Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Tropicana Grand Oasis for the first two weeks of October 2007 and had a great time.
The biggest problem is not the hotel or staff, but the guests. The proportion of guests seemed to be 80% Russian, 15% Italian, 3% British, 2% Other. I'm all for mixing with other nationalities on Holiday, but there were just too many Russians, many of whom are quite rude towards the staff and other guests (pushing in ques at meal times was a favorite).
The pool area is really nice.
The beach is terraced and only good for the snorkelling, which is brilliant. We went on the red sea cruise which was meant to have some of the best snorkelling in the area. All it did was make us realise how good it was at our beach, although it was a good trip none-the-less.
The food is quite good, but being all inclusive, it's never going to win any awards. There are three a la cart restaurants that you can eat at. You need to book and can eat at them every night if you like. We only ate at the italian which was nice.
The service is good on the whole, but seemed to be a bit 'all or nothing'. By this I mean you were either waiting ages for a drink, or being bombarded with drinks you didn't really want (lobby bar).
The pool bar staff were great. Only downside of drinking there was having to endure the 'entertainment' which would probably be great if you were Russian....
We were with Thomson and went on the Stars and Dinner trip, Quad Bikes and red Sea Cruise. All were really good and recommended.
The weather was perfect, 28 to 34 degrees in the day.
Naama Bay is a good night out. We went a few times and ate out very cheaply. £5 for fillet steak! £4-5 each way for taxis, but there is a free bus from the hotel you can book.
Would recommed this hotel, but wouldn't go back. The world is too big to go the same place every year.
