“relaxing holiday but no bag!!”

Booked this holiday and was looking forward to going back again as we enjoyed it the second time:

Arrival
Usual scrum at the airport but if you take some US dollars with you you don't have to queue to buy a visa from the Travco desk just go to the left hand side of this to a booth where you can get a visa for $15 and no queue no problem and if you contact the hotel prior they will send a taxi for you (one of their own) to take you to the hotel direct takes about 10 minutes and you don't tour the other hotels first. Checkin painless and you can be in room or at the bar generally some time before the rest arrive, but as this is the last pick up when going home use the thomsons coach on the way back.

Rooms
As ever very clean and remain so the whole time of your stay with various towel art day by day

Food
Various choices depends what you like resturaunt busy about 8-8.30 but should be better when the annex opens in June 08 but the staff work hard and also Andy the resturaunt manager is always on hand to help and yes I did have an experiance of the Russian guests at the hotel who seem to dump all sorts of food on the same plate never mind if other people are waiting or not.

Entertainment
During the day Tony.Adam,Bakar and Salamer did their best in the 40 degree heat to organise activities such as aerobics, volleyball, dance class as well The entertainment in the evening could not comment on as I have most nights to be in bed earley to get up for the diving the next morning which in the red sea is fantastic. The on site dive operation is very good and they do a range of trips even to Dahab and I do recommend the Thistlgorm if you like getting out of bed early very early

Bar Staff
Are very good ,patient (they have to be) and found nothing was too much trouble for them. The Sunset Bar generally is nice and quite and Mohammed does very good shisha's down there and the sunset is something to see if you can

Overall
Very well run hotel clean and tidy all round the resort and as we were their at half term a bit busy but should be ok as I have said when the extra bit opens it will make a difference and also a couple the the girls in our party went up to Cairo stayed overnight in Hilton Ramsess which the hotel helped with e.g. transport and guide, last whent you get to the hotel reception look at the poster for the water park (staying at the Hilton you can go there free ) all you pay for is transport in hotel mini bus very nice addition if you have some kids 9-49. Hope to be back soon.

“just as good 2nd time!”

Hilton Sharks Bay Resort

We have just returned from the Hilton Sharks Bay and had a fantastic time. We were a little concerned this time as we were taking our 9 month old grandaughter with us. She luckily was still on tinned milk and food so we had no worries about her getting a tummy upset. All the staff there are fantastic, The waiters made such a fuss of her, she was always being picked up and played with, she loved it and it gave her mum some peace during meals!
As it was our second visit we e-mailed the hotel prior to our arrival with requests for ground floor rooms adjoining etc and even though the hotel was full, our requests were met.
The grounds and hotel are lovely and clean and the towel art is always a pleasure to find on returning to your room at the end of the day.
There are fantastic facilities for older children, 2 upwards. There is a lovely shallow edge pool with slides, a very well equiped playground and childrens club too.
There are a few points which need addressing in future, they should have baby changing facilities in the main dining room and by the bars, there is only one near the pool with this facility and it can be very inconvenient at times. Also there are some areas which can only be accessed via steps which is tiresome with a pushchair.
We had a very healthy holiday with no tummy troubles but we always tried to eat early when the food had not been sitting on the buffet, The drinks seemed a little weak but they will top up the alcohol if you ask nicely!
The only downer about the whole holiday is that unfortunately the hotel seems to have been discovered by extremely rude russians. They push in front of you at the buffet counter and start opening pots and trays and grunt at the chefs while pointing to what they want. I never heard one say please or thank you the whole time I was there. The British people are so popular with the Egyptians, because we are well mannered, appreciate good service and give the occasional tip which is not expected but greatly appreciated.
The toilets in the airport on arrival and departure are a nightmare, so take my advice and dont use them unless you are desperate or have a strong stomach as the plumbing gets blocked easily with nasty results.

“Next to a building site”

We stayed there last year as soon as we arived we were asked to upgrade as the room we had allocated was to small. This seems to be the norm.

Although we found the facilities to be okay, it was spoilt by the constant noise of the building site next door and I mean next door. It was impossible to relax on the beach as there was a constant drilling noise for about 6 hrs per day. There was no mention of this in the brouchure or reviews.

Apart from the noise it was okay

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The noise and asking us to upgrade with an extra cost really spoiled the holiday staff were fine and the hotel was very clean and tidy
    • Disliked — noise noise

“Fabulous hotel”

My fiancee and I stayed at the Hilton Sharks Bay as a getaway break prior to our wedding and we had an amazing time.

The hotel was brilliant, with big, clean rooms and great facilities.
The buffet was very good, with plenty of fresh produce and with wonderful themed nights (the Egyptian one was the best). The a la carte restaurant was very good, with great service and a nice variety of dishes.

The beach was small and there's no sand but the reef was incredible. We saw loads of different types of fish, and the man who runs the diving trips spent some time explaining what each of the fish were and a bit about them.

All in all a fantastic hotel on an amazing reef with great staff. As a piece of advice, it's only 5 minutes drive from the airport, so if you're travelling with a group, save your money on the resort transfer.

The flights on Monarch where awful but thats thier faukt not the hotels however I would not fly again with them. This hotel is just ok ! the pools are nice but very very cold the grounds are nice. The beach is not very nice but i only went to snorkle so that did not bother me to much but it may to others. The room was nice but a bit dated again not that fussed as long as cleaned and it was. The hotel itself I found to be clean. The food was the BIG let down i didnt eat for the last 2 days as i had a bad tummy so did my parnter and yes we used anti bac hand wash all the time so it must have been the food or drink. The food is bland oftern not hot enough there was a poor selection of burgers and chips at dinner times ! my goodness they dont have anything that is slighly traditional at all i found this dissapointing i dont go on holiday to have burgers but as a last resort they where the best tasting things out of everything we had just all bland ! cant wait for my curry tonight. We got back yesterday. The staff are so nice i did not feel i had to tip them but i did and it did not seem to get my better service than anyone else. The guys in the chillout bar are great. The reson i came to this hotel was the reef you will not be dissapointed we saw a giant moray in 2ft of water i will get photos posted. We saw rays, pipe fish trumpet fish, nepolean fish, trigger fiah to name a few it was fantastic. The entertainment was quite good at night times but only lasted an hour they do need more. They had shows singers etc. The day time staff where new and i dont think they did enough during the day to keep you busy. There is a kids pool so why people keep bringing crying kids round the quiet adults pool was very annoying ! I would not go back to this hotel unless they sorted the food and the entertianment out. If you want to do nothing and are not a fussy eater you will be ok. I think for the money it wasnt bad. We went to the sunrise makadi bay in hurgarda and it knocked the socks off the hilton food wise for the same price.
Nama Bay is a strange place and worth a look go later on about 8ish you wont get much hassle we only go asked into 2 bars but we did get asked about 10 times if we wanted a taxi. Also its not cheap camel bar 2 bottles of sakara beer worked out at £4.50 english as did most places. Go up to the bar where they have the band and whirlin dirvish its fab but again expensive 3 beers £10.00 but the entertainment was brill. Check prices in the resturants as they do add tax and service charges of up to 20% so be warned. The waterpark for hilton guests is free !. If you want any more info email me. We emailed the hilton to say it was our anniversary and we did get a nice quiet room along with a bottle of wine (not nice was any of the wine) all in all a relaxing atay with the best snorkling but wont go back due to the poor food. Oh be aware if you go on the bedouin trip take small money in EGP for the poor kids who look after your camel they beg at you all the time and this did taint what was a nice night.
