - esp if you are British. Without giving you a blow by blow account of the problems we encounter, i will try and summarise them for you. 1) We were one of only four British couple we came across all week. The rest were all Italian or Russian. While i have nothing personally against the these nationalities, i did not really enjoyed being totally outnumbered by them, found their table manners awful (they would go and get three plates of food piled high during meal time and then only eat half and leave it all over the table!) and the men (not to mention numerous women) in thongs got a little repetitive after a while! 2) The reception staff are rude and unhelpful. On our first day, we had problems with outrsafe and it took 4 phone calls and two hours to get someone to us. We also bought a diving video which was left at reception and when we went to collect it we were told it wasn't there when they didn't look. That was just two incidents - really, they are awful 3) The water is yellow - i stayed at the Hilton sharks bay last year and the water was not yellow so its not something that occurs in every hotel 4)The food is abysmal - really, its gross! I lived off pasta and bread the whole time. Plus the wine is vile. 5) the hotel is generally very run down - i guess you could argue it is 3 star standard but we didn't like it, and finally 6) you get hassled all the time by the pool and beach to buy massages, water sports, join in with aerobics etc. They just don't go away and its all day every day. Plus, they play chavvy dance music by the pool all day and night which is very annoying. So, in total i would not recommend this hotel, esp is you are British. Friends stayed at the Four Seasons which i would highly recommend (if you can afford it - its really is unadulterated luxury), my sister stayed at the Iberotel palace for her honeymoon which she said was brilliant and even the hilton sharks bay is way better. We tried to move on the second day but every where was full up - thats how much we disliked it. I really would not recommend this hotel at all.

“Loved it!”

Tropicana Grand Oasis Resort

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Tropicana Grand Oasis, the hotel was great. We spent 2 whole weeks relaxing by the pool. The staff are really helpful and cant do enough for you, we did tip them little and often but they really dont expect tips. We always got a sun lounger and sun shade when we were round the pool and the pool boys are really helpful and if you find a place where you want to lay on your lounger they will move everything around so you can lay there. Although the entertainment team is mostly aimed at the Itailians and Russians, we never felt left out and they were always coming to see us and having a chat making sure that we were ok. The food was ok, im really picky with what i eat but i managed to find something every meal time.
We went on the Aquascope Submarine which is advertised in the hotel Lobby, this was £25 per person. It sounds expensive but it was well worth the money.
The rooms are cleaned daily, with new towels everyday too - they even changed the shower curtain every 2 days!!!! All the maids are men but dont let this put you off, they are really friendly.
We didnt really spend much time on the beach as it was really really hot down there, we did pop down to the jety on a few occasions though to take pictures of the fish. It was amazing!!!! and suggest going down there to look at the fish.

All in all the holiday was excellent and i am returning next year.
